The throat surgery was carried out at St Vincent's Private Hospital in Darlinghurst the week after this, the last show. This is the first half of the show (total of 2 hours) and the Mozart outfit is from the second half of the show with the Melbourne Symphony Orchestra which went for another hour and 50 minutes all up. I have a copy of the raw tape which the CD was taken from. It has the whole concert including all dialogue between songs.

I believe it was about 2 weeks after this concert when he had his surgery.
Drugs DIDN'T screw his voice up.

Right before this concert, Elton had surgery to remove nodules (which were assumed to be cancerous, but were not). So, his voice was recovering from the surgery..
I think this is one of his best concerts ever.. I have it on DVD, and I watch it over and over. He is as a completely different level of vocal performance than he is now.. he constantly went for things back in the day - which led to the nodules from vocal abuse.. and drugs.. Now, his voice is a different timbre and much stronger..

it is because he lost his voice for 2 weeks in this concert but kept going thats why he ended up making it a 3 hour show because his voice didnt sound good so he would put on a good live show

Elton's voice at this point was going downhill. Other than that,he was playing the piano OK.
