I bought a new 2002 Honda Accord because it was rated number one in it's price class by Consumer Reports. A few years later after researching the Toyota Prius I bought a new one. I love my 2005 Prius, it is fast and fun to drive. The car is flawless. I will definitely buy a plug in when they offer it.
I will buy American when they decide to compete and build good cars again. Simply make a car that gets better mileage and has higher ratings than Toyota. 75mpg? 100? We know it can be done...

I test drove a slightly used Prius yesterday. 4 miles of city streets at about 40mph, 3-4 lights and a 1.5 mile stretch of highway. The car's computer said I got only 35.6 mpg for that entire trip.

Have you even ever driven and lived with a Prius? I've hauled almost 8 foot lumber with the back seats folded down(with the hatch closed) I also have a 05 4Runner which is a SUV and the Prius is just as big and feels even roomier. Both interior cu. ft. capaciites on my 4Runner and Prius are about 103 cu ft. putting them exactly the same room. Not bad interior size for a vehicle that gets 50mpg. The Prius may not be big to you, but its no compact or mid size car by any means, plenty of room.
And BTW, I think the Prius is a totally kick ass car. Its freaking huge inside and gets 50mpg. In a 2009 Prius I hauled 40 Cinderblocks and it drove fine even up hills and I averaged 38mpg.
I actually thought of the roof having solar panells to power the air conditioning a long time ago. I always qondered if they were gonna do that. Just goes to show you even an average joe could think up somthing long before it goes main stream

the solar panel roof would power the ventilation fan ONLY (and probably slowly) not the AC compressor! that would require panels many times the footprint of the car. So you go from a car that you could cook food in, to a car you can sort of tolerate for a few minutes.

US name brand cars like Buick,Chevy, All Ford, have been and continue to be great cars, there's a nice feeling about those US cars now, Mercedes is still having reliability issues for its over priced cars.
Toyota is still,as it has been getting into quality issues too. BMW seems to avoid issues,but are over priced for what it offers.

My 06 Prius is awesome! I can get roughly the original EPA estimates. 60 mpg in city is very tough to maintain. On one single tank I went 715 miles before I ran out of gas with the 11.9 gallon tank and was forced to stop. I can just imagine how well I can do with the New Prius

I think it's kind of sad that people build up the prius like it's more 'environmentally friendly' than other autos. Take the Hummer, for example. It would take manufacturing more than two priuses to last as long as one manufatured Hummer, which exceeds the carbon emissions of one Hummer's manufacturing plus driving it for its life. Not to mention, the priuses battery is more toxic than any carbon emissions.

US name brand cars like Buick,Chevy, All Ford, have been and continue to be great cars, there's a nice feeling about those US cars now, Mercedes is still having reliability issues for its over priced cars.
Toyota is still,as it has been getting into quality issues too. BMW seems to avoid issues,but are over priced for what it offers.

good mpg's on the prius...but thank god i still have my american made 77 f150 that gets about 11mpg's ...there aint nothing like a big gas guzzlin, air poluting american V8 ,,makes me want to go out now and let it idle for a few hour's ..i wood never lower my standards

My 06 Prius is awesome! I can get roughly the original EPA estimates. 60 mpg in city is very tough to maintain. On one single tank I went 715 miles before I ran out of gas with the 11.9 gallon tank and was forced to stop. I can just imagine how well I can do with the New Prius

I think it's kind of sad that people build up the prius like it's more 'environmentally friendly' than other autos. Take the Hummer, for example. It would take manufacturing more than two priuses to last as long as one manufatured Hummer, which exceeds the carbon emissions of one Hummer's manufacturing plus driving it for its life. Not to mention, the priuses battery is more toxic than any carbon emissions.
