He had a really square jaw in person and such clear blue eyes. That's how I remember him - while he hurriedly signed everyone's lyrics book and anything else, to raise money for hunger, after his show. And he smiled at this thin blond - which made me jealous. I had a crush on him for years. haha. I used to play "Taxi" in my room growing up, over and over. I saw him while I was barely in college. Harry sang just as you see him here. Really sang, really played, very simple and down to earth.
The best music making, story telling, humanitarian the World has ever seen. Bono can't hold a candle to this man. Harry just went about his business feeding the hungry of the world everyday without seeking MTV or Facebook plasti-celebrity. You are ALWAYS with us Harry, especially when we ride in a taxi.
I think this is my favorite Harry Chapin song..It gives me shivers and makes my eyes water...wonderful Harry ..May you rest in peace.Gone but never forgotten..
It shows the audience. Man. If I were in that audience I'd hop I showed a bit more appreciation. Then again, you don't realize what you have until it's gone.
This song is... philosophically timeless, what a priviledge to take the time to interpret it and consider what it means, to me...this is a classic, very powerful..
Harry usually finished his concerts with this song. The last I saw him in concert, a fund raiser in Huntington, he sang this with his brother Tom and with Pete Seeger. Thirty years ago today we were going to head over to Eisenhower Park when the news came that he had died after a crash on the LIE. I will be going to Eisenhower Park this Monday for a memorial concert and I hope that they will close with thisgreat song. It seems appropriate. After all, all my life’s a circle…
@MegaAngel1243 I am sorry that you never had the opportunity to see and hear him in person. Not only did I have the opportunity to see him in concert several times, but to chat with him and have him sign my album covers. He was generous, not only to his fans, but to the causes that were important to him. The proceeds from 1 out of every 2 concerts he gave went to these causes.
Harry Chapin spoke at a concert about helping others, and then sang this song...35 years later, and i am still working to help food banks, in memory of him.
I have not heard this song since i left the Uk in 1977,when i was 16. Now i live in Australia and i am now 50 years old..It reminds me of my life going around in circles. I need to cut the circle and then the good things of my life can enter in..Going around in circles is like a repeat in your life. And thats not good at all. Break this circle your self to have a better fulfilling life of your own. Good Luck to all. DeniseL
What a great song by Harry Chapin! I always smile when I hear it! I'm so glad I got to see Harry two times in concert, and shake his hands and speak to him after one of his concerts in 1980 or 1981! Peace, BobbyK
My mom used to sing this song to me and my brother when we needed to get to sleep.... still does the trick..lol
