You definitely left out some of the best songs (Mother, Working Class Hero, God) and included a song that's not even on the album (Power To The People was only a single, released after this album)
"I don't think that album sold more than 'McCartney' or 'Band on the Run'. We took a chance, in a way. But it was not a calculated chance. John couldn't be what he wasn't."--Yoko Ono re: the Plastic Ono Band album
This is a truly amazing album which is full of raw emotion- no matter how many times I hear it, tears flow and goosebumps appear. John was such an awesome talent and is sorely missed.
im not quite a hippy.. i listen to this music and get mad, so i want you to know I would beat the shit out of you and then pretend I was all groovy for that ono bit. keep your f*cking mouth shut.
Power to the People is the weakest on the album.. (Only put on as a bonus track) and even John hated it later on! The other bonus track, Do the oz is decent though. Love is amazing.
@StevieWonder501. Yeah, it's not only the best Lennon album, but one of the best albums of the last 50 years. The words, the music, the minimalism. It has it all. And then the context, ie the break-up of the Beatles. Magical.
Love it! Yoko did an album to John with them reversed in this album photo and Yoko as a child on the back. Hard to find but worth it if you love them.
This is John's greatest solo album, even better than Imagine. It's so brutal, morbid and most of all honest. He put it out at the time that the Beatles were breaking up and just spewed out eight years of stress and anger that he'd kept inside of him. You can tell where the likes of Lenny Kravitz, Jet, Joe Strummer and John Lydon have got their inspiration from.
I've just aquired a copy of this album after first learning about it through a friend way back in 1996 when i was in uni. Sometimes an artist will grow on you overtime and suddenly U realise that you have to scratch that itch...12 years is a long time to itch. I've always been a Beatles fan however I've always admired John in terms of his creativity and 'angst' in a way immediate post beatle angst. I also admire his corage in outing his frustration with organised religon, giving a voice to those

What a Band: John Lennon, Ringo Starr, Klaus Voorman and a little Billy Preston! This is Lennon at his best!

Everything is the best on the album, in my opinion. One of the few almost-perfect records out there. Aww what the heck, it is perfect!
