this car does not need to look good as their engineering is perfect, we can say without equivocation that is one of the best 4x4 in the world, unlike other expensive and impractical 4x4 .. this car is an excellent machine.

haha...the Niva made it all look easy! It makes sense though...that's how all the early 4X4's were back in the day - simple, tough, and built like a 4X4 should be built. The IHC Scouts...the early Ford Broncos even...and of course, the Jeep from WWII. The Niva was the only one that stuck to that design philosphy. Even the Land Cruisers are no longer solid front axle, and they're so damned expensive. No, you gotta love the Nivas. They just do what they were designed to do, and they do it so well.

@TheVeneth I mean ugly, not very nice aesthetics, the vehicle is practical and is above the other 4x4 and being much cheaper. the car is rustic, but very good, here in Colombia we have two on the farm and performs well in difficult terrain. only an opinion, I think it's a car to work.

@ThatHoodNiggaBrik yes i agree with you that any lada is a tonn of separate bolts, exept of Niva, this car is exellent for dirt, i know this cause im owner of one of them. its not expensive, you can fix it in field, niva is very strong (when suzuki or landrover are broken niva is still a badass) its like Russian weapon deadly and reliable.

...to add: also, Lada always starts on winter like from under a palm tree. Brushed windows of snow and drove through a one meter height snow wall done by tractor.

Didn't need to apply central diff lock. I use it only when it seems I am going to get stuck. :)

I think it's great that everyone have comments. Because it's the truth that different wehicles are good in different conditions. Niva does especially good work in places there there is a need of manouvrability, in the forest terrain definetlty and also mountains. Disvantage is that it has non-efficent engine and some might argue if petrolium or diesel is the best.

So -it's 100 % different to drive on a desert than in a forest. Niva is made for forest conditions. As an officer I know that in our conditions in Finland you cannot manouvre with Abrams tank - you need a Leopard ;=)

Took my Niva back to UK three times from Bulgaria!

Stopped once by the German motorway police! In a carpark! they had seen me travelling faster than they believed a LADA could (within the speed limit of course) 30 minute inspection from two very impressed Germans!

In UK I was told you could not get them there as they did not conform to EEC spec! I informed the "in the trade" person that they were but in ripoff UK, he probably couldnt make enough profit being the true reason!

i got a niva,i live in wales,i took it up a mountain and let a youth have a go - he thrashed it & broke the drive shaft while we were stuck in a crater...we tried to get to it in a land rover and failed - the landy could'nt get to where we took the niva..we tried a range rover ..again it failed...we finaly got hold of a mitsubishi and with some tricky moments eventually got to the niva and towed it back down the mountain - i know from this experience the lada niva can go places other 4x4's cant

oil consumption is 10 times normal, and i once rolled over with that box of yours that you call niva. fuck it. my freelander is 3 and smth years old, drives like new, have done 70k km no problems at all(russian shit did no more than 30k), fuel consumption is great on highway and town, and i can take it whenever to country side and get there where the niva couldn't, because it broke 500m back, had smth to do with the injector(or one of the many other problems it has)

The Niva is not so heavy as the UAZ and has a higher speed going up there. Take a wrong gear and you will fail also with the best car.
