And I think (please correct me if i'm wrong or toss out more ideas) the layman's analysis of this song is that it's about writing songs, or books, or both. I'd elaborate, but my typing has since become lazy. lol.
it's not that the song doesn't make sense. You just have to think and listen. People get fed lyrics that don't require you to use your brain. "I love him, he left me blah blah blah". Think. And listen. I bet you you wouldn't even wrap your mind about what 60's and 70's bands and musicians were talking about.
<another rap fan here :)(well i've been listening to hip-hop since i was like 12), and i totally feel the same about music to. I know Sara likes hip-hop and R&B to, so is cool :P
I like most of the songs from T&S that i've been listening to so far, i just started listening to them less then 2 months ago, i actually saw The Con video on VH1 like a year ago, that's how i found out about them. I guess i can say that i'm a fan of them now.
@iammotanz You're right. And that line is genius if you think about it. It's a line that can speak to anyone, makes one ponder about where their life's pushing them, and how they would want to shift its current to reach the place they want to be in life - find their calling, so to speak. And it's the first line in the song! Sets the tone. Great song.

Well, to some a song may not make sense and to some it may. this song makes perfect sense to me, even if it's not the true meaning.

This kind of music is what makes me dance. I love the voice of Tegan & Sara and their style of music. Their sainthood album in my opinion is amazing!
