Sea Lord really made the jump from handicapper to patent stakes class pretty quickly. Without question, Sea Lord's career best is still has win over G1 winner, Poet's Voice, in the G3 Sovereign Stakes at Salisbury in 2010. He was in a bit over his head though in the G1 Irish Champion Stakes against the likes of Cape Blanco, Rip Van Winkle, and Twice Over. I thought Sea Lord would actually run a little better at Meydan than he did during the 2011 Dubai Carnival?
Sea Lord has won his last 4 mile races in a row. 3 of them in the handicap division. With the 4th a G3 Stakes win. Winning the Double Millionaire Handicap at the Curragh. The 32redCasino Handicap at Newmarket. Winning this race at Goodwood. Then holding off Poet's Voice at Salisbury in G3 Sovereign Stakes. Sea Lord is terrific colt. That really knows how to dig down and hold off the competition. Time to get this colt out of the handicap division and racing in group stakes company regularly.
You really have to admire the way Sea Lord really dug in and refused to let Invisible Man get by him. Just when it looked like Invisible Man was poised to go right on by Sea Lord, he did a great job of pulling out more to get home first.
