@BillyBoysing It's debatable at best. You could perhaps make the argument that the Canadian forward made contact with the pad. Hardly proof that the refs were bought, as you claim. This was the greatest team Canada ever put together, there was no shame in losing to them on their home ice.
@mistrbrwn it has nothing to do with the greatness of the teams.
There is always shit like this (a forward drags down the goalie with the skate in the early beginning of the match and the referee closes his eyes) when Canada wins something, and that is a little annoying in the long run.
@nsakic Only someone born after 1975, or near Edmonton Alberta, would deny that! If you watch these videos closely, you can see how Orr's knee was hampering his style of play. It must have been very frustrating for him, to bad there wasn't arthroscopic surgery in the early 70's. But Orr's heart was still there which made him better than almost all on the ice. 2 questions-Where was Dryden? 2nd- What's up with getting a lousy rock for best player? I'd say make mine Gold!Thx 4 posting!
I've rented a DVD box-set of that tournament. It was great to watch those games that i've just heard about it besause i was to young then.
I'm a proud canadian. But frankly, a few canadian players showed so little sportmanship. In fact it was kind of shameful the way they acted: high stick, slashing, intimidation...well Bill Barber acted like a real goon...a real animal!
Vachon was what Team Canada needed in 72, he should have played all the games. He just could follow the play and his style gave the Russians and others fits.
Yeah but both Olympics and Worldcup bring the best players to the table. So i see it as the same thing. Its funny only Swedes make a big deal about the olympics and this double feat. No one else in the world cares. Thats it... Go and convince the Japanese that Sweden is good at hockey because its not working on Canadians.
P.s. Great game last night. Glad Sweden could show us how its done.
Well, I am not intersted in fighting and I will give you that..you guys are good. I am a kanadick som bor i Sverige och är trött på allt skitsnack jag har hört under de 10 åren jag har bott här. Man blir lite som jag är efter det.
Canada has made pro hockey what it is and opened doors for countless young Swedes and Finns to go pro (respect that and the way they made the game what it is today to some extent)
Why did not the Canadian forward get a penalty at 0:11 when he slashes the goalie????? My god, talk about bought referees...

@BillyBoysing you're reaching. Look at the replay at 0:35 and tell me there was a slash.

@mistrbrwn Okey - to be absolute correct - the canadian forward use one of his skates to drag down the goalie. Satisfied?

If that was true maybe you should give the pros back.
Sounds like you don't like Sweden much... that's your problem.
I'd be proud of them. They have an amazing hocky history for such a small nation.
By the sound of your nick it seems like you are Swedish...

Agree, no point in fighting at all.
Canada has made pro hockey what it is and opened doors for countless young Swedes and Finns to go pro (respect that and the way they made the game what it is today to some extent)
Lets agree to disagree.
Be well
