You can immediately tell the situation's getting tougher for the pilots as the captain says "Watch your speed". That's when they began to fight to keep the plane in the air, but in that low altitude, the microburst was too powerful.
I witnessed the immediate aftermath of this crash in Dallas. Our plane was coming in from Ohara in Chicago and we were in a wait pattern with other planes due to the storms. We landed and saw the smoke from the crash out of the window. The plane slammed down on the road and landing gear samshed vehicle to maybe 2 feet high. The plane then smashed into sections. Police came to our home because family thought it was our flight that crashed. It was horrifying to see the aftermath.
I saw this on the 1996 Black Box documantry that they use to make. How a microburts are so strong and vicious it threw a giant L-1011 like a leaf. Shows mother natures POWER!
@FLT111 No what I meant to ask did anyone survive but now I've seen your edited description. It is amazing that anyone can escape something like this! What did the pilots do to save 29 lives?
@Helicopterpilot16 Oh, the pilots didn't do anything, it was another fellow passengers I'm not sure of his name and a flight attendant who helped a few passengers to escape the burning plane. Many of the survivors were in the middle where the wings were and the tail section. The pilots were considered heros because they unwittingly flew into a microburst if it wasnt for them today planes wouldn't have this advancing radar system where it can track a microburst.
@FLT111 The 3 flight attendants that survived, Vicki Chavis Jenny Amatulli Wendy robinson all helped passengers get out of the plane except for Jenny Amatulli who was on the left side of the tail section the left side of the tail section was destroyed and she was badly injured unable too free herself from her seat, they should all be considered heroes In my opinion.
