Man, I hate reading to be honest, lol. But, that book Brave Story seems awesome... Im 15 so my next reading project for my english class is gonna be on that book!
hey steph i dont know if you like books tht have a type of magic in them but you might like this book called witch and wizard bye james patterson there are 3 books in the series you might look it up and try it out it is really good it is nothing like harry potter if you have read those im not being a harry hater but i tink witch and wizard is better
thank you so much for this video. you helped me with my new years resolution on reading more books and helped me discover books i never thought were real. thank you!!!
I would like to read more stuff especially if it is video game related! Brave Story sounds interesting and might have to check it out. Love the cover!
Hey Steph. I saw a video where you talked a bit about the book 11/22/63 by Stephen King. I picked it up because you made it seem epic and so far, I'm 50 pages in and it's really interesting. Did you complete it yet? P.S. I REALLY HOPE AL DOESN'T DIE :( I know he's likely to because of the cancer but holy crap I would get so pissed.
Hey Steph, Let me recommend you The Hunger Games Trilogy. I finished the 1st book and it was really good. Could not put it down! I'm half way on the 2nd book and it's good not as good as the 1st but is a good read. Game related I read some Gears of War books a while because I wanted to learn more about the story. Also the book of Parasite Eve is ver interesting.
I didn't know there was a "Bioshock" novel either, @StephsTooDef !! Awesome. I'm so into the game that I've played it for both consoles. Love that game and I'm sure I'll now look for the book. Very nice vid!!
Cool video. I just today got "Reality is Broken" by Jane McGonigal. The book are about what we could learn from games and how to become better persons. And eventually save the world! ;) I think it going to be real interesting to read.
If it sounds interesting to you to check out a few of videos with Jane McGonigal hear on youtube!
I'm with you on not being a big fan of fantasy, but there is one book series that captivated me from the moment I started reading it. It's called the Sword Of Truth seires. The first novel is called the Wizards First Rule. The way that the author Terry Goodkind tells the story, makes it different than any other fantasy. Another good book to read is the Electric Curch by Jeff Sommers. It's a sci-fi, cyberpunk noir told from the first person. It's very dark and gritty but very rewarding.
I probably never would buy those novels simply because I see them as a cash grab by the developers/publishers. I'm fine with spinoff games, but books.. not my thing. So far the only books I have read or at last bought over the past years were Half Life 2:Rising the bar.. (which was a good read since I love the series) and a handful or comics which I haven't even read. The latest book I bought was "The Art of producing games" which talks about the last generations. So far its not very good. :/
Wow i never knew of a lot of these! Thanks for sharing! Have you read/looked through the book 1001 Video Games You Must Play Before You Die? Its a really interesting book to read and has some nice colorful shots from the games too! cool resource for any gamer! :)
Non game-related books I would recommend the the New Flesh Trilogy by Mira Grant which starts with Feed. Gaming wise there is the Dead Space prequel, Dead Space Martyr which is set hundreds of years before the events of the first game and deal with Altman, the necromorphs and the Marker. Also enjoyed Andrzej Sapkowski series of novel on which The Witcher games are based. Finally the Resistance books by William C. Dietz which fill the gaps between Resistance FoM, 2 and 3 quite nicely.
Have a ton of suggestions for you Steph! Assassin's Creed, Fable, Alan Wake, Uncharted, Mass Effect, Dragon Age have great novels out there. I have the AC, Fable, Alan Wake and Uncharted novels, let me know if you want more details.
I haven't read all that many industry related books, but because I study design I've read a shitload of game design books. So if anyone is interested in design I recommend Jesse Schell's The Art of Game Design - Book of Lenses and Scott Rogers "Level up!".
I've started reading more books recently, especially when I bought the iPad. eBooks are so convenient. I have to buy them from the US amazon and the dollar is a laugh compared to euro so normally I pay like 3 euros for a good read :D
I would love to see little mini reviews of these once you read them. I love to read also & I highly recommend the ICO book it is a great read especially if you love the game as much as I do.
I recommend "Revolutionaries At Sony" which is the complete story of Sony Computer Entertainment's origin, along with the development and conquest behind the PS1
For the Microsoft side, I recommend "Opening the Xbox" by Dean Takahashi. It was written in the early 2000s, but you'll be able to draw connections between the Microsoft's (failed) mission of the original Xbox, and how much they are succeeding in that mission today with Xbox 360.
Nice steph! i'm starting to collect manga and didn't know there was a Pheonix Wright manga i'm going to check that out soon and hopefully get my hands on the zelda manga's!
You can download and print out, and save it to read, the Zelda mini series from Nintendo Power Magazine. Same for some of their other series.
I also enjoyed the Nintendo Adventure games, which you can find two or three for download. The others are still out there for sale online and in used book stores, I like HBP marketplace.
While I'm into the Zelda mangas and Phoenix Wright, I also like Blue Wizard Must Die, the only poetry book dedicated to older games.
steph you need to check out stephan kings new book: 11/22/63. and if you are into some classics/gothic/mysterious go for the book rebecca by daphne de maurier
@StephsTooDef I've heard about 11/22/63. Never been a fan of Stephen King, but this novel really look's inticing to me. I think I'll pick it up when I have some extra dough.
Great selection of books!!! I got to get my hands on that Rapture book, good looking. I ordered 2 Bio Shock sound tracks, didn't get a chance to give them a listen being that they just came in the mail yesterday. Great vid Steph"
I saw volume 3 of Phoenix Wright and nearly bought it! I do miss reading too. After an 8-10 hr workday I usually sleep or try to relax sadly it's been w/o a book.
Real nice video Steph hopefully it'll encourage us all to read even if it's just a chapter or 2 here and there!
WHAT!?! I had NO idea there was a Bioshock book. I need to get on that asap. Thanks for the awesome recommendations, Steph. A nice change of pace from the usual video game videos by showing us video game related books! :) Awesome stuff.

Hunger Games! I read it over Christmas break. It was so good I'm reading Catching Fire right. You should definitely read it, it was so good I can't wait to see the movie.

If you want a slightly creepy, interesting, but non-related video game book, I'd suggest the "Uninvited" by Tim Wynne-Jones.
If you are looking for an awesome book, check out "Ready Player One" by Ernest Cline. Amazing novel based on a future world centered around a fictional digital world based on video game, music, and culture from the 80's to early 90's.
I've read two books in the past ten year, but in my defense, one actually had two stories. :P Parasite Eve, what the game is based on, and Alice in Wonderland & Through the Looking Glass. Say what you will about a big 19 year old guy reading Alice in Wonderland, but it's fun to read. XD
Steph, please do more of these videos. I'm interested in Brave Story now.

Hey Steph, great video as always. I've been wanting to get into the Phoenix Wright video games for quite some time now, and since I'm going to start reading the manga soon, I figured now was the best time. What game do you recommend I start off with?
@TheGamerz01 I've heard people really get into the Halo novels. I'm not really a fan of the series so I'm not quite sure how I would end up liking them.
awesome i love reading too it just kepps your mind out of stuff just you and the book anyway i heard on twitter since i follow you that you got the black 3ds is it better than the blue one plz answer im buying one in 3 days and i need to know what color is the best ANYWAY AWESOME VIDEO :D
@ascullydotcom That's awesome. I recently heard about it and have it on my Kindle Wishlist. I'll download it once I finish a couple more books. How is the story?
@StephsTooDef You would love it the story is insane, the book literally refrences every videogame (in great detail on occassion) and TV show from the 80's until present day. It's set in the future (2045) where the 1980's have made a comeback and everyone lives in a virtual world called the OASIS. Let me know what you think when you get round to reading it :)
