Vintage Big Band!!!!! What a beautiful tune! I love the fast, energetic beat. I can imagine dancing to this song ("Skyliner" - Charlie Barnet).
To: MoleDFigg post: Thanks for sharing your memories of those days back in the WWII era.
Funny how I came to love The Big Band sound: it was when the haunting music played in the background of the movie, The Shining, with Jack Nicholson. Later, in the 1990s, I began listening to AM 880 KIXI (Seattle) and now online with that same radio station.
Many thanks!! This was playing on the P.A. system around the perimeter of the U.S.A.F. airbase near where I was evacuated from London in WWII, just as the first B.17's arrived.
We kids had not seen those beautiful silver birds, or heard this music before.
In my 80th. year, I cannot separate that sound from the image of the arrival of the U.S.A.F.
That is correct. Dodo Marmarosa is the pianist on the recording. This sounds like a post-war mono recording, with the drums using brushes as opposed to the original.
wow! I love the Jazz and swing, jajaja I have this song in another version but is great, with no doubts charlie barnet was a grear musician! Greetings from Mexico!
Yeah, i love this tune too. You're right, he is almost forgotten completely, i only heard about him from reading Gunther Schuller's book "The Swing Era". Great stuff.

@MoleDFigg - found the release date for this to be 1944 ! I am playlisting each of the past 100 years of music and 1950-1975 each play for an hour.
Artists like CB each have their own playlist as well, over 230 of them !
My channel is your portal to the beautiful music of any year you choose . . . . .

Charlie looks like a guy you can depend on, you know, a nice type of guy.

There used to be a video up at You Tube of Barnet doing "Skyliner" from a movie. Does anyone know if it's still around?

Thanks --- my favorite Barnet tune. He is underrated and forgotten as a big band.
