I forgot to mention that they did not use either the revolving license plate or broom sweeper on any episodes either.I always found the broom sweeper an odd device for the Black Beauty.They did not have to worry about sweeping away tracks left by the BB in snow,the show was shot in California.I guess it could work on dirt roads if the situation warranted it.It just doesn't seem like it would be a function they would need to utilize much at all.
I know on the episode "Deadline For Death" the Black Beauty emitted a smokescreen to prevent a private jet from taking off. They never showed the rear nozzle extending outward to perform this function.So I always assumed that the smokescreen was released in some other manner. But perhaps they simply edited the rear nozzle extension scene out,or never even filmed it.When Van referred to it as a gas/oil gun,I took that literally thinking that the gas was a knockout gas & not smoke.
