What flute do you use? Can you recommend a good brand that has flutes for about 30-50€? Right now I'm using a Waltons that I bought for 4€ but I really need a better one to hit those high notes! ^^
I've got a tunable Tony Dixon, they're affordable and waaaay better than generation's or waltons. They might not be the best yet but you'll get somewhere with a dixon.
Hey Mic! Great playing! Very inspiring!!! What type of a whistle is that?? I'm beginner and REALLY want to learn the whistle. Would be great if I get some feedback and support from you experts. Thanks again!!!
Hi Micheal, well done on your tutorials they are very good. I have only just discovered YouTube and it's BILLIANT. can you recommand a simple tutor book that i could buy that will have loads of tune in to learn from.
This is great, I've actually managed to (almost) learn it in a couple of days of hard work, still have trouble in the C section ornaments, but I'm working it out.
This may seem unrelated, but I could really use some good advice, as I practice in my bedroom, going to the high Gs tends to piss off my flatmate. What are good ways to keep the sound down a bit? Any suggestion appreciated
Other than that, great job on teaching this tune, I'm having a hell of a time learning with you. Thanks Michael!
Fantastic great to play along with , did you ever hear the Boys of Ballysodare it in the Frank Edgely Tutuorial cds and book , goes very well after that one, also a fig for a kiss , another classic good job Keep on Teaching
I wonder if you could do a video on specific techniques as opposed to actual songs as I write my own whistle music but need teaching in technique. Do you ever use your tongue to triple the notes?
Yup, I play the fiddle but it's not to hear where I can put in more rolls and stuff. I sent the link to my friend Mike who plays the tin whistle. Good stuff!
What was that little "wave" thing you did at the beginning of part C in at the faster tempo? Was that vibrato?
Susq15 1 year ago
@Susq15 Watching the video, I'm not sure what I did there. :-) Most likely finger vibrato because I didn't play the B roll that time.

I think it's a Burke whistle.
Try Susato, it depends of the cane of souds you want.
Susato is louder than a dixon but I think the best way to choose your whistle is trying many different whistles.
PS: Sorry if my English is bad, i'm French.

the articulation is fantastic! I've known how to play lesser versions of the song, but this one is by far the most fun! And challenging to!! :)

hello micheal!
thank you very much for your tutorials! I have learnt a lot of tunes with your help!
I have some problems with trills, do you know some place we can learn about it?
thank you again :)
mabelbird 3 years ago
Problems with what? Trills are just placing and removing your finger on the note below several times fast, if that's what you mean :)

Hello, very nice way to play the butterfly :)
One question for playing in a session: Are there three different parts in this tune? And how often should I repeat every part?
Greetings from Germany :)
Lissuin07 3 years ago
There are three parts to the tune, each part is played once. Cheers, Michael

To quiet a whistle, here's a simple trick:
Stick a small paper clip in fipple so that it disrupts the airflow between where the air comes out of the windway and the edge of the blade.

Hecate42 4 years ago
Hi Hecate42,
These videos are more focused on teaching tunes than technique. I highly recommend RyanDunsSJ's videos for learning technique.
I very rarely use double, much less triple tonguing in traditional Irish whistle or flute playing.
Cheers,
Michael

Great job on all these. I'm just learning and you've picked great tunes. Thanks very much. The Bothy Band do a great version of this tune.
