  • That's definitely Ellie Greenwich's voice doing the background, if that's any help.

  • That'a quite a good song.

  • Thank you for sharing this TopshelfTom!

LOL! Bobby Vee was my first thought when I heard this!

I tried to reach Artie Resnick a couple of years ago about his bizarre tune 'Here We Go' but I never got a reply [any insight on this tune would be muchly appreciated as well...] The last tune I saw Artie trying to hawk was a tune about the Amy Fisher scandel.

  • Hi Tom,,i send your song to 6 DJ's friends of mine i hope someone can help you to fine out ..,..Amnon in NY

  • I like this song thank you for sharing your rare song,,Amnon,

  • I'm liking this one big time!! Thanks!

  • Sounds like Lou Cristie w/o his usual flare.

Yes, it does sound-alike Bobby Vee, with even a fewnotes from "Take good care" of my baby...

I hope you find out who it is. Thanks for sharing!

  • This is Clark Race He was a DJ

Look uo his name on yahoo you will find it

    That who the singer is

    susie101fm

  • I haven't been able to confirm that, and can find no airchecks of Clark available to hear to compare the voice...the facts dont add up though since the obit says he wrote the song, when this song here was written by resnick and shapiro and that is confirmed by the record label of the george mccannon III version of the song on mercury.

  • The obit on him says that he wrote the song in 1959. It is clearly modelled after "Take Good Care.." which wasn't even released until 1961, so the Clark Race song is probably different.

For me, case is still unsolved and still leaning toward Ray Hildebrand.

  • @TopshelfTom arthur resninck wrote yummy yummy

  • Former YouTube user vinylman86 had a great George McCannon III video posted of a song called Thumbin'. If vinylman86 sees this or if anyone has the video or the song or the 45 please contact me.... i might be willing to spend big money for the record.

  • He's now "Vinylrecordsneverdie". Send him a PM.

  • Thanks!

  • It's a great track no matter who wrote/ recorded it

I would be nice to know though it's a shame there's no name to go along with the recording

  • As I just posted on '1963's channel, this is a nice 'Take Good Care of My Baby' sound. Can't help you with who it is, though.

  • Absolutely....i can't help but wonder if this demo was ever pitched to Bobby Vee...

  • Whoever sings this does a fantastic job. Thanks Tom, this is truly a gem.

  • Thanks very much, I love it!

  • I saved this onto my Ipod when u posted the MP3 at spectro and listen to it quite often. I have to tell you, I still think it's Ray Hildebrand. But, whatever, it's a great Vee-soundalike!

  • I had emailed Ray off of his website but never got a response. If it is him, he doesn't want to admit it, i guess. The thing that gets me is this acetate has a fade built in, as if this was possibly intended to become a released master!

  • The more i play it, the more it sounds like Ray to me, too, but he didnt go solo until '64 and that would've likely been too late for this record....especially since this sounds like a master that was pitched to labels for release (with the fade built in).

  • He could have recorded solo, intending to break away from the duo earlier but maybe it just didn't happen at that time.

  • Also, how do you know it's 1962? It could have been a later version, pitched for another artist (or just a demo for Ray), after George McCannon's version flopped. It certainly does sound like 61 or 62, but you never know...

  • How many songwriter acetates were still cut at 78 rpm after 1962? Thats why i wish i could get in touch with the songwriters, to find out when they wrote this and to see if they knew who the artist was...these brill building songwriters usually had certain people do their demos...

  • You have a point there, Tom. OK, so I agree it's probably 1962. Maybe you could trace something through Gil Music. On second thought, wasn't that one of the publishers listed on the USA copy of "I Want To Hold Your Hand"?

  • Gil Music, IIRC was on some copies of She Loves You.
