It was "country rock" back then because country didn't rock like this! (Johnny Cash excepted). PPL, Poco, Willy and Walon , Neil Young and many others (even Bob Dylan's Nashville Skyline album right?)--TAUGHT country music to rock. That's why most Nashville songs these days have rock licks. This is ROCK with a country flavor, yeah.
Excellent they have not lost it one bit that sounds as good as the day they recorded it in the 70,s WOW.Live taken the stage was an excellent alblum.Unfortuanatly it is outta print.Anyone out there know where I could get a copy of it on CD.??????
Man, that was a great redord!! 1973? A very country record, but it was classified as rock because they all looked like hippies!! LOL . I saw them in '77 or '78 at UMBC in Baltimore.
Too bad the Goshorn brothers don't play with PPL. Larry wrote and sang this song for PPL while Tim's biggest PPL hit was probably "Sun shone lightly". They still play together in Cincinnati/Northern Kentucky and are damn good.
I thought that was Rick Schell. Thanks to SouthboundEwers for confirming that!Is Rick still living in Nashville,Tn?What a great song! This is my fav by P.P.L.I love Aime too.My daughters name is Amy.I grew up in Salem[right next to Roanoke].Thought it was interesting to look for this song & Their doin it live in Roanoke!I'll be up there Nov 28th for a reunion show with my old band THE RHYTHM DOCTORS @ The Hotel Roanoke. Thanks for posting this song! COSMIC!!!!!!!
I still remember the first time I heard this one. I was on my first run on my first over the road driving job. I had just left Tazewell, VA heading west on US-19 on my way back to Asheville, NC. It was late evening so I was chasing the sumset. 19 was a two lane back then. I was listening to some country station and this song came on the radio. I knew right then that this was the life for me. Songs like this and Running on Empty and ARS's Georgia Rythym keep us road warriors moving late at nite.
These guys blow away any of today's acts. That's why my kids listen to stuff like this, Poco, The Beatles, etc... When are the record companies going to wake up?
I'm a Prairie Dog too, longtime. What a shame that "Live: Taking the Stage" is not available on CD. Why is that? One of the great live concert albums ever.
Sorry this wasn't the line up on this song. The Goshorn's aren't on here. Larry wrote it.

Larry wrote some really good music from '75-'78. Unfortunately PPL was a bit overlooked given the songwriting quality.

Mighty Fine! Drummer Rick Schell turns in a wonderful vocal on this song.

I agree. Why isn't this CD available? Every so often a CD of "Taking the Stage" shows up on ebay for $50 or higher.

Yes, it's very expensive now. I was lucky I got it when it's released as CD.
