Any movement other than to the bottom is not considered a squat. Call it what yo want but ony when you hit the bottom of the hole is it a real squat!!! and no you dont have to worry about blowing out a knee...this is a physical therapist talking. There is only one way to do a proper "biomechanical" squat and this vid is a great example. There are many other ways to "bend" but unless you do it like the vid it is not "biomechanical"
Sorry paying to much attention to little details. As a random lifting question, is it common for lifters to have to hop forward on the catch part of a clean to have their back in a more upright position? I don't see other lifters doing it, and was wondering. Thanks for all the replies so far.
it's not good. jumping forward is a technical error that usually happens with max attempts. The weight becomes too heavy to maintain proper positions during the pull, letting the bar drift away from the body. At the top of the pull/going under the lifter MUST jump forward to make up the difference of the space lost between them and the bar to be able to rack it on themselves.
I'm just glad to see someone doing a REAL squat as they call it 'ass to floor' not those half squats that are just to throw up big numbers and hurt your knees/back when done badly.
