  • Wow, that's some heavy multitasking.

  • my macbooks, both of them, cant even watch youtube without lag. i can only hear your voice. my dell is way better.

  • parbleu, those macs!

yesterday i bought a 8-core Xeon Mac Pro with 64 gigs of Ram and a SCSI card and i cant even run Windows 3.11 on DOS 6.22 without lag.

    O.o

    -.-

can't even watch youtube without lag, lol, and we should believe this bullshit??

  • its true

  • -.-

  • my dells a year older, but it was also 500$ cheaper

  • there is a reason because MacBooks cost $499 more

  • which mac pro supports 64Gb of ram???.... lmao...get ur facts right...

  • every mac pro.

i got my fact from here:

  • sorry... w w w . mactracker . com

officialy apple suggest you not to install more than 32gb of ram, but you can intall 64 gigs.

anyway, think about windows xp that cant support more than 3.2 gigs of ram

  • if you have the 32-bit, you can install the 64-bit to get to the 32gb or more

  • Talk to a Genius in a apple store, or send an email to apple and explain, maybe they can help and fix it.

  • man, what's wrong with your cortical neurons LOL?!?

i could run 30+ linux virtual machines even on an iMac i was kidding

    mac4life

  • then your mac pro is faulty, because my macbook pro from 2007 can work fine for hd, and i have windows 3.11 in dos 7.1 in a vm, and their is no lag, the only lag you get is windows 3.11 dhcp'ing to get an ip from the vm or the router.

  • Its lagging just from that AHAHAHAHAAAAAAAAAAAAA

  • As if pc's running windows cant do that. :)

  • That's the funniest remark I've heard all week!!

  • he did mention its 21 and a half years old so thats quite impressive, i dont think an old pc can do that with the latest windows

  • ha! Im using a pc with hardware from 2006! :D

  • oh shit.. look. if ur operating system sux! the programs on it aswell will be flawed jeez.... thats alli have to say.. im not answeringto anymore comments of yours coz its a waste of time..-_-

  • U know y u need more RAM? Coz Vista is more RAM Hungry meaning that software plays an effect to hardware u dumb motherfucker!! I never said that hardware doesnt play a role in computer performance i said they work together u retard!! don't change wat i say a make it sound stupid like urself! ofcourse hardware matters but if ur OS Sux ur hardware will not hav the same effect on a solid OS dumb freak.. You obviously know notin..

  • Voiceofreason467..seriously go open a fkin IT book..

man..HARDWARE IS NOTIN WITHOUT GOOD SOFTWARE THEY WORK TOGETHER U FKIN DUMBASS!!! STICK THAT IN YOUR PIECE OF MUSCLE U CALL A BRAIN. DOesnt mean if u have a solid hardware that ur software will run smooth u idiot.. if u have a crappy software it wont work properly, go try doing wat applesoldier did on a windows 7 or linux on the same hardware specs, i bet u won't even b able to u fool seriously voiceofreason..more like voiceofstupidity666.

  • ur the idiot voiceofreason467 -_-..

if ur operating system is flawed and doesnt handle ur hardware properly u wont be able have a stable and fast workflow experience u idiot. And he is showing u thatin his video -_- so instead of calling ppl names how about u open a goddam book and learn..-_- dumnass

  • im not a fanboy i also like gaming pc s i just like mac better. and tell you friend to post a video of it

  • there is a difference vista sucks and u have no idea what ur saying

  • holy fuck u dont understand what im saying. ok u can have good hardware on your vista but vista is so fucked up it wont work post a video response with that many apps open. if u had 2 computer with the exsact same hardware one with osx and one with vista im pretty sure osx will be better

  • no im saying even with good hardware and vista or xp or win 7 it wont be able to handle it try it seriously and if u have good hardware the windows operating system just ruins it and if u have good hardware that u upgraded ur pc with then its probly more expensive than a mac if u could run that many apps

  • yea if u have a fast cpu the whole operating system in windows wouldnt be able to hold that someone post a video with the same number of applications open and show me. windows sucks get over it.

  • Uhhh well you do have a mac pro with a quad core 3.somethin ghz processor and like 8 gigs or somethin of ram

  • 14 actually

  • arrrrrrr, 14 gigs arrrrr i vant them!!

  • damn

  • if pc even attempted this it would either just crash or lagg like hell

  • the pc i' using now can barely take on more than one window

  • no it wouden't? if you have a fast CPU and lots of ram you can do some major multitasking.

  • The video is sped up, so it is really difficult to tell how smooth your computer is really running.

  • sped up, lol, not much at all dude. watch it close. that mouse cursor isnt going that fast at all

  • the point is that it takes away from the integrity of the video because it can still hide any small stuttering. I'm not saying it is choppy, maybe you just didn't want the video to be too long and redundant. I was just pointing out a flaw i saw in the video.

  • What's your boot speed Soldier?

  • I have a mac pro 8 core with 3.2 ghz and 10 gigs of ram. duel monitors and I am a video producer. I can not belive how amazing this computer is. I have used pc for years but after getting use to my work staion. I went to the school I am going to and had to use a pc for photoshop and I could not even do it. I guess I was just sitting down and putting up with pc becuse I never new any better, but now I do. Mac pro is amazing and I will never go back. I dont konw how the ppl that diss mac can even

  • "I can not belive how amazing this computer is."

Yt better be for almost $3000 and 8 cores lol. And then you compare it with some $500 PC...how funny

"dont konw how the ppl that diss mac"

Be fair will yah, Mac does NOT equal Mac Pro, the lower end just sucks. How the hell do you think you can convince PC users with a $600 Mac min with a slow 1.8Ghz CPU, a lousy 1GB of memory and an ancient 80GB HD and no room for expansion? That my dear friend ios what Mac stands for and not the Mac Pro.

  • And all that talk quality... most components like CPU, memory, hard drive and video card are the same as on the PC... and even if it's slightly better built... who the heck wants to run a 1.8GHz CPU, 1GB of memory and for Pete's sake an 80GB hard drive.. .that's when people say; "It migth be slightly better quality, but the hardware is extremely outdated!".

  • Description "THIS IS NOT A MULTITASKING VIDEO".

Video "Ok lets do some mulitasking.

    Tosser.

  • What are you using? MB, iMac or Mac Pro? May I know what's your hardware config?

  • Um... If people think this is lightweight, they're crazy.

He's using pretty much every apple pro app there is AND he's rendering files in shake, compressor, houdini, and imovie... And his processors are still at about half their load.

And for the last time people... We know you can run 100 apps on your PC. Anyone can with enough ram... This is showing the power of the ENTIRE system.

  • Oh, is that why I beat every Quad Core Mac out there at Geekbench with my overclocked Q9450? lol

  • If you noticed I wasn't actually speaking out against PC's, I was being careful and only talking about the people who try to make this into a mac vs pc battle. What was your Geekbench score by the way?

  • OH MY GOD!

    A MULTITASKING OPERATING SYSTEM!

I'd do that on my new i7 workstation, but... it's bust actually doing work.

  • LOL, it's bust...

I know, i know, it was only a typo. Funny though.

  • He's addicted....seriously, I don't think he can stop at any time... when I'm 75 and have my grandchildren on my lap I will still seeing him making these kind of videos...I'm 100% sure of that lol

  • he has another account called appleshakeguru for his tutorials

  • my PC, 92 apps open.

    Load = 15%

    shut your mouth.

  • True you may have 92 apps open but

Are they processor hogs like Shake,Color, livetype, Final cut pro, or are they just small programs?

  • These are medium to high level apps, except maybe Firefox (not busy?) and iTunes. I see 5 copies of VLC running videos, and some video editing suites, including iMovie and Final Cut Pro. All are listed at 2:41. It's quite impressive, actually.

  • He stopped making tutorials...now it's all about Pc vs Apple... it seems he's getting owned a lot lately that he has the need to make so many PC vs Mac videos...it just shows how frustrated he is lol

  • I'm running over 100 apps right now...on a PC.

  • QUESTION HERE

how can i flash my VBIOS without using Free DOS cauz i need acces to my C: drive

  • I rated this a 1

  • How much ram does this mac have?

  • I rate this 1 *!

  • do you have the ability to post an actual numbers and finish the vid or was it slow as shit

  • song???

  • for the pc people saying there machines can do this, can you please show me? i kinda want to see it, im not a hater, i just want to see it.

  • The only problem with a test like this is it cannot be duplicated or timed to be used as an actual performance measure.

We need a test that has some kind of real time event or at least a timer for tasks that need to finish. Using shareware applications would be great too so everyone can attempt to duplicate it and post their times or scores or results.

  • The only problem with a test like this is it cannot be duplicated or timed to be used as an actual performance measure. - svtcontour

Run several (2 or more) Full test Cinebench 10 benchmarks at once while playing several 1080 HD Movies. I think you'll find that a good level of a testing stability.

  • Thats not a bad idea. Basically have a looping 1080p video or two and while thats going on, run Cinebench and check the scores. Might do that tonight :)

  • My PC should be capable of the same. However, I probably payed a lot less for it :)

  • Is this all the Mac can do? LOL with PC you're (or "your" as Emeek would say) always a winner!

  • read the description, its not all it can do, hes just showing the load it can take.

  • nice work mate thats real multitasking.

PC users are giving you ones because ther jealous you can do so much more than them hehe.

  • damn bro.. thats the way to show these pc fuckers how to REALLY multi tasking :P.. nice work..

  • I've seen some cool things in my life, but that was awesome! I like the music too.

    Until next time,

"A MAC PRO (DESIGNED TO RUN AS A SERVER)"

That's called a WORKSTATION (A server grade hardware running "client" OS)

I bet that @ 15 you don't have a clue what grown people "need to do" to earn money to feed themselves and their family, do you?

Btw "that many apps" is what constitute a CGI workflow

Seriously... you really need to grow a little faster 16 is comming and now one know what you'll need to do in order for your family to continue eating then.

  • Comment removed

  • A Mac Pro is a an Investment to earn money, your tool set is as good as you intelligently choose It (fn) your needs.

And people carefull about their choice generally knows where to buy RAM and HDD at decent price (not from Apple).

Blatant, missleaded commented as yours weren't commons from people of your age.

I guess the proportion of educated people doesn't really change, only how many of them can be heard in such environnement.

  • Ok lets assume you're not full of crap because you're young, in that case it just getting sadder, because according to you, you won't get smarter.

Now about : "one could build oneself a computer (or "Workstation"), and get far better value for money than a Mac Pro."

Please do your work and paste here a complete configuration with the exact specs of a MacPro for less money (exclude buying Ram&HDD form Apple)

Dual QuadCore Xeon, FB-Dimm RAM, 2xGBitEthernet, FW800,FW400,4+2SATA slots AND silent

  • oh and forgot to mention :

    - 2 FW800, 2 FW400, 2 GigaBitEthenret, Audio Analog+Optical/Digital, Wifi n, BlueTooth 2.x on board (no PCie slot taken)

    - after 1 Graphic Card installed (single slot or dual slot) to still have 3 PCIe Avalaible

    - Aluminium Case Silent

    - 4 Slide-in HDD racks (+2 SATA connectors onboard near optical bay, which doeas have 2 PATA connectors)

    - 8 FB-Dimm RAM Slots

    - 2 REAL QuadCore XEON CPU

No dangeling Cables, clean cooling path (no watercooling)

  • OS X!

  • Mac ftw

  • Pwned!

  • Is this the x2 2.66ghz Dual Core Xeon Mac Pro?

  • And he only paid $3,000 to do it!

  • Ive had alot of Very Expensive "Top of the range phones"including windows pocket pc ones. Then 2 weeks ago I treated my self to a white Iphone 16GB,I cannot believe how good this phone is!I only bought this because I had an ipod classic a year ago,and was so pleased with its Flawless performance. The Iphone makes the windows mobile phones look like pieces of Junk!I now am thinking of going for a Apple computer/laptop.How easy is it to adapt to Macintosh after a windows PC?Thanks in advance!

  • os x is very easy to adapt to. its easier to use than winblows. check out some videos of switching to mac on the apple website.

  • Nice editing - MAC POWER! OSX

  • holy shit!!!

  • Hi Eric, I'd be interested in seeing how your Mac would fare on this test I did as well as another Mac user. Its downloading a specific 1080P quicktime file from apple, then opening 40 instances of it and having them all run at the same time.

I did it and of course each video was a slide show at that point but I'd curious about your box doing it with more RAM and dual dualcore xeons and all.

    Thanks :)

  • hey in the side bar theres a type-o it says the mac is 21/2 years old

  • That should be about right for a first gen Mac Pro.

  • Snow leopards features like OpenCL and grand central is great, however applications must be written to take full advantage of those features. It could force people who have snow leopard having to upgrade their software for OpenCL unless that application supports that feature.

  • Grand Central probably will provide a moderate speed bump to an app without changing a line to the code. If developers want to take full advantage of Grand Central, an application rewrite is not necessary, apps can be tuned up for grand central probably over a period of a week to a few months depending on the size of the app. Also Apples own apps, ie. iLife, Final Cut, iTunes etc. will probably be optimised for Grand Central before Snow Leopards release.

  • Though I haven't researched OpenCL or Grand Central, I seriously doubt that Apple wouldn't force it's thousands of applications to be ported just for Snow Leopard. Maybe a decade from now it will be a standard, but forcing it on developers now would be disastrous.

So far, it seems the only thing Snow Leopard definitely won't work on is pre-intel macs, which is now a fractional minority anyway.

  • Why speed it up, we all know it would be perfectly fine without a sped up video. My MacBook can do a good load without much slow down.

  • after playing with windows for a couple hours it feels clunky compared to os-x. Im taking it off my hard drive, its BS.

  • Nobody gives a shit about what you do with your personal time macward. Quit trying to please emeek, he's not gonna let you suck his dick again.

  • stfu, stupid Windows gaming fanboy.

  • I've done these sort of stress tests on my computer like for example ran two cinebenches at once while having Prime95 running in the background along with virus scan, defrag, all my applications 20 or so running. It did slow down because of the high disk usage running the scan. However the big deal is that I did not BSOD using WinXP Pro. This is on a dual core with 2GB of RAM.

  • this isnt a video to show mine is better than yours just mine can handle it

  • this isnt a video to show mine is better than yours just mine can handle it.

Na Eric, didn't even think that, besides yours is a workstation made to handle larger loads. I did this to test stability and see how far I can stress it. I was quite pleased and likely won't stress it that severe in day to day usage.

  • this isnt even the tip of the iceberg of the things my mav can handle BRO!

  • Like not being able to run Photoshop CS4 in 64 bit?

  • MAC FTW!!!! windows sucks!!!!!!!

  • I guess that's why Windows has a 90% market share hehe

  • on computers over $1,000 apple has a 66% market share. and the only reason windows has a big market share, is because they'll let dell and anyone else who makes shitty $300 pc's put their software on it.

  • "on computers over $1,000 apple has a 66% market share"

And you're poud of that? ha!ha!ha!

"the only reason windows has a big market share, is because they'll let dell and anyone else who makes shitty $300 pc's put their software on it. "

Oh my God, he finally gets the clue that Macs are too expensive and that people are more interested in cheap computers ha!ha!

  • yeah cause those $300 dells run so great / their 40 mb's of VRAM, 500 mb's of RAM, and small ass hardrives, and don't forget your anitivirus software.

  • Only Mac fanbos think that the majority buy $300 Dells....sigh, already my CPU costs more than that lol

You still don't get the point now do you? Do you really think that the average dodo who browses the internet, does some Office, chat and listens to music needs a freaking $1500 computer? Let me guess... you still live with mommy and daddy, right?

  • Why do you assume that all mac computers are $1500? the macbook is $999 the mini is $399 (please do not comment on the low specs there hasent been a refresh for over 500 days) and the imac is $1199

  • well there is a mac mini refresh now. And its great!!

  • the mini is actually 600 and you dont get shit with it.

  • Erics mac pro is coming on 2 1/2 years old.

  • I have yet to see a Vista machine with lower specs perform better than a mac, let alone Emeek77's server-grade mac pro.

  • Well from what I've seen, his computer started lagging at multitasking phases that weren't even that high. I've used programs like that before, they are not at all processor intensive, so unless he was cheap and didn't want to pay Apple hundreds to upgrade the basic 2GB fail RAM they give you with the basic build of a Mac Pro, there's really no reason it should fail at what it did like that.

  • Your slacking off. You forgot the "os x brother" at the end.

  • Well of course a Mac Pro can handle it, they're Workstations for a reason. But if I had a similarly spec'd PC running Arch I could do the same to an extent. Granted I couldn't use applications like FCP, I could use Shake since there's a Linux port. But overall this move purely shows the load a Mac Pro can undergo. In short, nice vid.

  • doesnt work on my.. err. .donna know the name of it.. its my newswriting teachers, but fer some reason cannot do this. :(

  • That was Fucking awesome I'll try it on my macbook pro...

  • haha lol ok so u just took the last strand that thought windows had any hope and slaughtered it =XD.

Which system is this on? Macbook pro or what??

  • He probably did it on his mac pro

  • impressive but it would be cool to see how windows would handle it on the same specs

  • Which version of windows? OS X is a lighter OS than windows, not as light as linux but lighter than windows. So generally on the same specs it would take a performance hit under windows.

  • put windows 7 on that thing and you will see.

  • Hardly fair to compare 7 and Leopard, wait for Snow Leopard for a fair comparison.

  • lmao and what is snow leopard bringing to the table? This is an entire new OS vs some "enhancements". Sounds like a service pack to me I don't care what anyone says.

  • Snow Leopard is no more of a service pack than 7 is to Vista.

Snow Leopard is bringing grand central, openCL, better 64bit, support for upto 16TB of memory. None of this would be possible in a service pack.

Just because they are not changing the UI (and even that we don't know since a beta is not yet out), you assume its a service pack. Its far, far too early to speculate on Snow Leopard yet, we have not even seen it other than a few early alphas.

  • Well I have used Win7 and it is different than vista. 16TB of memory? Do you have a credible source for this claim, and if you do link it. Better 64bit? You mean full 64 bit you know they are just telling the PPC users to go get fucked. Well Apple exaggerates on their products just like they say leopard had 300 new features, but I bet not anyone can name 50. But we will see when Snow leopard and Windows7 come out Snow leopard comes out this year and I think MS is pushing WIn7 to come out in '09.

  • yes hes right, about the ram and the aple web site has a list of the 300 features and my mac is almost 3 years old dude.

  • It does have 300 new features, but these features are not all for the user. Most of the features are just little things, but still considered features. Also, going full 64 bit is a HUGE step in the right direction. PPC users are fucked but their system is old and its about time for a new one any damn way. Once we get 64 bit on Macs the PPC code will be removed making Snow Leopard faster, smaller, more resource efficient, and will over all improve the operating system.

  • Yes, go to the apple website forward slash macosx forward slash snow leopard. Obviously no Mac will be able to take 16TB of RAM, but it can support it.

64 bit has nothing to do with dropping PPC, the G5 was 64 bit, and Leopard is already a 32/64 bit hybrid and runs on PPC. Leopard does have 300 new features, they might not be huge but there are 300.

  • I know I was saying that as a separate statement. They decided to drop PPC which is good they don't have to worry about legacy support and all that.

  • No i don't think it is. Apple definitely need to provide more support for older products. That is the one area I can think of where MS beats Apple. MS only just stopped supporting Windows 3.1 on embedded devices (like tills in stores) as of november 2008, 18 years after they released it, no joke.

  • What older hardware should they support besides PPC ? OS X, 9, 8 don't run on things like Cashiers or things like that, that windows runs on.

  • Yes, you're right about this. People that bought computers with Power PC chips only about three or four years ago are up a creek without a paddle. Apple really needs to work on supporting older hardware better. Microsoft definitely wins in this area.

  • No one can name 50 because they haven't released it or really talked about it. Apple keeps things pretty hush-hush. Think before you type.

  • Um I was talking about the current leopard claiming to have 300 new features over Tiger and most can't name 50. Yes read before you type.

  • He was talking about naming 50 features from Leopard I'm pretty sure. But yea, Apple keeps there stuff behind closed doors. It makes it more fun to think about what that great company is doing though.

  • Snow leopard isn't really anything new feature-wise. What it does bring is more stability, speed, etc... It is meant to optimize the current Macs.

So yes, in a sense it is a service pack. A great service pack to have.

  • snow leopards lighter then both 7 will be and Leopard.

Also Windows 7 is pretty much wat Vista should have been, and its not bringing THAT much more to the table either, so its a lot more fair comparison when the final of snow leopard and final of 7 come out.

I hope they don't bloat the final release of windows 7 :/ that'll hit them hard.

  • Windows 7? It's only a beta and theoretically it will still be heavier than OS X because OS X uses darwin as a kernel which is derived from Unix, and the NT kernel is bloated. So Win7 may be faster than Vista but it's still slower than XP. So your Windows 7 point is moot.

  • bullshit if you tried it you would know how good it is.

  • I did try it, it's better than Vista but the new features are not anything I haven't seen in another OS. And you still avoiding the point about the kernel being bloated. It's pretty solid so far, but nonetheless it's still windows. And MS releasing the betas and what not are giving the virus makers a chance to already have viruses lined up for Win7 when it comes out.

  • Maybe you havent heard but the final version of Windows 7 will have anti virus built in and it will search for virses with indexing so no more scans. As for the kernel its not bloated its just what Microsoft does to the OS that makes it feel bloated. For example aero.

  • Kid you're a n00b. Jim Allchin he developed the NT kernel for years, and he said it was bloated. And why do I have to turn off all the desktop effects just to have a functional OS? And as far as them having built in antivirus all I have to say to that is, it's about fucking time.

  • Calm the fuck down no one was getting nasty all I know is I dont have many problems with NT it feels fine.

  • You switched to ubuntu for a while correct? So you telling me that windows kernel is as fast and smooth as the linux kernel? And I wasn't getting nasty just telling it like it is.

  • I will always say Linux is faster and smoother but sometimes its more trouble than its worth.

  • Not for me, however I am getting a mac for mainstream software.

  • I do like Linux a lot though.

  • Ahaha! It's tehcomputer man! How's your 10 year old Macintosh? Did you come here to bitch about it?

  • Shut the Hell up

  • Of course their beta is going to be different than their release. Microsoft will find a way to fuck it up.

  • Are you counting on that? I am not a windows guy or a mac guy I am Linux. But I honestly think most of you mac fanboys feel threatened by Windows 7 that is why Emeek keeps making those Win7 videos.

  • Emeek is trying his hardest to change peoples perspectives before it officially comes out. He is willing to do just about anything to hurt windows 7 at this point and get people to buy a mac. Lying and overexaggerating is the campaign he runs by kinda like the guy he voted for in the elections *instantrimshot*

  • Yea he is scared of what Windows 7 could be. If Windows 7 turns out good the mac people have a problem on their hands. Because if Win7 is better than snow leopard that means a lot of people switching back, Because for most people the only reason to get a mac is OS X which is my reason as well?

  • Actually, the biggest reason i found that people get a mac (from the people i personally know) is because it's "in". It's kind of like a fad which is why so many people beg their parents for one even though all they do is go on facebook with it.

  • True true most celebrities have macs. It's like a fad all of Apple is like a fad.

  • LOL as you say this, one of my friends signed in on Messenger and she switched to an imac because she said it looks cool and fit the decore. She quite honestly said it doesnt matter whats inside as long as it can surf, get her email and look good. She is artsy and the type that has to look good all the time even if she's in pain (ie good looking shoes that hurt...)

  • thats like saying put snow leopard on it vs. windows 7. Snow leopard will be even lighter then Leopard and 7 obviously, soo it'll still perform better with those specs.

  • I did a test on my box once which thought was not bad.

Run six 720P videos at the same time at full framerate and while doing so, starting up six virtual computers at once. Not a slowdown on any of the videos.

My test is even more harsh than this because a video is time sensitive - meaning you will detect dropped frames visually. This video shows a lot of stuff going on but many of the videos are barely moving and load will not be 100%

I've got that video posted a while back.

  • Not let's see if a Walmart PC with Windows Vista can do this kind of stuff. Lol. Nice video.

  • Walmart PC's are for casual users. You can't compare a Walmart PC to Eric's Mac.

  • Let's see if a Mac MIni run GTA 4 or Photoshop CS4 in 64 bit...

  • that is awsome , none of my pc 's can do that , and thats my i got a mac , even my powermac g4 with 400 mhz is faster than my 1 year old dual core acer laptop, haha . that just shows how much windows sucks
