  • Sooooo much better than Schoenberg! XD

  • @MrTangezz i take it you did music aswell :P oh and i agree, that piece made most of my class want to die

  • Oh good old music GCSE days (even though it was a few months ago)...

Some may call me crazy, but after Peripetie (I know.. LOL), this was my favourite piece.

  • @jrdennis95 Nope I don't, I call you a genius! That was my favourite piece too! This was tied for first place with it though ;)

  • @StanleyKSCBP Thank you! Someone who appreciates fine composing :D Yeah, I would say this is tied. They are pretty great pieces. Now I really miss learning about them in GCSE.

  • @jrdennis95 i love peripetie! well, i love the idea of expressionism. this is much easier on the ears though (;

  • this is really good but if were talking about the gcse stuff here, raindrop has my number one

  • Loving how most of the comments are about GCSE... Although admittedly, this one does kinda make up for the Peripetie - which needs burning, in my opinion...

  • Love the video

  • Oh god, that bass <3 I think this is one of my favourites on the GCSE syllabus, but I'm afraid will always be Raindrop by Chopin!

  • This is the best song in GCSE -_-

  • @MrFrenziedMonkey Dunno I quite like Moby :)

  • @harrybjackson I also quite like that, but this is the best :P

  • Outsanding. Breathtaking. I would loooooooove to perform this.

  • wow, after hearing THIS i don't want to listen to the Verdejo version ever again, that sounds just ... dead. LOVE THIS ! wish you'd been more generous with the length of the clip, lol

  • Looked at it today in music and I put and note in my journal MUST BUY THIS SONG!

  • Awesome!!

  • So glad I'm studying this for GCSE! What a song!

  • guys.... please, i'm doing GCSE music too, but i'm in year ten and have learnt the whole course this year.... i don't mean to brag, but just try to enjoy the sheer beauty of this piece? I, personaly, think that it is absolutely amazing, and that attitude can really help people who don't like it as much as me :) good luck tomorrow anyway :D

  • Like if your going to fail this music exam tomorrow D:

  • @XXminimeenaXX good luck :)

  • @tallettm Cheers:) have you got the exam??

  • @tallettm Ahh well your lucky! I hate music well with the teacher that I have got haha!!

  • rag desh > counter point > peripetie

    cool shizz > .....? > noise.

  • I did a practice section B question thing on this and fucking FAILED.

  • @just4commenting1 you really aren't the only one. is your exam tomorrow? ours is =/

  • Imagine if you were just watching this 'cause you liked it... the comments would make so much sense...

  • tuesday is gonna be scary...

  • despise this piece of music but if this or Rag Desh came up on the essay question, I'd do this one hands down

  • @lizwood1995 wot about Peripetie? LOL

  • @square13girl I hate that song hahaa :D

  • Well, atleast if it's a section B, there's not much to say so it'll be easy to get all of the marks :L

  • @sam123iggle I hope it's not section B, that'd be so hard :( I really want Moby on section B

  • YOU GUYS ARE ALL INCREDIBLE

  • Atleast its better than peripitie.

  • my favourite piece from GCSE music by far

  • Would have been nice to see what was going on

  • @fishinglegend15 Same here :S

  • I could listen to this all night... but then relised that ,unfortunately, I have to sleep =(.

Music GCSE in 8 days :s

  • @fishinglegend15 8 days is a long time in revision, best thing to do is learn to play it (if you can)

  • @Killerzac We done our compositions, solo performance and group performance as a 'controlled assessment' now I'm just revising mainy for my listening exams and theory. This just happened to crop up in the revision book...luckily =)

  • @fishinglegend15 our teacher fucked up our compositions xD he didn't actually know it was supposed to be controlled conditions so we had to redo 10 hours of work twice (40 hours on composition)

  • @Killerzac *psst* i hate to break it to you but 10 hours work twice is 20 hours composition, ass hole.

  • @Killerzac *psst* i hate to break it to you but 10 hours work twice is 20 hours composition, maybe you should focus more on maths ? dirrrrrrrrrrkhead

  • @danell12345 yes but you should know that we have to submit 2 compositions

  • @fishinglegend15 good luck (y)

  • @Ch33kyMynxYaz Thanks =)

  • @nathanclaus peripetie is so painful to listen to :O i haaate it, but i love this piece so much! x

  • this is my favourite piece in gcse music so far :) looooove this piece :)

  • so glad we have this for GCSE!!

  • @nathanclaus I agree, peripite sounds like crap :S

  • @Run2theSkyline its a disgrace....how is anyone supposed to write an essay bout it in section b of the exam? sooo off putting!!

  • This is the best out of all 12 set works :P

  • sounds amazing

  • This isn't my favourite, but anything's better than rag desh

  • @hugoishuge Am I really the only person who loved Rag Desh?

  • @coast3dg3 I believe so, you must be gutted as it didn't come up :P

  • @hugoishuge That I am.

  • @coast3dg3

I liked them. I just didn't want them to come up in the exam, because I knew I'd forget which information related to which version.

  • @ThisIsNotAva I just wanted to hear rag desh to be honest. I wouldn't have cared if i got all the questions on it wrong.

  • @ThisIsNotAva rag desh is the song we did the most work on and it never came up :@ did you do jeff buckley or the handel for the essay question?

  • @JG20Productions

Ahh that sucks :/ We did a load of work on it too.

It was between Jeff Buckey and Chopin? I started both and then decided my Chopin one was better because I couldn't remember anything about harmony in Grace. How about you? :)

  • @ThisIsNotAva Oh yeh Chopin, shows how much I cared/knew about that piece aha. I did the Jeff Buckley one but also couldn't remember the tonality for it, hopefully I could get a B in the exam, and our teachers wouldn't tell us our composition and other coursework results so I have no idea what I'm gonna get!

  • @hugoishuge amazing how we all do the same thing in music/

i almost got disqualaified from music exam from almost laughing at rag desh.

  • @hugoishuge this is my favorite steve reich version ,what ones yours ? not the asian dude with the moon mask haha

  • @hugoishuge yep definately

  • Fuck you Edexcel, this gave me a headache... :/

  • Best song on GCSE music syllabus, right?

  • @katieb15559 Yes! Peripetie is definatly the worst, I can't stand that piece.

  • @katieb15559 I quite liked Grace too :)

  • @katieb15559 ummmmm...wrong! too boring. Chopin raindrop prelude is the best.

  • @TheBuddyboy15 yer :)

  • @katieb15559 are you crazy? best song on gcse music syllabus?

  • Comment removed

  • Awsome song reminds me of good times and GCSE music

  • GCSE does have the odd good set work like if you agree (:

  • You, sir, made my evening! I have shared this video on Facebook because I know many of my friends will appreciate this performance very much. Thank you!

  • @sticklebats

    a big honour!

  • GCSE music introduced me to this wonderful piece :')

  • i love this piece

  • His guitar's got no head!!

  • @ph03n1xamb1t

    ROFL

  • c'mon like no ones not here of gcse music ;)

  • i can play that bass part all the way through

  • sampled in "Little Fluffy Clouds" by The Orb

  • Fantastic performance!

  • thankyou GCSE music :D

  • This is actually brilliant mate x

  • i dont understand what exactly he is doing technically with this using the layers

    can someone please explain?!?!

  • @gorginian He recorded lots of different guitar parts (or ostinati) and gradually layering them over each other. These then gradually change over time, and they create lots of cross rhythms and diatonic harmonies.

  • @rawrdinosaur95 He uses looping methods too

  • @gorginian what do you mean? he like recorded them didnt he?

  • you must listen to Royksopp's remix of this!

  • thumbs up if you hate koko yiri

  • @fatlardwholikespie LOL we are just about to study that- it's not that bad is it?

  • Thanks for this high quality upload, I needed it for my GCSE playlist :)

  • just finished this in GCSE music... thanks AQA.... haha

  • Yay i started studying minimalism and my chums showd me this. Thumbs up!!!!!!

  • So. Repetitive.

    But it's amazing :)

I would pick this over Skye Waulking or And the Glory any day.

  • Not as bad as "And the glory of the lord" XD

  • i dont get how it's scary at all. i think it's frivolous and beautiful in a really energetic and intellectual kind of way

  • he is the only person i know to do this an pull it off he puts chuck norris to same

  • This is my favourite piece for music GCSE :D I hate Schoenburg's piece... D:

  • i lourve when the bass comes in

  • the bass is quite haunting :L

  • finally a GOOD gcse piece

  • Thumbs up to Music GCSE :)

  • aah, GCSE MUSIC!!! I'm so going to fail...

  • @xIxlovexhimx4xeverx same. But I got a shitty teacher who doesn't know how to teach anyway.

  • I always been captivated by layered music, and this is the creme of the damn crop when it comes to layers. Phase is the way

  • It's so hypnotising! I love it

  • got my mock on 5th january..bit worried :S how on earth are we supposed to remember detailed analysis' of 12 set works?!

  • @GeeBee868 How turned it out?

  • I'm having my mock in January

  • bring on my music mock tomorrow ;)

  • @albi1995 what was your essay question?

  • Ahh GCSE music how i love you Edexcel!

  • like if GCSE music sent you here :|

  • @Scorpion2oo9 Yeh everyone does it. but i dont actually mind this song/.... i like the bass

  • @classgiantbrass dont get me wrong, its probably one of the best out of them all

i just dont like GCSE Music haha

    i regret choosing it :/

  • @Scorpion2oo9 just had my gcse mock today and this was in it!

    great song like!

  • @Scorpion2oo9 definetly =D thanks to GCSE we just started studyin minimalist music and just a week back before we started i created my own so i will use it as my composition hehe.

    this guy is awesome

  • @Scorpion2oo9 this is the best song in the gcse list by far!

  • @Scorpion2oo9 it sounds nice. good coice GCSE dudes

  • @Roserade336 It's that nice when you're 14 and listening to this on repeat :/

  • Even if I thought the beginning was a bit dry, this composition is SO GRIPPING! Reich is genius.

  • i get scared when listening to this

  • @aidang623 me too actually :S

  • @aidang623

    try listening the 2. movement...

  • were lookin at this song in music,i love the bass when it comes in then phases into the song (:

  • too bad this video isn't longer, i might have bought it

  • Awesome video! Love your energy and the tone of the instruments used. Solid playing as well!

  • PLEASEEEEE I BEG YOU GUYS, CAN SOMEONE FIND ME A TAB, PREFERABLY GUITAR PRO?

  • @nafsnake for a piece this complex you will need the score, there are 12 guitar parts.

  • @liamiscooler no there is - 4 guitars playing a cannon of the 1st idea (3rd with note addition), 3 guitars playing chord progressions, 2 base guitars and 1 live guitar part FOO! u just got parred !!!

  • Hey man i really enjoyed this!

Also about to study this for music gcse!

  • Friend, its a great performance, but the piece is for electric guitars :P

If you wanna play it on acoustics, why not call it Acoustic Counterpoint?

  • No, man, the piece was written for electric and/or acoustic guitars....that way is indicated by Reich and to be choosen by the performer...

    You should buy the edition!!!!!

  • @oriasdiz to edxcell (an exam board) the peice was only written for electric and bass guitars :S sure it sounds better with acoustic guitars but origanaly it was scored for electric - also whats the instrument with no head at 0:43??

  • @Killerzac no....if you buy the original edition by Boosey & Hawkes you will see that Reich indicates electric or acousitc guitar & bass guitars, to play with tape or Ensemble.

The original recording did by Pat Metheny includes in the last movement some acoustic guitars.....but he also could do it all electric...it's just the aesthetic choice you can do....I did mine:only acoustic. In 0:43 there are still guitars and in 0:47 are the bass guitars coming

  • @oriasdiz well you know edxcell are pretty shit anyways lol but what i mean is that at 0:43 is that just an acoustic guitar with no head and a really weird body?

  • @Killerzac oh yes, is an acoustic guitar without head and without body...

  • @oriasdiz well you know edxcell are pretty shit anyways lol but what i mean is that at 0:43 is that just an acoustic guitar with no head and a really weird body? it plays the chords at 2:03

  • @DarkZekeX dude it's minimalism, you can do it however you want lmao.

  • @FullMetalAsh what does the movement the piece is associated with have to do with freedom of choice for the musician?

The guy already told me that its indicated for either kind of guitar anyway, I just think the piece sounds better with the timbre of electric guitars.

  • Well, there's only one guy there!!!!!

    Thanks a lot!

  • awesome!

  • it sounds abit like chocolate rain

  • @theguyinthefunnyhat : Don't 'dumb-down' a brilliant peice like this.

  • Listened to this in Music GCSE. My speakers don't give the base justice. But my music room does, it's what makes me love it aswell as it's mezmorizing and addictive tune.
