  • Your comment about ND not having a decent WR in 30 years is incorrect and Samardja could have played in the NFL if he wanted but he chose baseball instead.

  • @benficaforlife1 I never said that Samardzija was not decent but he got his records in TWO YEARS, which goes to show how awesome Mayes and Brown were because they played in much more conservative offenses. But there has been NO NFL-caliber WR to come out of ND since Brown in 1987. That is what I meant. And honestly, Jeff is better off in MLB. He made the right choice.

  • @humblephil Of course, Michael Floyd might be the best NFL prospect to come out of ND since Brown, but we won't know that for a while. But again, Brown and Mayes were better overall WR at ND because they played in such conservative offenses and still were able to put up such great numbers, Brown much more of an all-arond weapon than any other WR in ND history, though, that is for sure.

  • Ever hear of a guy named Jeff Samardija.

  • @benficaforlife1 Yeah, and Mayes did his damage with 4 QBs in an option offense. And Tim Brown is the best WR in ND history, period.

  • @benficaforlife1 Yeah, and Mayes did his damage with 4 QBs in an option offense. And Tim Brown is the best WR in ND history, period. In fact, Brown did his damage in an option offense. Samardzija did his in a pro offense and he never played a down in the NFL because he was a better baseball player. Mayes and Brown were flat-out better.

  • God, I was such a huge fan of him and Lee Becton.

  • @srvaughan121 Me too. Hard to believe that he became the alltime leading WR in ND history in Holtz's offense and the marks stood for so long. If only Floyd could stay healthy next year, I think he might have a chance...but only if he stays next year. Teaming up with Riddick and Rudolph would be awesome. But only if Rudolph and Floyd stay. Here's hoping that they do stay for another year.

  • mayes deson powlus... some of my favorite players growing up... first people i knew of in football

  • sweep the leg!!!!!!!!!!!!! good tune

  • Derrick Mayes was awesome, i did expect to see Johnny beating up Ralph Machio to this music, lol

  • ok well he is not that good like jackson with the chegers well cuz jackson is the best revcier and he got 3 poeple on him and he still got the ball so this guy had 1 person on him so that why he can catch

  • 101Ivin I'le bet he cen spel gud tho.

  • I remember watching the first game he started in and the announcers said they didn't think he pan out to much at Notre Dame...well i think we know how that ended up, awesome talent!

  • But Mayes didnt really make it in the NFL....

  • That can be said about a ton of great players in college over the years.

  • Hoping Golden Tate can turn that trend around....

  • No need to hope. That guy gets drafted first round.

  • @benficaforlife1 And he has done nothing for SEA yet, either. ND WR have been a bust, outside of Tim Brown, at least in the last 30 years....and that hurts me to say, too.

  • Did he actually play with 4 QBs?? Mirer, McDougal, Powlus and Krug (vs FSU in the Orange Bowl)?? Wow. Just showshow talented he was if he was the ND career TD holder til Samardzija and Quinn.

  • Damn, my Noles could'nt stop this dude.

I love the vid. Keep it up!

  • I am not wsure anyone was able to stop him really. Think about the facrt that he pklayed with McDougal and Powlus (and Krug in the bbowl game against FSU) and still was the leading TD catcher in ND history til Samardzija. That just tells you how much talent he really had. Too bad he never got a good NFL career out of his talent, though. I loved him.

  • i see what you mean.

    this guy was amazing.

i dont think ive ever seen a highlight tape of a rival that i was so impressed over.

    D-Mayes is crazy good.

  • @primetime9399 He burned Samari Rolle for two TDs and Rolle was one of the best DBs in CFB while at FSU. Too bad he was too small to make it in the NFL. He was a helluva a weapon in college, that is for sure.

  • 3:11, the catch against FSU in the Orange Bowl was FAN--FRIGGIN--TASTIC!! The guy was a game-changer, for sure.

  • he caught everything thrown in his direction, my favorite Notre Dame WR by far

  • oops forgot about Tim Brown, ok then Mayes is one of my favorite LOL

  • when i see derrick at the superbowl will give him this link..will bring tears to his eyes..wow man..you talented.

  • thank you for putting this up. now i remember why he was my first favorite player.

  • Bout time someone used the Karate Kid song for a highlight video. Now, you need to look up the Teenwolf soundtrack for a song called Win in the End and put that on one. Good work.
