  • Oh I remember this series, so glad to find a clip of it here! I used to absolutely love the theme tune, still do. Just lovely. Adam Faith was gorgeous looking and as far as I'm concerned a very talented actor.

  • he was so gorgeous and so brilliant at every thing he did a real natual gosh I miss him

  • i have'nt seen this i am too young to remember this 1970s series.

  • This used to be on telly at 9pm on a Friday night. I used to run home from Girl Guides and hope I hadn't missed too much of it.

  • Thanks for posting this great footage. And yes, definitely time for a Budgie re-run.

  • What a first rate actor Adam Faith became. I loved "Budgie" with the memorable opening titles and this brought back great memories - the adrenalin of the LWT ident, gantry mixing vision etc. Keith Waterhouse & Willis Hall on absolute top form with the added bonus of Charlie (Angus/Sugna) Endell via Iain Cuthbertson's star turn. What great days - concorde, platform shoes, spangles, footballers from England playing in Div 1, no Iraq war, cheap gas and electric, fish n chips all round........

  • yes I'd like to see more of that.

  • Use to love this series.

  • Good old Adam Faith couldn't sing or act , but that never stopped him hyping himself up to the job in hand like he does in this clip

  • That's Michael Lindsay Hogg directing.

  • The VTR in this video is an RCA TR-70, can't tell whether it's a 70-B or 70-C.

  • I get more entertainment out of Adam Faith doing 2 minutes of Budgie than a whole evening of modern TV. Pity ITV dont repeat it on one of their channels. I last saw Budgie reruns on Ch 4 in the mid eighties !!.

  • What a great idea vidpop. I think we should turn back the clock any one got a time machine.

All we seem to get on tv these days is crap programmes.

  • Interesting. Just on a point of historical accuracy, Aquarius was presented and edited by Humphrey Burton.

  • nice upload. tx

  • if anyone has interview footage of Adam, it would be great to see... he had his head screwed on and had a lot to say for himself... a real character!

  • This is brilliant. Where on earth did this come from?

  • This was taken from an edition of LWT's Aquarius series called 'Pressure Cookie'

  • I have vague memories of Aquarius on Sunday nights. Wasn't it presented by Peter Jay?

  • It might have been at some point as he was working at LWT, but this edition wasn't presented by him.

  • He did: Peter 'first-class brains' Jay was the first to front Weekend World before Bwian superseded his duties.

  • Nope, you're thinking of (now Sir) Peter Hall.

  • where did i put that old budgie Jacket

    superb

  • OOOHH, sorry I got the dates a bit wrong. Hopefully my meaning about how good EMI 2001s are can withstand your nit-picking!

Besides, I tried to do it from memory....

  • When you think of 70's UK TV, these are the cameras that come to mind.

  • and Marconi MkVIIs

  • adam faith is my idol as a singer

  • great clip.

  • Another great talent gone. Wonderful to see the old footage, brings back memories. For fans of Adam Faith, read his Bio - Acts of Faith a good read & insight into the man.

  • That theme tune is just wonderful!

  • Very informative and nostalgic!

  • Your video clip is great and I've rated it as awesome. Please check out mine on some trading cards of 1960's chart topping stars: Elvis Presley, Adam Faith, Cliff Richard, Billy Furry, Frank Sinatra, Lonnie Donegan, and Shirley Bassey.

  • Everyone puffing away on Embassy Regals alongside expensive equipment;colour video cameras the size of coffins; dial telephones. RIP Adam Faith and Norman Rossington.

  • Those were the days eh! :-)

  • Oh yes, EMI 2001 Colour Cameras. Delivered new in 1968 to LWT Wembley. Transferred to Kent House on the South Bank in 1974. Replaced with not so good Hitachi cameras in 85/86. Meanwhile the BBC continued to use the 2001s until the early 90s for Eastenders!

  • twr12, you are completely wrong.

The EMI 2001s were delivered and installed, studio by studio at Wembley between January and August 1969. They were transferred in 1972 to the South Bank. They were replaced studio by studio between 1980 and 1982 with Marconi Mk9s. They in turn were replaced studio by studio between 1989-1991 with Hitachis. They were then replaced all at the same time in 1997 with Ikegamis, which are still there to my knowledge.

  • I want one!!!
