  • i have a 98 740il, when i step on it i feel like it goes 0-60 faster then this, ive never timed it so i dont know for sure but does anyone else agree?

  • @e2ek1elEs212 This is only a tenth of a second or two slower than the time when it was new

  • my 740il 1997 can 0 to 60 in about 5 seconds or less...

    and its all stock! :D

its the best made BMW :D

I can wonder how much difference if it has a supercharger that changes the hp from 280 to over 400hp..

  • my 750il goes in about 5 seconds

  • @xallamerican23x Then it isn't the same generation or stock

  • that 4.4 makes a great noise! :D

  • Comment removed

  • 7 seconds? That must be one pretty weak 740, I know for a fact that my 740 goes 0-60 way faster than 7 seconds, all stock car too

  • @Nico401 When they were brand new they went about 6.8 seconds. This one hasn't aged badly at all.

  • @Nico401 7secs wasn't bad, but I'm sure this car would do 6.8sec or better with some service. Good tires + fresh fluids + intake gaskets + spark plugs and injectors would do the trick.

  • @Nico401

"Way faster" than seven seconds? Umm no, it isn't.

It is ~280HP moving a fairly heavy vehicle. That doesn't make for a fast car.

  • Like if you feel guilty whenever you accelerate a BMW and see the average MPG meter drop to the right

  • I got 8 seconds camera shock doesn't lie just look at rpms the speedometer didnt even move yet. I go with the rpms and if its brake torqued then the second the rpms jump I just time it from there. And bmw's exaggerate speed, your 60mph may actually be 57mph and it only gets worse after that. The best way to time the car is the instant when it makes forward motion from a stop to 60mph or 1/4mile.

  • @BimmerM5e39 Go watch my new video "0-60 Times Explained". There is no way for you to accurately gauge the 0-60 time off of YouTube. Plenty of people have discussed this already. There was no brake torque launch otherwise the title would have mentioned "Launch". Every car has a speedometer flaw which makes an almost insignificant difference at the most (how long do you think it really takes to get 2 or 3 mph with this car?) I have made sure I count for that.

  • @BimmerM5e39 8 seconds is pathetic.....i have a 98 Mercedes SL CLASS and it can do 0-60 in 5.1 and its weighs 4500 lbs +........bmw is a slow ugly overpriced piece of shit....even the m3 m5 and whatever else they make

  • @560merc hmmmm if you happen to have a stock sl then I do believe you are lying. The stock time when they were brand new was closer to 6 seconds. The fastest I've seen is 5.8 seconds.

  • @LimitPushing THE 0-60 IZ 5.1 AND MY CAR CAN FUCKIN SMOKE UR OLD BMW!!!!

  • @560merc It really is concerning to think that you actually believe I own this car. I have 68 videos at the moment and over 45 different cars that I have tested for the videos....do you really think I own them all? And you are wrong about the 0-60 time. The stock time is much slower, not that it matters since I doubt you own the car. If you do own the car and you want to prove me wrong about the 0-60 time, post a video on your channel. Ill be waiting.

  • @LimitPushing ok, first of all i havent seen any of ur other vids nd i was assuming you owned the car....idk why that wud be concerning to you, and i am correct about the 0-60 time. i have seen some websites that say the 0-60 time is 5.8 but thats not true nd i have seen some that say its 5.1......it all depends on the condition of the car, my car is in mint condition, and has pirelli tires so the whoever says the 0-60 time is 5.8 prolly had balled out tires, had alot of shit wrong with it.

  • @560merc I haven't seen information that says anything below 5.8 until Mercedes switched to the 5th generation in 2003. Post a video of this car. I'm interested to see a mint condition 98 sl,especially the mileage numbers. Also a 0-60 would be cool if you can manage that.

  • @LimitPushing i have done it b4 but i dnt think im going to post a vid

  • Bullshit. Brand new a 98 sl class would go 0-60 in 5.8 seconds, look it up. And when its 13 years old its probly 6.0+. So my 2002 bmw m3 with its 4.3 0-60 time would kick your cars ass. I got a custom body kit with fat ass tires and rims. I gaurantee your just jealous of not having a bmw.

  • @560merc A 98 740IL Weighs 5500 lbs+. And They Are Not Over Priced Mercedes Are. You Pay A Little Extra Because It Says Mercedes On The Car

  • his is my car and not only did we have three eople in the car but I have about 300 pounds of subs and amps in my trunk

  • have you guys ever been stopped by the cops doing these tests?

  • @KLewisChef Not yet...

  • More like 8 something. Of course it's a 98 and a large car.

  • @gajda1984 It's 7 I promise

  • @LimitPushing Timed 8.0 seconds exactly on my iPod Touch.

  • @talldude123 You cannot time this off of YouTube you need the raw footage. I promise you it is 7 seconds I timed it piece by piece on my video editor and I really have no reason to lie.

  • @LimitPushing Come to think about it other 740iL's are about the same speed 0-60 so your estimate is right

  • whats the engine?

  • @otuma1 BMW's 4.4 liter V8

  • @LimitPushing thank you

  • @otuma1 4.4L v8

  • humm.. doesnt look like 7 seconds to me...more like 8 actually

  • @gearhead291 Nope I measured it out on my video editor. We had 4 takes to choose from. It was actually closer to being under 7 seconds.

  • @LimitPushing humm.. the youtube counter must be slow, start right at 00:36 , hit 60 right at 00:44...thats 8 sec

  • @gearhead291 It always does that. I don't know why. I could make a video showing how I count it for this/all of my other videos if everyone wanted me to. The only reason I would say mine is more accurate is because my camera is recording at an accurate frame rate in high definition.

  • @LimitPushing itc cool, i believe you, youtube has its bugs anyways..

  • My fav BMW of the late 90"s

  • @90Mrknowitall Awesome color too. That gold color was a really limited edition option. It was only available in 98.

  • not at all shabby given its age and weight

  • @FPVsean Definitely. A lot of people are gonna say it's slow but it is old, heavy, and meant for luxury

  • @LimitPushing 7 seconds is definitely not slow!!

  • @FPVsean I wouldn't say so either

  • did it have a crash, the badge is moved.

  • @maeng97 I honestly did not notice that

  • @LimitPushing i'm not sure, some people just moved just for the heck of it, but if it had rear-end or some-sort of crash, some of the time the badge isn't in the original place, like a private bodyshop would do.

  • @maeng97 the badge is not moved they are all on the back right for that year and that model I would know cause the 1998 was bought my parents new and I bought it from them later down the road

  • @jlaudiobmw740il nope, it's right next to the right rear taillight, that one is wayy up on the trunk deck. and i'm sorry if i'm offends you, i can't stand that kinda stuff.

  • @maeng97 I was saying that all the decals are on the back right side and it has not been in an accident because it has been in my family since it was new and before I bought it from my parents they had the decal moved to up there because they did not like the postioning of it on the car the way it came and i agree.

  • first car i ever worked on professionally. what a fucking mess it was, it looked like the guy who owned it blasted down dirt roads all day every day, wires hanging and jesus christ it made me wanna cry. i likes big fast v8 sedans, figured it would do better though.

  • @FatGuyWithAKatana Did you work for a chain mechanics place or something local?

  • @LimitPushing tire kingdom aka satan's filthy asshole of an auto shop. then i worked for my brother at a little rinky dink shop but he hires people who really know their shit well, ASE fuckers but it got slow so i got laid off, yup, my brother laid me off.

  • @FatGuyWithAKatana That sucks but at least you got some experience towards another job. That is...if you were gonna get another mechanics job.
