The difference is, we have a bunch of very culturally sophisticated people in DC now. It's evident in how people dress but also (to me) in how they talk, what they talk about, what references they understand, sense of humor, and a general atmosphere of not just tolerance or even acceptance but understanding and embracing of diversity.
