Mike Pender was the founder and mastermind behind the Searchers, he was of coarse the rythm guitarist and at the very heart of the searchers original sound! with out Mike the searchers are nothing. ( at least mike can still play his guitar!)

@Gxzoomer Mike Pender was the joint founder of the Searchers with John McNally, who was 'of course' the rhythm guitarist in the group at the time of the hits. By the late seventies, Mike Pender didnt even play guitar on their records and the Sire records feature John McNally on all guitars.....so your comment that 'at least Mike can still play his guitar' is pointless, as is your sentiment regarding this money grabbing no talent (He split the Searchers up because he wanted most of the money).

One of the problems was MIke could never remember the words of the songs. Even in this one he muddles the words and once he sang the same verse twice for Sugar and Spice at a live show. Great voice though especially on What Have They Done to The Rain.

All the searchers songs be in the top with Mike Pender we are like to dream to see them together but I don't thing it is going to happen they have a reason to not be.Mike by him self he can't be very good on the other hand Frank,and John,they have for many years now Spenser and Eddie and are very strong they come to my town every year for the last 6 years and I'm in the front row every time ,they are perfect but again we are miss Mike from the group. I'm happy he is still around and sing .

The searchers come to my Town Every Year this is the 6th year they are very good ,but as the andygrahamme said  most of the songs come to the top with M.Pender so it is good to be together ,but again I know it is not going to Happen.

Both groups have their appeal, but for me the MPS sound more original. I only wish they were touring for the love pf playing for an audience and not to pay the bills. Most of these bands were ripped off by the record companies and didn't get what they deserved.

Mike Pender was the heart of Searchers,but this is weak no real sound,no power and Mike was never known for high volume.Its pity it ended up this way.

You obviously do not know what you are talking about. I have been a Searchers fan since 1960. i have seen the originals, the present Searchers and 'Mike penders searchers' live numerous times. Of the two present groups MPS provide the more original sound and are excellent.

Nothing bad about Mike - he is a great singer and a great musician but the REAL Searchers are far more better. They also have new songs that are great, while Mike plays old hits to make his living. It´s a tragedy to see him perform with this mediocre musicians. Since he left the real Searchers he has tried to use their name twice and both times he lost. He is an ex to me. The Searchers is a great band while Mike´s band is something that is playing in dark bars and such stuff.

Orjanm. I see you are in Sweden so your knowledge of where MPS play is somewhat limited. The group play in Theatres, cabaret, stage shows, abroad and cruise liners. Just the same as the Searchers. The court allowed Mike to use the searchers name in the UK so long as the lettering was not larger than Mike Penders.

DON´T EVER compare Mike Pender´s band with The Searchers. And beeing in Sweden doesn´t mean that I am stupid. And again - he lost TWICE the right to use the name Searchers and even if he´s allowed to use it in smaller letters - what does that tell you?

It means that he is a founder member of the Searchers and as such will always have the right to use the name even if in a slightly restricted way. In fact the other group have now given up going to court to stop him using the name.

He can call himself Mike Pender`s Searchers but he cant call himself The Searchers as he tried to do or he will be back in court. It`s no problem for the Searchers as the loser pays the court costs ie Pender.

The Searchers knew they would be threatened by MPS so they went out of their way to produce a stage show. Unfortunately they used synthesisers and as such lostb the original sound which MPS recreate.

Well they may use synthesiesers care of Spencer James, they are however, a completely live act!! I have seen these guys 10 times in 18 months, two of which were in Australia earlier this year. I'm sure MPS are ok but these guys KNOW HOW TO PARTY!! Frank, John, Eddie and Spencer, I Salute you!!

Very poor, read Frank Allens book and make your own mind up on wht this guy tried to do to them, - twice! I have seen the Searchers many times in recent years, they are superb! On this video MIke was ill and not singing well. As for 'Mike Penders searchers' they recreate the original sound as it was in the 60's. No synthesisers as used by present Searchers. Dont take for granted one side of the story as to what happened as stated in 'travelling man',frank Allens book.

Mike can use the name 'The Searchers'abroad. He has as much right as John McNally to use the name.  The musicians in his group are very good. His bass player has been with him since 1984 and his son now plays drums. The new guitarist was with Hermans Hermits and is very good guitarist and singer.

Mike's voice is best known on the song needles and pins. Tony Jackson sang lead vocals on and sugar and spice and sweets for my sweet. Mike Pender played guitar in The Searchers so he took over on lead vocal duties as well. Mike sang for The Searchers until about 1985 when he left to form The Mike Penders Searchers.

Good stuff. Mike Pender pretty much is the 12-string king. I've decided to book Mike Pender's Searchers for my wedding, we're doing an oldies theme for the reception. Wish I could find one of those Beatle suits with the drainpipe pants for myself!
