I agree with you on the kid getting shot except that cops are not allowed to shoot for a leg.... They are trained to shoot to kill and can get suspended with out pay for a couple months or even fired because even if they go down, the person could still shoot making it a danger to those around him

I highly doubt any city is paying enough tax dollars to train cops how to be super soldiers. Further, how exactly would shooting him in the leg be better? I think cops are trained to shoot to kill in situations like this for their safety and that of others, so ya know, they did what they do best and I agree with their decision to be honest. If it had been a real gun, and they hadn't been shooting to kill, he could've wounded loads of people before the police could neutralise the threat!

No, because when you start adding circumstances such as suspect's age to the equation that adds to the time it takes for police to formulate a solution, adding to the probability that the armed person may harm themselves or someone else. The student was warned repeatedly, and failed to follow instructions. The police have no idea of the mindset of the student or lethality of the gun. A simple shot in the leg may have resulted in him shooting blindly and injuring many.
