I have been riding in Clear Creek since I was 10, I am now 44 and have no signs of any health issues whatsoever. Leave it beurocrats and bullshit health agency reports to make claims that have nothing to back up their claims. I have riden in Clear Creek every year and this is bullshit.
@2204Alpha. True that!!! This is fucking rediculous. I say just put up a sign that says ride at ur own risk. Don't close the whole park just because some Obama loving tree hugers don't like it. Fuck that!!!
You folks know nothing about the science. How can you say there are no confirmed cases of lung cancer -- have you interviewed all 1000 people? Also, one cancer caused by asbestos --mesothelioma -- takes over 30 years to gestate, and occurs in 1 in a million. But since it is incurable, it is a really nasty cancer. There are three massive open pit asbestos mines on this property, including one superfund site that will never go away. You should all say thank you.
Let me ask you.. do you have any proof there HAS BEEN any cases of mesothelioma from recreating at Clear Creek? People have been riding there for over 60 years and there is way more than 1000 prople that have recreated there and worked there in the mines and no one can produce one case.
The type of asbestos that is there is all over California, you can see it all over the place driving down the hwy, it's probably in your backyard too!
@Heck1er I use to hunt in the Paicines Valley near New Idria, some of the locals I befriended told me stories of the mines and their relatives worked the mines. Most all of those who worked the mines died of "consumption" which was the term used for cancer prior to the scientific explanation. Asbestos was so prevalent in the air that, prior to the mines shutting down, the workers were suppose to wear air filtration packs. Most did not wear them and died.Locals don't go to the mines.
Hey leave the Pot growers alone Aholes move to kentucky if you dont like pto LEGALIZE it and there wont be a problem oh yeah and lets hope this place reopens bhrapp!
I was there May 28th, 2008, near San Benito, looking for benitoite not for offroading trails. However, I am equally upset about the closing because I'm a geologist who is interested in the mineralogy and gems located there. Be careful however, there are many illegal marijuana growing operations in the backwoods of this area and pose any danger to someone who unwittingly comes upon them
Thanks for the heads up pajiad191, we actually report them to the BLM when we come across them. Seems like the place is going to be a haven for the pot growers now! And BLM wont do anything about it!
yea for sure, with the closure theres going to be even less traffic through the area than usual, those addled out drugheads dont care, or even know about asbestos, nothings gonna stop them
Not one confirmed cancer case among thousands of people who have been riding there for over 30 years. I believe the EPA's research to be a bit flawed. I think they say that one out of 100 are likely to get cancer if exposed more than 12 days per year. Bullsh...!
I smoke a pack a day and smoke an 8th of pot every other day; I aint worried about no damn abestos man!!!

this is what all you doofs in CA get for electing the most liberal people to congress who support the radical ideas of the EPA.

Have YOU interviewed 1000 people?
And you state:
"But since it is incurable, it is a really nasty cancer"
Have you found a cure for cancer? I think the world would like to know about it...
No one is forcing us to go there, we make own own choices given the acknowledged health risks
