@Martaan66 good job vs my buckeyes. Michigan was the better team this year, and they also got a good 10-2 record. i have highlights of yesterday's game on my page.
the good ole days. Before fuckin Rich Rodriguez ruined Michigan football. Thanks you jerk. No wonder West Virginia was only too eager to get rid of you.
The scoreline in this game was payback for all the times Houston was RUTS on everybody over the past few years. As the old saying goes, what goes around, comes around!
ty law had a great career but so did lamar smith and allen aldridge went on to have 2 superbowl rings with the broncos so even though as a whole the game was lopsided u of h had some good individual players and as you can see donnie avery was the first receiver drafted in last years draft !the coogs had to get rid of the nonsense coaches and now in 09 we would roll Michigan up!Michigan sux!
lol dude houston doesnt hold a candle to michigan, michigan has had 2 horrible years and u've had 2 decent, our recruiting shits all over you as does our tradition, the winningest program of all time i might add..
John Jenkins was outcoached in that game and the cougar line was overmatched and d line was overmatched if you did see the game there were some good players on the u of h squad that actually went on to be good players in the nfl and cfl but out of the u of h team there were but a handful of really good players the rest were mediocre and it showed in the game.....i was a big fan of ryan mccoy, allen aldridge, lamar smith,Donald Douglas and keith jack and freddie gilbert.....
I am a Houston graduate, and I like Michigan as well. To be honest, forget about BCS and Non-BCS for a moment. It almost seems that the two programs have taken a complete reversal of fortune.....at least for the time being. We are talked about to SOME extent on a national level now and Michigan is rarely heard of anymore. But they will be back sooner or later because they are Michigan.
8:14. I like L Carr, but it is a shame that things did not work out for G Moeller. He transitioned the program the right way. I almost forgot that it was he that moved Reimersma to tight end. He throws a td to Amani Toomer at 8:14....
Alexander wore #40 when he redshirted in 1989. But he wore the #1 the rest of his career. There was no "earning it." Braylon was the only one to do that. Carter, McMurtry, Alexander, Butterfield and Terrell all got it without earning it....
Georgia Tech had a grudge with Cumberland over them using ringers in baseball, so they ran up the score in the football game. But Heisman actually had the game end a few minutes early so it wouldn't get much more out of hand than that.
hey mr historian i have a very speical request can you upload the 2003 game vs houston it was my first game at the big house thanks i really would like that
Hey great post. Do you by chance still have a copy of the Michigan's 58-0 victory over Indiana in 2000? That was a fun lopsided win and it was the first game I got to see in person.
I was pretty young at the time this game was played so I don't remember. But I've read that Houston took great delight in humiliating opponents in the Southwest Conference back in those days.
Just 2 years prior, they threw seven 4th Quarter TD's in a crushing defeat of Southern Methodist 95-21. Many lopsided scores in those days and this time, they knew what it felt like.
That was the end of the dominance of Houston football. It wasn't until about 5 or 6 years ago that they were winning again under Art Briles. Houston was 1-9-1 that year. Oh, the third-string QB for Michigan (#13) was Jason Carr, son of Lloyd Carr. Lloyd was an assistant back then.
You're right. Houston is still recovering. Who knows? If they can win the Conference USA title again this season, they may prove to be getting back on their feet again. With hires like Kim Helton and Dana Dimel they completely crushed the program.
Kevin Sumlin is a good coach though, and Bob Stoops knows it.
@WolverineHistorian 1 year after the death penalty for football as well...This year though I honestly think michigan would destroy houston, which i would not mind seeing. please put up 90.
Houston deserved what happened that day. It was a couple years before that they ran it up on SMU 95-21, and kept going for the home run all game even though they were up like 42-0 in the first quarter. I think that was the year after they came off the death penalty.
@commodorefan2 correct. Andre Ware was 25-41 for 517 yards and 5 pass TDs in the 2nd quarter. At that point it was 59-14 Houston. David Klingler threw 20 passes (12 for those being deep passes). they had a grand total of 1021 yards (771 passing and 250 rushing). 14 of the players on SMU in that game were freshmen.
@commodorefan2 SMU coach Forrest Gregg said, "I'd never run up the score like that on a group of freshmen and sophomores. I hope they're really proud of their accomplishment. It was a sad day for college football."
thanks for correcting me. Say, did you get that message I sent you regarding Michigans 2008 season. I really wish fans like you and parkinggod weren't so negative (c'mon, Michigan will win at least 10 games in 2008 barring injury)
Yep, it just wouldn't be college football with out him, he isn't my favorite but I like him a lot better than when he Dan Fouts did games UGh! Dick Vermiel was okay. I'll always miss Kieth Jackson though, he was my favorite.
5 straight turnovers in Illinois territory taking the game to halftime. Over 300 yards of offense in the first half but only 7 points on the score board. The team was shaken and never the same after that leading to the tie.
Also, the weather was absolutely horrible that day. It was snowing all over the place and no one could hang onto the ball. In good weather, we'd have won big.

houston put up 73 on Tulane a couple weeks ago. They put up 73 against Rice as well.

At least Michigan didnt completly run up the score. Like the Georgia Tech Vs. Cumberland College game of 1916 when the score was 222-0 GT win.

Houston was kind of a cocky, fling-the-ball-all-over the field kind of team back then. Needless to say, they were a little overmatched that day.

How did you feel about Houston? Did you think they'd put up a fight, or did you see a rout?
