I hope someone will reply to me here, even tho this video is pretty old. I'm looking at a sunn stagemaster solid state head. is this thing any good? can i blast out stoner drone tones with this still or is this thing pretty much only capable of loud cleans?
@flamingbalsac1 Hi. I still moderate my videos, even though it's old now. And sorry, I don't know the Stagemaster. Some of the other Sunn solid state stuff has high-ish gain though.
wow I never knew the band took their name and logo from a discontinued fender amplifier.
I guess the band never got sued for using the logo because the amps are discontinued...I mean how often does that happen, a large company allows someone to use their logo as their band name AND band logo, and does not get sued...try to name your band McDonald's and use their logo and see what happens. It's Un-American not to sue each other.
All these Use are Sunn O))) amps anyways. So maybe they made a deal. I mean, it's great advertising really for this brand. In no way is it making them lose money so. meh.
no dude it's guy named Norm sundholm back in the 60's with his brother maked the amps and then many after Sunn was ultimately acquired by Fender, who discontinued production in 2002.
No dude these amps was by a guy named Norm Sundholm he was the bass player of The Kingsmen a band who gets a megahits back in the 60's call ''Louie Louie'' probably you know this song and at this time the band was ill-equipped and nearly powerful enough to play larger concert halls .Sundholm enlisted the help of his brother Conrad to help solve his problem and in 1964 first amp was made.
@hamthewizard93 The band just named their self after sunn amp company is all.I remember before sunn the band started getting popular you could get these amps cheap all day long. Then when sunn the band came out eveybody started jumping on the band wagon to buy one. They are cool amps but there are other cooler amps out there to buy epically with some of theses new company's that hard wire their amps point to point.
pretty much. I have a '68 Sunn cab and i must say it fucking terrifying. i have a Kustom Lead III head driving it and i cant turn up the volume past seven or my head would explode.
@plaguex1 These amps are really clean sounding amps
and are perfect for stomp boxes. I have a mint 1974 Model T rated at 150 watts put a ProCo rat pedal in front of that thing a stand the fuck back!! !EARTHQUAKE!
I recently bought a Sunn Dymos for $500. Its a great sounding amp but the sound cuts out sometimes usually when the input jack is moved or if I push on the front panel. The input jacks are brand new and just replaced. If anyone has any knowledge about the cause of the problem or how to fix it that would be appreciated.
I've got a solid state Sunn PB-10 Beta preamplifier on the way from the USA. It should arrive next week. I'll be running it through the Sceptre and posting a video of it shortly after it gets here. The attenuator for the Sceptre is also on the way here.
Nice collection of amp pics. I have a 67 Sunn Sentura II that I'm restoring to as close to original as possible. I'm also building a pair of the cabinets that went with the 67 Sentura - the short one with the offset 15's. I'm using JBL K-130's in place of the original JBL D-130's.
If by "they" you mean the BAND Sunn O))), then they use Sunn O))) amplifiers. This video is about the BRAND of amplifer Sunn, the band Sunn aren't the only band that use these things. And how can there be an alternative to a particular amp? It wouldn't be Sunn O)))! The band Sunn O))) use Orange cabinets also, I know that much, but most of their gear is Sunn O))) I believe. If you want a Sunn O))) amp, take a look on ebay and do some bidding, if you can afford one of these things, of course.
Sandford & Sonny Bluebeard, the most sacred fuzz/distortion pedal out there... It can't be bought in shops but you have to send a email to this mysterious guy who has to approve your request. No shit.
As for amps like Sunn O))), no such thing, to even get close you need a good Tube amp, no new crap. Orange, Vintage Ampeg, Matamp are all very very worthy contenders
Just curious... is this you playing or is it a song by the band Sunn o)))? If so.. does it require any special distortion/effect to optain this remarkable tone?

@Lustrum0005 well Pansonic had to drop the second "a" from their name, so there you go. Not only American corps care about their trademarks :P

I'm confused. Does the band make the amps? Did the band take their name from the amp company? What the fuck is going on?

Electric Wizard use old Sound City amps to get a similar tone. The Selmer Treble and bass can also get this sort of tone.
