  • Brooks and Dunn did a much better version.........

  • guess Neil oughta know after 2 wives & a 3rd coming up.... :)

  • THIS IS SUCH A BEAUTIFULLY SUNG SONG. MY MUM HAS SPOKEN IT FOR MANY YEARS AND HAS OFTEN WONDERED WHY NEIL NEVER SINGS IT ANYMORE. WE SEEN HIM PLAY IN DUBLIN'S AVIVA STADIUM ON 25TH JUNE AND HE WAS JUST SIMPLY FANTASTIC FOR A 70 YEAR OLD MAN HE IS A LEGEND AND A TRUE SHOWMAN. HE GAVE ME GOOSEBUMPS WITH THE STUNNING SONGS HE PLAYED AND HOW HE SET OFF SOME LOCKED AWAY EMOTIONS FROM MY CHILDHOOD. I GREW UP LISTENING TO HIM EVERYDA! IT WAS A VERY SPECIAL TIME TO ACTUALLY SEE HIM PLAY LIVE. LEGEND!!

  • This is sooo true , it's all because of "PRIDE" and the children, kis loose everything, a Mom, A Dad ,... and a home. How veryy very SAD...

  • A hidden gem tucked away at the end of Stones, this poignant and beautiful song by the delightful Roger Miller and sung so sensitively by Neil. Beautiful orchestration. My late father was a big Neil fan and at nearly 50 it moves me to tears while remembering the "What is your fave Diamond song?" debates we used to have!

  • @1crofters I hear that. And I have to say it's tough, but Stones is me fav. Neil album, Cheers.

    D~

  • Beautiful words! So true!

  • My favorite Neil song .. I remember hearing this as a little kid. My dad would listen this on vinyl while drinking a Coors and humming along.

  • Leave it to Neil Diamond to do the perfect version of this song:) Absolutely perfect.

  • Raul Malo's AFTER HOURS CD has the best rendition!!

  • I agree Tap root Manuscript is his best endevuour to this date!

  • This, along with "Taproot Manuscript", is one of his best albums. But, don't forget, he's been a songwriter for many years - he wrote the best tune for Jay and the

Americans - "Sunday and Me". Don't forget all of his '60;s stuff..."Shiloh" etc. Whatcha gonna do next Mr. D?

  • Roger Miller was a pure genius. I love his version and Neil did it complete justice.

  • i thought to myself I dont remember this one? then after 1 second it was in my head after about 35 yrs since last hearing it! and i know all the words . . . . beautiful, love listening to neil x

  • de que año,son estas canciones maravillosas,de este gran IDOLO

  • Lovely, melancholy song.

  • it was a good memories for me

  • Gotta love Roger Miller songs.

  • @KaiBailey Absolutely, and I do love Roger's version of his own song too,but Neil Diamond does do it justice, even more than both Reba McEntire and Brooks And Dunn did several years later.

  • Definetly one of Neal's very best.....

  • I really like both but Tap is also very good. The music flows and true life. His voice is strong, one just doesn't get tired of listening to his old music, which is much better than his music of today.

  • I'm not sure which of his albums was best -- Stones or Moods ??

  • No question 'Tap Root Manuscript'! ! !

  • I agree with Taproot Manuscript as his best album, but it's a tough call.

  • In my humble opinion followed closely by the original Hot August Night!

  • @pie0my My vote is for Stones. But ya, it's close.

    D~

  • @MCRenNo1 Stones was great because of the homage he paid to his other fellow songwriters and even peers to an extent.

  • Very nice version.

  • This is the best version of this song of all the versions I have heard..

  • @39metro That's the dumbest thing I have read all day.

  • @theez14 Guess you don't read much then.

  • One of his best. I could listen over and over

  • says so much......

  • Thanks for posting this. I have another version of this by the same artist but in a completely different key. This one is the one I remember as a kid - I was starting to wonder if I'd imagined it - must be 30 years since I last heard this.

  • Totally agree. I grew up with this on vinyl. I still have it and it's a great record. Thanke for the post =)

  • Lovely song done so well by Neil. Thanks for posting.
