  • Hills was awesome, free popcorn!

  • or play the version of xenophobe on midways arcade treasures 2 for ps2,xbox,gamecube and i think psp.

  • I'm wondering could it be that Xenophobe was intended to be a official Alien licensed product? Just that they somehow lost the license but decided to go ahead and release it anyway with some changes to avoid copyright. This could explain why there is no music playing in the background.

  • I got the Lynx copy sealed :)

  • Weren't any legal issues with this? KC Munch-something was pulled but this wasn't?... incredible.

  • I love the music in this game!

  • I remember Hills. I got a Hulk Hogan action figure there back in the day

  • they really should have used music during game play for this game. the brief audio awesomeness at the beginning is needed when you're just shooting stuff with no audio awesomeness. no xeno

  • "Homage?" Come on man just say it's a carbon copy of Aliens, but like you said, without the license.

  • some1 explain how this game is completed on nes because it just seems nenverending

  • in the 80's...they used to put a game like xenophobe right at the entrance of the local arcade just to draw kids in to the awesomeness.....(other games they used to put there were gauntlet, spy hunter, 720 degrees, spy hunter, and mach 3...

  • @nintendoneil Gauntlet was a great game too.

  • Please Mark Can You Do A Review Of Guardian Legend For NES Please THX.

  • thumbs up if you clicked here thinking of xenomorphs

  • This game looks like crap. Pale imitation of the arcade game.

  • xenophobe = 1980's halo

  • Everyone Type "Won" Before youtube.com

  • @carlosisafuckingod pwnyoutube. com lol

  • "one would be a xenophobe if they have xenophobia." FUCKING BRILLIANT DEDUCTION!

  • I remember renting this game and thinking it was trash until I day later, playing with other people makes it fun.

  • The 7800 looks better

  • @ZankonProuductions "Better" is such a subjective term in this case. :p

  • i just played this for the first time ever, had only ever seen it inamoungst a pile of roms... wow, stay away!... the first thing i done was to come online and see if their were any reviews... CGR dont do the shittness of this game justice! its bad...real bad, bored after like 3 rooms bad!

  • wtf? this is alien 3!!

  • SEGA SEGA UBER aLLES..LoL

  • looks more like heterophobe to me

  • I remember the arcade Xenophobe machine had cool joysticks. They helped with the futuristic feel of the game.

  • This Game Reminds Me Of Bonanza Bros

  • My god, it's Spock and Kirk!

  • Is it possible to get on PC??

  • @Shades6275 get an emulator look it up

  • Hills...i can smell that popcorn machine.

  • they had this in a midway arcade classics game for psp

  • I remember this... and Hills lol. Brings back some memories

  • I remember playing this game but I only did because I knew I would never find an arcade machine anywere ... Great review man.

  • I can't believe you actually had good things to say about this game-I too enjoyed the arcade version and then bought the nes version and felt so ripped off It is on my list of shit games and it's a big list!

  • it thought there were going to be xenomorph aliens... :(

  • When I play Dead Space I see this game... Ship at :40 looks like the one that boards the Ishumria

  • Dammit I saw a xenofobe arcade machine on kijiji but someone bought it :(

  • Ahhhh......Hill's. My mom worked at one when Iwas growing up. Ours had a Final Fight machine, Ghosts and Goblins machine, and WWF Wrestlefest machine. And if you were under 12 years old, you could get a free small popcorn.

  • Listen, Titansone this guy is funny and cool with the games

  • this game sucks

  • Rampage was an excellent arcade game.

  • Two player was so much fun, trying to kill eachother, omg, loved the game....so many years ago...

  • I remember Hills. Hills is where the toys are!

  • brings me back.. Thanks for sharing

  • you obviously dunno what a review is do you? hence the talk

  • this shit of game never ends the nintendo version

  • This game is good, but i like the Atari 7800 version better.

  • yeah the arcade xenophobes ruled , my favorite character was and still is Mr. Eeze .

  • Comment removed

  • The Atari Lynks had the best version of the game. If you have the Atari Lynks, please do a review on that game. ^_^

  • You can also find it on Midway Arcade Treasures (at least the PSP version, haven't tried the others).

  • one of my favorite games. Dr. Kwack rules.

  • i just found this and kid icorus in my closet lol

  • My friend and I played that all the time on NES, sorry to see that it has not aged well.

Also, I'm sure 20th Century Fox would have an issue with a revival. Bu I've been wrong before.

  • i still own this game lol

  • Hills was awesome!

  • lolz, i thought he said PILLS =] =]

  • i had this when i was a kid... never understood it???

  • I have have an emulated Arcade version of this on Midway Arcade Treasures 2 Awesome Game Killer Collection

  • The arcade version was sweet and such a game really isnt possible to recreate at home unless you buy the original arcade machine. Cool vid, thanks for making it. You made me want to play that darn game.

  • alien

  • I always played as Dr. Kwack.

  • I just recently bought this as one of my first NES games along with Startropics and Chip n' Dale Rescue Rangers.

  • Xenophobe is alot better for the atari lynx more characters more action better music and it hardly ever gets boring.

  • Yeah, it also looks about 100 times better than the NES version.

  • 999990 points?

    Why not 999999?

Is there any reason why it just stops counting?

  • Apparently there's a Xenophobe port for the 2600. That probably is not the best version about, not least since I can't imagine how it would play with just 1 button.

  • looks like a character from star trek but the aliens look like something from alien but this game is no where as good as either of those movies

  • this game is very repeative which makes it boring but it has strategy and a new look at shooter games which makes it interesting

  • Never played this game but Sunsoft made one of my favorite BATMAN games so maybe I'll check it out.

  • Much better on the Midway Classic for the PS2.

  • Boring game, but I use to have this and played it for a good while until I got Super Mario Bros 3. Than I sold this one. lol

  • Maybe the arcade game really was a undiscovered great, but neither of the console versions I've played suggest that. If I chance upon an arcade machine somehow, I'll be sure to check it out, but otherwise, I'm not too bothered about the thing.

  • This game was pretty crap. Which is why you'll never see it revived. Only a few people like it for it is a cult classic.

  • I remember Hills. Ours was a Woolco before it became Hills, now the building lies abandoned since it's not really in a hot spot of town anymore.

  • Does it still technically belong to someone? Because if not you could move in and set up a fort or something. That'd be sweet.

  • I had this game for xmas ...and first I was soo excited ...but then I was terrible disappointed and sad... :(

  • one of the worst games I had

  • yeah i thought it sucked too

  • the arcade machine is just amazing love this game and the intro music as well is just great

  • i remember this game. i had too.

  • I remember this game.. remember saying WTF am I supposed to be doing???

  • The bit at the end where the guy gets grabbed by something and tries to shake it off by dancing left and right is funny ^_^

  • Oh man Hills was awesome. They used to give me free popcorn when I was a kid.

  • Whats the song at 0:09?

    awesome review btw :)

  • xenophobe is a rip ff of Xenomorphs the aliens of alien

  • I remember this game, but never tried it. Always thought it looked cool but I was only 7 in 1987

  • man, i remember this pretty much as you do, memories seem more fun than the game actually was. Each "level" was EXACTLY the same and did not get harder, you had a crappy gun at the start of each level even if you upgrade at any point. Then between levels you had to wait as they inventoried everything you have collected through the entire game. Like ya said, booooring! But fond memories nonetheless.

  • Good old Hills. ;-)

  • >>The NES version of this game proved that >>Nintendo was not pushing the limits of their >>graphics in their previous games.

Anyone not suffering from eye cancer sees that this game came from SUNSOFT.

  • i used to own this game as a kid, i feel so old now watching this video

  • The NES version of this game proved that Nintendo was not pushing the limits of their graphics in their previous games. This game and Super Mario Brothers 3 proved what power the system had. So many consoles (even today) never push the limits of what their systems can handle.

  • That's not completely true, the PS2 was pushed pretty hard with a few games, God of War, Devil May Cry, Grand Turismo. Though I will say it's rare to see a system pushed all the way.

  • And you're not completely disagreeing with me. I never said that it applied for ALL games , I just said each console will many times never push the limits of what their consoles can handle.

  • Any time government tries to step in and make things FAIR, they just make things unfair. It is better if Government just stayed out of our lives and our paychecks. And also layed off the bail outs and just let the market work by itself. FDR already proved that the New Deal was a failure. It didn't do anything for 10 years. And now Obama is trying to mirror that New Deal, which is going to ruin our economy for another many years.

  • I know this and agree with you. Why did you give me a -1?

  • I didn't.

  • Oh I must have offended the Walmart fans:)

  • @Rustyshackleford08 lol awesome name king of the hil is a great show and i often use rusty shakleford as a fake name when im in trouble at school haha

  • @macaronieandsteeze haha, that's awesome how has that worked out?

  • This doesn't look like a bad conversion for the NES, but it could have been more exciting. Good that it has 2 player though, I bet its a lot more fun that way.

  • Hills is where the toys are.

  • COOL

  • I have this on ps2 by midway arcade treasures 2. it is a good game. i remember the arcade one being harder and you died more. it looks like this game pushed the NES's hardware

  • The atari lynx had a good version of this

  • haha I remember Hills. They would give you free popcorn if you were a kid and they alwyas had videogame stations set up. I remember playing Virtual Boy there and I wasn't impressed with it even then.

Another great nes review. Very informative.

  • whats this got to do with fear of foreigners

  • thats what xenophobe is

  • I thought I read somewhere that originally the game was going to be a lot more elaborate, with the items actually doing things, but they just made them point bonuses when they ran out of time.

  • The sound effects in this version remind me a lot of the SFX in "Double Dragon" for the IBM PC (really primitive).

  • I didn't like this game on the arcade and liked it even less on the nes.

  • Hills was awesome.

  • I have this on the gamecube it comes whith midway arcade tresures 2

  • I always went to Hills to get my G.I. Joe, Ninja Tutrles, and Ghostbuster toys. That place was so freakin huge that after they closed it down they split it in half and made it into a Best Buy and a Target. I also remember that they had a big section for video games that I would always go to to see what they had to play.

  • Man the Intro music is so cool. I mean the latin jazz waltzy thingy. whats the song called?

  • Game looks it would get real boring real fast...good review though

  • First ONH!! ;-)

  • I had xenaphobe for the atari lynx, I think you could link up and play 2 players on that as well. The game was always fun at first but got old quick. You got to do the 7800 review, I didn't know there was one.

  • That alien kissed your butt at the end.

So the moral is that xenophobia is good

because the aliens will kiss your ass.

  • well, 'xenos' actually means 'the strange' instead of 'strangers', but that's okay. we all know Mark hates strangers. he once called me a 'fries and waffles puking Belgian Barbie whore' for no good reason.

  • You and your fancy language degrees. What do you know? (I am so jealous of the frites and Duvel on tap) -CGRHD

  • i'm pretty sure that's not the only thing you're jealous of... but hey. who can blame you.

  • @synthem nope, Xenos is a greek word, (both ancient and modern), and as a greek i know that it means "Stranger"

  • i'm 29 and man this game brings back memories.

  • nice to see a nes game reviewed :)

hope someday you will make a megaman3 review for the nes ;)

and compare it to the "new" one megaman9 for the wii.

  • wow a rewiew for day you greate!!!

  • Heh, they basically just gave the xenomorph visible eyes to make it different

  • ha i remember xenophobe and Hell yea i remember Hill's thats where i played my first nes lol and that infact is where I Got my Original NES You bringing that up brings back memorys and i remember this game. as well fOND Memorys :)

  • i loved this game back in the day and i still love

  • lol that guy looks like a pipboy

  • lol a sign of playing too much fallout3 :)

  • I like that nice crystal-clear SN sound when you collect things...

  • tom and jerry house trap had a similiar split screen it was on ps1 but i dunno what other consoles it was for

  • you should review the atari 2600 version because it's a pile

  • cool review 5 stars,

i had this game on the atari lynx

it looked better but i think if i would play it again it would look really bad

  • cursing from mark! a rare treat

  • Just pouring out the reviews these days, LOVE IT.

  • i have this game for the atari 7800

  • HOLY ****!! This is the game I've been trying to figure out the name of for years. I played this back in the 80's as a kid, awesome times.

  • I got this game cheap back in the day. And was happy with it.

  • Great concept for a game but the NES version fealt so repetitious.

  • the split-screen thing is a lot like bonanza bros.

  • lol 80s

  • This game IS pretty boring on the NES. But on Arcade is pretty good. :)

  • good job on the score!

  • heh... funny, I broke this game out the other night for the same reasons. Like you, I remember this game in the arcade quite vividly, and yet the NES version doesn't really live up to the hype.

The Lynx version isn't too bad, and is excellent for a multiplayer game, that is if you have another friend with a Lynx :)

I always thought "Gauntlet" was the ultimate multiplayer game back in the day...

  • That's because you are right sir. Gauntlet is hard to beat, so is Rampage. -CGRHD

  • I played this game on NES and I was bored in 20 - 30 minutes too, but I would think of it to be better when theres 2 people playing. I've never seen the arcade version though, I would like to see 3 player footage on that...

  • I like the awesome split screen technique that is used in xenophobe.

  • Finally an NES review!

  • Yes, it's about time!

  • Though a bit disappointing for the first NES review in a while.

  • Yeah, he should review Mega Man!

  • Yeah or Metroid.

  • cool game, looks fun to play :D

  • I would love to see more reviews of N64 games if that's a possibility.

  • me too!!

  • oh that's an interesting idea
