After they got most of the bugs resolved, I thought this was the best TW since ROME, and I like it better then Shogun 2 (except for the multiplayer campaign availability).

Napoleon has a shorter timeline and fewer factions. In Napoleon you can only play as Britain, France, Austria, Prussia. It is also limited only to Europe.

In Empire you can play as USA, Maratta Confederacy (Indians), Spain, Britain, France, Russia, Sweden, Prussia, Austria, Poland-Lithuania, Ottoman Empire, and the Netherlands in three different continents (Asia, the Americas, and Europe).

However Empire is set in the 1700s while Napoleon Is from 1810-1815 (I think).

I really like Total War games. And the Napoleon Total War release was great. But I've found that a lot of the tactics are more based on abstractions in the "Game" rather than real-life tactics.

Even though the eye-candy may not be as great, I prefer the Combat Mission games ... especially the new Combat Mission:Normandy series. .... It is just pure real-life WWII tactics.

@mcturky It depends on how much money you have, or want to spend. Shogun 2 is around 100 US dollars, and Empire Total War is around 30 US dollars (Around that; I'm Australian, and I'm just working off the currency converter).

WW2:TW would be silly.

20th century warfare, politics and economics was completely different than anything seen in TW games. It just doesn't fit the Total War formula (turn based strategy + real time battles)

There are several good WW2 strategy games anyway. Try Hearts of Iron 3.

The next Total War game should be Rome 2.

@Redjoker96 it depends, which history do you like better, european or japan? Shogun2 doesnt have as many enviroments or factions as Empire and can getting boring after a while because of it. As its all set in one country. But it has better graphics & larger armies and gets the fundamentals right.

@TheJANTT When you command the ships to create a line you'll sometimes have two or more ships side by side trying to get into position, and even when they've long passed their designated placement, they'll continue to race side by side trying to pass in front of each other instead of slowing down and allowing the other ship to pass. I had ship go long distances with one trying to turn right and the other left and they always seem to try turning to the side the other ship is on.

I love the Total War gaes.

There are so many eras and areas they could focus on in future installments.

We could have one based on the warring states of Italy during the Medieval or Rennaisance periods. The city-states of ancient Greece. Hell, if the manage to successfully incorporate rapid-fire guns and tanks into the games we may even have games set in the two world wars at some point.

Empire total war: is a truly well worked game. It has all the elements of a true empire building game such as: taxes, factions, troop types and is also very fun and strategic.

AOE: on the other hand is a bit like Civilization. It's not on the same level with Empire and is inferior in terms of graphics and the realistic aspect of the game.
