Actually Armstrong and Ullrich have that in common, both are suspected to take performance enhancing substances. Ullrichs blood samples were found in the laboratories of that doctor and 1998 Armstrong urine sample showed EPO. However both of them are not convicted. Bottom line, both of them are awesome riders of their times and gave us the best battles. Stop accusing them if you have no proof.

90-99% of the peloton was doped in the 90s...these days alot of guys still dope but the percentage has gone down.

of course he did. he won the TDF at the peak of the EPO era, you have to be very naive and ignorant about the dark side of cycling if you dont realize that indurain used same as every other top rider (and 90-99% of the peloton). besides, there is no way that indurain could have beaten other doped up world class cyclists without himself using drugs. do you know how small the margins are at the top? you cant afford to give a way a 10-15% advantage (which is what a drugs such as EPO can give you)

And in the mountains, it wasn't close. The Big German is like Diesel engine in that huge gear grinding up the mountain. Armstrong could leap out of the saddle and hold a wicked acceleration on a 10% gradient. Jan often had NO RESPONSE to these attacks by the man from Texas.

Totally agree with you, lance is slim and still has the power... i notice on my club rides, because i\m really light (used to be anorexic..) i climb effortlessly faster than everyone else. all i have is muscle and bone and am really light, Lance has this.. and more power ofc etc, and so... when it came to the mountains the climbers win... the sprinters hate the climbs.

To win the tour, you have to excel in the mountains, AND be a very strong time trialist. Jan had serious power (see denja24 below), but what matters it the POWER TO WEIGHT RATIO. Armstrong's is higher. Jan was an excellent time trialist, but Armstrong was often better at that discipline too. Way too much for the Big German to handle.
