Best Steve Hackett albums: (tough question)..'the tokyo tapes' (both audio & video). With that they do 'In this quiet earth'. 2) any one of the first 4 albums. Each one has their respective gems. 3) best acoustic. probably Bay of Kings. or Momentum. If he ever plays near you he is worth seeing..Great guitarist with band & lyrics to crush you with, with a smile on his/your face.
GREAT TO HEAR THIS TRACK LIVE! They seem to have remained very close to the studio version as I recall. Sometimes live versions of LP/CD tracks can be vastly different -and in a positive way sometimes!
A little enhancing (avoiding the term processing!) might be beneficial as there seems to be an excess of midrange & top end with cymbals overly prominent drowning out the rest So enhancing the almost inaudible bass would be good! (just a thought TommyGunn1028)!
@swinetrek Not only that, the Seconds Out recording isn't even the complete show (and the setlist isn't in the right order, either)! The Live in Zurich 1977 recording is far superior.
they blew my mind in 1983, I had no expectations because my brother popped up with an extra ticket just days before the show...been a fan ever since. they broke up way too soon....
The Lamb is the BEST!! I was reading in Gabriel's biography recently that Peter wanted to make a movie of the Lamb, and it couldn't get funded. It would have made a great movie, or animated movie. I love the Lamb. It's like a surreal dream / nightmare. (with a soundtrack!)
I saw them do this song in Detroit in April, '76. I'll never forget seeing Banks crack a rare smile around the 3:10 mark or Hackett marching in step in his knee-high boots around the 3:20 mark. Great show, fantastic performance. Who does music like this anymore???
Indistinguishable blend of guitar and keyboard sound....perfect mesh! This shit is live? Gorgeous! Anyone who says Genesis sucked after Peter Gabriel left doesn't understand the power of pure instrumental music!!!
behind the lines, dutchess, guide vocal, dukes travels, dukes end .there last great album in my opinion.great progressive songs, great haunting ballads, pop songs with substance.if misunderstanding came out today people would be wowed
Sometimes I forget that after Peter left, it still was the SAME BAND that played behind Peter! And they were great. They certainly were brave to go on like they did, and Phil definetely was brave to take over singing.
@pazzensutra we are the real lovers of the band... nobody of us has forgotten Peter ... EVEN THAT YOU INTERPRETED ABSOLUTELY MY THOUGTS ABOUT PHIL... GENESIS CONTINUE BEING THE SAME BAND...
While his other solo recordings from the 70's may have merits, "Voyage of the Acolyte" is the most adventurous, truley one of the classic art rock records of the 70's, his other solo material from that time simply is not on that level. It was his 1st solo record, and kind of his answer to The Lamb which he was not too keen on."Voyage of the Acolyte" is kind of a masterpiece, so, if you don't think that much of his other previously mentioned records, definately check out "Voyage..."
if truth be told i was at this concert.i was working in lucerne nearby for the summer.this was the first time i saw them-words fail me ;the quality of the music is amazeing....
My favorite is Voyage of the Acolyte which he actually released while still w/Genesis in 1975. His first post-Genesis album is Please Don't Touch released in 1978. Do a google search of "steve hackett" wikipedia to find out more about his solo career. Then you can take it from there
Yep the 77 tour is my very favorite. Rainbow Jan 1,2,3, Southampton Jan 20th, Brazil and Zurich (both the "old" and the assembled Digita Bros vesrion) - this is what is sadly missing on the Seconds Out Album, but I understand the decision at the time to leave out almost all Wind and W. - even though the live performances beat the studio versions by miles - even "All in a Mouses' Night", dropped early during the tour. Where Tony is unable to switch fast enough from choir to violins on his M400...
Do you have any knowledge WHY they left out all W & W stuff? I´m actually quiet a Genesis fan but i never heard about one certain reason they left out the W&W-stuff.
It's the ABSOLUTE BEST of Genesis in 1977, before Steve made his exit!! Steve was so fucking important to the band's sound - and, to this day, he is sorely missed. Not to diss, Daryll Steurmer, he does the best he can with Steve's material, but it was NEVER as good as Steve playing with Genesis!! In fact - NOT EVEN CLOSE!
The visuals are interesting but cannot keep up with old Genesis taking flight! Young guys out there, you have to try and imagine how this stuff just blew our heads off when it was performed brand new 30 years ago.
First discovered the guys 85ish with nursery cryme, blew me away, been the same since. couple of mates, like me 40ish, like green day and fountains of wayne etc, which is fair enough but honestly i couldn't give a monkeys about all that stuff cos it'll never be a patch on this, and i'm not sure if anything, in the last ten years comes close.
Unbelievable! What an absolutely incredible performance. Thank you for sharing. I've listening to this so many times already. There's a slight change in the harmonics at the beginning that makes this version so outstanding! What a great band!
theres no doubt genesis are the best band in the world as they can make any type of song about anything, there is magic in every song they have made, the only bad song they have ever made was WHO DUNNIT and i even like that one, people simply dont give them enough credit. i do believe they are better than the beatles lol
Qeen? I mean I'm a big fan of their early music but how can you even mention both bands in teh sam breath? Add ELP and Yes 'in the pack'. Even if they also were so different. And so great in so different ways. I just love prog rock...
The section of Blood on the Rooftops where Phil is actually singing... i learned this on piano with a sorta jazz flair.... fun to play cuz it's all Tony Banks genius... i will never understand why more Genesis fans don't give Tony mad props. Anyway, i'll make a vid of me playing this song on piano if enuf people ask me to.
Yep. 1977 Wind and Wuthering Tour. IMHO the best. The Zurich bootleg (soundboard) is one of the best from this tour. Check Genesis Trade Yahoo groups. On the original 2 LP Seconds Out no songs from the "Wind" album except Afterglow were incluided. Seconds also includes Cinema Show from the 1976 tour with Bill Bruford on drums.
I got this song on my platimun collection of Genesis music it continues into afterglow where Phil Sings unlike this song he doesn't sing at all for the entire song
Hmmm. Perhaps it sounds like noise because you simply do not hear what is there, what others hear. That should make you curious about knowing and hearing more.
