@dreammachineking Have a look in the booklet. It's quite confusing, but once connected via USB, all the work is done through the computer not the Tascam.
So this is my first peice of recording equipment, this is a good buy for me right? I play acoustic, sing, and I plan to hook up my keyboard for drums and other neccesites.......Good for me?
@OnCatchingFire I'd say great for you but it's not as easy to work as it could be. Many of the principals of what you can do on it, are a bit tough going at first!
@ SeymourSnide: can you use HC (High Capacity) SD card on this unit? I'm planing to get one but if it doesn't support HC SD,... it would be a drawback..
@prammaven hahaha I know what you mean. I've been living out of a suitcase for the last 10 years, so I'm ready to go back home and start making music again. Things are different these days, aren't they? I sound old. hahaha
I like the new digital stuff that is coming out these days and want to incorporate it with my old school stuff back in MN. But, I'm not sure how. All I remember is how easy analog was as opposed to Protool, which I took as class for at UNLV. I got it down, but tape was fun.
@prammaven The thing for me is that I actually like a drum machine more that I use to back in the day. I use to hate that unnatural sound, too. But, it's been so long since I've played with a steady drummer (so much that I learned how to play drums). Plus, I've been listening to alot of newer music and early 90s shoegaze these days and realize that so many people are doing it anyways it wouldn't matter. I love natural sound, but what can you do these day? I still love tape, but these units rock.
@prammaven I use to listen to 60s and 70s rock for a while about 10 years ago when I got into recording (although I love Alternative rock, I'm in my 30s). I did alot of recording with Tascam cassette tape units and it was so easy. After a while I did some recording that people even though I did in a big studio. I just used tube and condenser mic. But, then I moved for the decade of my life and left that stuff behind. I want to get back into recording and can't wait to bust that stuff out.
@prammaven I think that is my main problem I've had with software recording. It's frustrating and I get so sick of it I gave up. My computer never get the latency problems worked out. I guess Mac is the only way to go. But, that another $1000+ I would have to spend. I'm glad I never sold my tape stuff, but it's all in MN. The only problem is that I live in Korea right now and after 10 years am itching to do some recordings again. But, get a tube preamp for sure and you won't be disappointed.
@prammaven I don't actually have one of these units myself, but would think that the same principal would apply to this that I use to use on my old Tascam 4 track tape units. I found that use to get a lot of hum from those units as well if I plugged in directly. But, I'm in to 60s music a lot when they used mics for everything. I may have to get one of these myself because I live in Asia and want to record again. But, I would still throw down for a decent tube preamp. They warm up the sound.
@prammaven There is a hum, but it's not tape hiss. I think it may be from the instrument itself. That's why I don't like to plug in instruments such as guitars. I get way better results miking everything up.
They've updated the firmware to fix the tuner and include some additional preamp levels to choose from. If you go to the tascam site, you can download the latest firmware and it fixes most of that. Still no EQ, effects or DM though...
your comment on the eq made me lol :)
