Loved every moment of this when I was nine! When I saw it recently I was surprised at how fake everything looked. But it's still better than the cheap CGI of some recent films!
@mercurymadhatter NO,its a true statement. And i want to see white beauty around for a long time.I am tired of governments promoting race-mixing to produce a honey brown population
@subliteral I believe that's "Starcrash" you're describing. That was certainly a dark hour for all involved: Munro, Christopher Plummer, David Hasselfhoff, Joe Spinelli, et al.
IMNSHO this was the best of Amicus' three Edgar Rice Burroughs adaptations (the most fun and least depressing), and certainly the best of the four Amicus films to star Doug McClure.
@subliteral BTW, if you want a REALLY bad film to watch that has only a PAIR of good reasons for watching it, I recommend "The Warrior and the Sorceress" with David Carradine and Maria Socas as the TITular Sorceress. Yes, w/o the presence of Ms. Socas THAT film would've been all but watchable...
Yes, Doug was in Out of This World, but he is most famous for his role of Trampas in the long running (1962-71) western The Virginian now running on Encore Westerns.
"a primeval nightmaremare world, who's shadows hid the nameless terros which were yet to come." OH NO! A GUY IN A SHITTY BIRD/DINOSAUR COSTUME! RUN!!!
This is a proper old monster movie . The monsters may be dubious but Id much sooner have "proper" monsters like this than CGI. Also , Gak was played by Godfrey James , better known to Emmerdale fans as Harry Mowlem.
At 1:42 it was a nice touch to have the dinasaur thing explode when it hit the ground. Now, I'm not one to indulge in conspiracy theories, but if you watch closely, it explodes just prior to hitting the ground. It makes you wonder if, just maybe, it was a controlled explosion.
@babymaker16 True, but the films back then had a story. Today's films are mostly just paper thin and have no substance whatsoever. I'm 24 and would rate films like At the Earth's Core, Zulu and Jason and the Argonauts as being a million times better than the vast majority of today's films.

I think this was a later Hammer film. In any event the special effects were ghastly. However, Caroline Munro is always worth seeing in anything!

Doug McClure is the man! They don't make em like him anymore!

Now, you'd think a movie with Doug McClure, Peter Cushing, Caroline Munro, and dinosaurs would be the epitome of epic but....
Aw hell it's still a lot of fun.

Did people still not know by 1976 that the core was magma?
dudeimawesome2 2 years ago
nobody knew anything in the 70's.
but you're wrong too! The earth's core is liquid iron, magma is just the layer directly below the crust.

This came out in 1976, one year before Star Wars but it looks like it was made in the early 60's.

Star Wars really changed the playing field for Sci-Fi movies. People began to expect more from the F/X than they had in the past.
