3rd Kyu Techniques & Test Requirements Part 4

Grateful thanks to Yamada Shihan, his Uke (Donavan Sensei?) and AkikaiAikido for posting these videos. I only started Aikido in the last few months at a relatively advanced age. I have no previous martial arts experience and it feels very unfamiliar. But I love the ethos of Aikido (and Aikikai in particular) and the grace, subtletly and effectiveness of it when practised by masters such as in these videos is something I would aspire to.

To Cenot4ph,

I think in Aikido traditional there are no 10th to 7th kyu, only 6th to 1th kyu then after that you go to your first Shondan rank but of course you have to take the examination first. :)

I think when someone started to study Aikido you will be initially given a rank as 6th kyu.

@adwana nope, you have to past the exam for that rank as well, and in dojos which take it seriously, you prepare for about a year to be allowed to take the exam for 6th kyu...

So how long does it generally take to get from 10 to 3th Kyu?

It was in Sensei Yamada's New York Aikikai back in the 1970s that I had to good fortune to be present in the seminar and to see the demonstration given by Kisshomaru Uyeshiba. I also had a chance to meet and have my photo taken with "the muggers' mugger", a short and very old man who resembled O' Sensei and who would bring to the police station people who tried to mug him.

This is the best video that i've ever seen about Aikido explications. Thanks for it. My 3rd kyu test will come in April or May, after the class of Tamura shihan and Yamada shihan in Madrid (3-4-5 Apr.), and this video has helped me very much. Thanks you!! ;)
