People who call red wings fans bandwagoners are on fucking crack lol seriously. And this is embarrassing red wings fans taking over the Honda center. Awesome!!
@gallegs7 lmao really the eighties who gives a shit i guarentee. if ur team was as bad as the wings in the 80's it would be the same. yeah they were pathetic in the 80's but were bandwagoners? i dnt think so. we have been around since 1926 dumbass. michigan is the top hockey state. we live and die with the wings. ur fucking stupid. just shut up.u havent been here and u dont the know the passion peopoe have for the red wings here.
@juwarriors08 WRONG. I am a fan of every team that plays against the Redwings. redwings suck! Beaten by the Sharks 2 years in a row now. My god, people should be embarrassed by now being a redwings fan. I don't give a shit about the past cups... That was years ago, so don't give me any shit about 20 straight playoff appearances... etc. I hate the redwings and all you bandwagon fans.
@BillSteer99 so you think redwings fans are bandwagoners? that just shows how ignorant and dumb you are. people in detroit have ALWAYS loved the wings, regardless of if they play well or not, but it just so happens that theyve been good for over 20 straight years. you call that bandwagoning? just look at pittsburgh. they have mario and jagir for a couple of years, win a couple championships, and then lose their best players because they cant afford them. the team then sucks and their attendence
@gallegs7 ummm......just one question. how can there be 40,000 season ticket holders when the joe seats 20,000? and if attendance was as bad as you say it was, why didnt the wings leave and go somewhere else?
@juwarriors08 i don't know where you got your info dude. i don't need to answer any questions. Go look up the history and the attendance. See how many season ticket holders the wings had when Mike Ilitch bought the team. Look how even now with a great team they don't sell out every game. I cant answer your questions because your facts are just wrong. 40000 season ticket holders? my question then is why aren't all the games considered sell outs?
@gallegs7 i never said there were that many season ticket holders. i was asking you how there can have 40,000 season ticket holders for an arena that seats 20,000. and have you been to detroit lately (i doubt it; youve prbly never spent more then a couple days here)? the fact that people who are in an incredibly awful economic situation (I live in detroit so i know this all too well) are able to consistently sell out the joe (not every game, but most games) is a miracle in and of itself
@juwarriors08 yes i agree that is great how passionate Detroit is about hockey. All i am saying is don't think your team is soooooo much better then everyone else. This is a dick thing to say but lets face it. Detroit's population has gone down. People are getting jobs out west. That is why you see soooo many wings fans at other games. Yes they are a popular team, but if they weren't as good you wouldn't see that many wings fans in these arenas.
@BillSteer99 to the bottom of the league. all of the sudden they draft crosby and malkin and all their fans start coming back to the games. funny how that works......
Red Wings fans even invade St. Paul in full force when they play the Wild there but I have never had any problems with their fans. They're actually really fun fans to be around, they don't get annoying they just cheer their team on & they're very knowledgeable fans as well.
@gallegs7 Honestly, nobody really that lives in the city goes to see the Red Wings. Most Wings fans come from the burbs, which has shown some growth. The attendance at home is 98.5% capacity, and 5th in the league.
@gallegs7 Really the Red Wings cant fill their own rink? LMAO thats the funniest thing I've heard all week, have you ever been to the Joe?... Didnt think so your probably too afraid of getting your ass kicked you pussy.
@JRPuertoRico yeah i have been to the JOe. Played at the Joe, and all you have to do is look at the attendance records. And better yet go look at the attendance records when the team was terrible back in the 80s. terrible.
@gallegs7 So the attendance record was bad 30 years ago and your basing your argument on that your a waste of time and an argument its all good though the Wings will continue to be one of the dominant power houses in the NHL for many years to come.
@JRPuertoRico yeah we will see in 3 years. I doubt there is another Lidstrom waiting in the minors, or another datsyuk waiting in the 7th round. You keep that dream.
@gallegs7 You obviously dont know about the talent they have in their farm teams and the young talent such as helm, erickson and abdelkader and datsyuk and zetterberd have way more than 3 years left idk what your talking about not to mention the talk of picking up corey perry, I'd say we have nothing to worry about.
@JRPuertoRico You honestly think there is another Lidstrom waiting in the minors?Datsyuk has plenty more years in him but after that its pretty hard to believe there is someone in your system who is as good as him and will be able to replace him
@gallegs7 How many consecutive years have the Wings been in the playoffs now? You think that streak is going to end anytime soon? Don't bet on it. You don't have a playoff streak that long without having a smart GM who knows who to go after. Datsyuk wasn't even a 1st-round pick. He was a 6th-round pick. Zetterberg was a 7th-round pick. Datsyuk isn't going anywhere and Zetterberg is signed through 2020. The Wings are going to be a playoff team for many years to come.
There is a reason they are everywhere, they made the rational decision of leaving Detroit because they knew it sucked, though for some reason, they still support there crumbled city.
@NoneOfMyBusiness1 Seriously, there like fucking red sox fans, there everywhere. Even if there damn team is 5000 miles away and they have no association with that city
For the people saying that those are bandwagon fans, what kind of bandwagon fans would travel across the entire country to see their team play? We just have so much pride in our teams. GO WINGS
the 2nd part of that defines a bandwagon fan. as for the first part, i live in NJ, my uncle lives in Detroit. He made sure we got to see the Wings play all the time. I was raised a Wings fan, been one all my life...does that make me a bandwagon fan? not picking a fight here, just saying. i know people here who are Blues fans, Sharks fans and so forth.
Theres no point in all this useless drama about which team is better. Teams have their highs and lows like the ducks are in the basement but its not like detroit has never had a bad game, same with all other teams in the NHL.
It's not that the ducks don't have a loyal fanbase. It's just that it isn't as large as the red wings. the red wings have a rich history and tradition that dates back over 70 years. The Ducks have been around since '93. I wonder which fan base is going to be larger? Look at the leafs. They suck some serious ass, but the have the largest revenue of any hockey market. Because they have a history that dates back 90 years.
Montreal is the epicenter of hockey, I'd love to attend a game there. IMO no one can challenge Canada as far as fan bases go, simply because hockey was born there. Coming in a close second are fans of any Original Six team.
@newavehaircut Their revenue is really good in Toronto. But like alot of people have said before,Detroit is one of the majors reasons there was a salary cap in the NHL.You can also throw in the Rangers,Flyers, and Leafs as well. The Redwings were simply like the Yankees back in the day, when they wanted any player, they just went out and got him.I mean that 2001-02 team was probably the only time you ever saw that many all-stars/hall of famers on one team win a championship in one season like that.
as much as i like the ducks, i gotta say california is not very good of a hockey maeket. anaheim is mostly a place for tourism and nobody gives a shit to be sitting inside watching a hockey game when its nice weather year round. the ducks are a great team but theres really no loyal fanbase that you would have in canada or the northeastern united states.
And that's just the nosebleeds. There weren't many in lower sections. You pussies come in groups cuz you afraid to come alone. FUCKING COCKSUCKERS!!! EAT IT!!!
Because no one likes the ducks, because they SUCKKK! So no one wants to go see their home team lose, personally i am from Detroit and live in Californiaa, but im still a Wings fann all the wattt.
The Detroit Red Wing are winning the Stanley cupp.!!!!! WHOOOOO!!!
loss? and HAHA they suck? why did it go to game 7? why have they won the cup? Why are they one of the better teams? why have they made the playoffs last 4 or 5 seasons? yupp they suck...LMAO
HAAAAAA YA RIGHT THE REDWINGS DOOOO SELL OUT THEIR GAMES AND OOOOBOOHOOO THE DUCKS LOST byby ducks have a nice summer LETS GO REDWINGS LETS GO!!!!!! btw i like the kings 2 and h8 the ducks!!
yea, well i would rathe be in detroit, where you can still watch some real hockey being played....we won the series even with all of your shitty calls
We actually do sell out every game. Each ticket is sold. The ones you see empty are season ticket holders(mostly companys) who never go or dont give them away. When they try to sell them on stub hub, they ask for $250+ which is ridiculous. A Detroit radio station did a poll in Anaheim to see who knew who the Ducks were over the phone randomly. They got a total of 10 people out of 100 who knew who they were and still thought they were the mighty ducks. Shows how many people like hockey in cali.
Finally... Someone who understands the real meaning of "sell out" in sports.
As for your second point where you mentioned that no one who knew the Ducks were... SoCal is all about baseball, football, and basketball... They don't give two shits about a predominantly Canadian, Mid-Western, or Northeastern sport. Look at a map: There are only six NHL franchises east of the Mississippi and south of the Canadian border (not counting the Blues and Wild, as they play right on the M.R.).
Detroit has a season ticket base of over 16,000, allowing for only 4,000 Day of Game tickets. The empty seats you see are some of those season ticket holders (usually corporations) that blow off the game. "Sell Out" doesn't necessarily mean that every seat is filled.
Note: Detroit fans are so loyal that they continue to spend their hard earned money on tickets even during a recession.
Also Joe Louis Arena is one of, if not the largest arena in the NHL, it seats 21,000 is I'm not mistaken, whereas all other arenas seat between 18 and 19 thousand.
I have season Club seats for the Ducks-last 5 years. Wings fans are okay (Sharks fans suck) but the reason there are so many Detroit-tucky fans is that they all wanted to LEAVE Detroit. GO DUCKS!
If you mean taking over by, getting drunk and starting fights, and attempting to destroy the stadium, then yes, you guys took over. I saw a whole lot of bang wagon fans.
I talked to a few fans who had no fucking idea what they were talking about.
1. You talked to "a few" fans, it sounds about 50/50 capacity (honda center 17,000) So you talked 1/1700 (or .05%) of the Wings fans there (if you even talked to 10)
2. Where are your duck fans in "hockeytown" cuz i NEVER hear them???...kinda what i thought
Notice how nobody on the Anaheim bench was standing up and banging their sticks on the board like they usually do after a fight? It was because Kopecky had balls to go after a real big tough guy(not being sacastic)Beauchemin(sp.?) and got the crap beat out of him. Most guys would shy away from him. Kopecky doesnt get in fights. Even Don Cherry, the biggest european hater, said he liked Kopecky's heart for growing a pair and fighting a much more skilled fighter.
detroit is one of the original six hockey teams. yeah they are going to have alot of fans. i went to the thrashers game in march and there was more detroit fans then atlanta. go wings!
How to run a successful NHL team in Anaheim: Beg and plead the NHL to have the Sabres, Leafs, Canadiens, Rangers, Hawks and Wings to play @ Honda Center 41 times a year so that you can claim a sell out.
As of 3pm yesterday, tickets were STILL available for the game in Anaheim last night.
Or sign some great free agent players, develop some young talent, win a Stanley Cup and appear more playoff games than any other team in the past 5 years.
Sure, but one doesn't call itself HOCKEY TOWN. Anaheim has a small but loyal fan base. I like that it is a small market there. No one wants to be cliche.
"Small, but loyal fanbase... Small market... No one wants to be a cliche."
Since I'm not a Detroit fan, I'm not going to thumbs you down or say it was a bad comment...
You basically just described the Devils fanbase in a nutshell... We may have a small fanbase, but we're just as loyal and passionate as Hab or Wing fans... Oh, and as for the "cliche" part... Our team plays right outside of NYC, and as the Rangers are a New York team, they are a cliche right off the bat. :)
@pacmanghostx Why is it though with the Devils people were able to go and buy great seats during the Stanley Cup Finals right up until the puck dropped? The Rangers are N.Y. no doubt about that. But the one thing also the Devils need worry about is when the Flyers and even when Islanders are winning.Their fans do show up and fill up a dumpy old building. Can you imagine what it would be like for them if they were winning all the time and played in a state of the art building?
@WEINBAUER I don't know what you're talking about. I mean, yeah I do know people who tried to get "great seats" right before the puck drop back in 2003, but they weren't from the box office - They were from scalpers. A friend of mine; His older brother spent around $350 to sit in the second to last row in the upper corner of the old CAA twenty minutes before the puck drop. Those seats were practically on Mars.
As for your Flyers and Islanders comment, check my response to your other post...
no, the ducks pulled their goalie really early, with 2 and a half minutes left and the wings scored right away. After that a ton of ducks fans headed for the exits
I could hear during the highlights how many Red Wings fans there were. I was like DAMN there must be tons of Wings fans their, they were almost as loud as the Anaheim fans. Fuck the Ducks, they don't deserve a team.
it's pretty simple, if you have a team (let's just say in Anaheim) and you make the playoffs but you allow the other team's fans (let's say they are from Detroit) to dominate large sections of your home stadium because no one locally is buying out the place, then you do not deserve a team. The NHL is not about to expand and so the only way for a city to get a team is for one of the current ones to move. I live in Hartford, we lost our team because no one would go to games.
Anaheim actually sells out a lot of games, it is a combination of the bad economy (foreclosure rates in southern California are way higher than national average) and that Id venture to say that most of those fans wearing wings jerseys are So Cal natives who are just on the bandwagon.
That's exactly how it is in Jersey when we play the Rangers...
But I oft wonder...
Do Ranger fans just snatch up the seats to make the home fans look bad? Considering that every time we don't play the Rangers, it's a packed house with everyone in red, I would think so...
(Apologies for the random tangent that only had a little bit to do with what you said. :P)
@pacmanghostx Is it bad when the Flyers and Islanders come to town?Especially when the Islanders are doing good?I remember that easter game that went to overtime that got the Islanders in the playoffs.I watched it on Centerice an you would have thought it was an Islanders home game.
@WEINBAUER Yes - And that was the last time the Islanders fans have ever shown up in New Jersey. Hell, you actually see a lot more Devils fans out on Long Island than you do Isles fans in New Jersey now. The last Devils - Isles game I attended was a sellout crowd in Newark, and out of an announced 17,625, I'd say there was 500 Isles fans there. And that's being generous.
And Flyers fans, they're just loud and obnoxious. They NEVER take over the Prudential Center while they claim to. Ever.
This comment has received too many negative votesshow
You can't even sell out the place in the playoffs lol you know why? Because you play efficient, but boring European style hockey, because of all the damn Swedes on the team.
Times are hard in Detroit, people don't have the money to buy tickets. It is a lot cheaper to sit home and watch the games. Unless you understand the economy in Detroit, you shouldn't talk.
How to run a successful NHL team in Anaheim: Beg and plead the NHL to have the Sabres, Leafs, Canadiens, Rangers, Hawks and Wings to play @ Honda Center 41 times a year so that you can claim a sell out.

Detroit fans are all over the United States, Canada...and even into Sweden, Slovakia, Russia, and Finland. The Wings Nation is coming close to being he Wings World.
Resale tickets for the first or second round can be scored for dirt cheap anywhere.
I went to Game 1 of the Quarterfinals in Jersey vs. the Hurricanes, and I paid $27 to sit in the lower bowl in the 18th Row... When I got there, I was greeted by a sellout crowd with over 17,000 of the Devils' faithful going absolutely nuts.
(Oh, and BTW, the Wings "sell out" all the time... A sell out doesn't necessarily mean every seat is filled (which was the situation at the Devil game I mentioned above.))
I'm sure they just jumped on the bandwagon and laid down a couple hundred bucks for seats, transportation and jerseys...yup, that sounds likely. As opposed to you know, being fans of the most dominant American hockey franchise EVER.
HAHA its a couple hundred bucks just for the jersey let alone the tix...these are true wing fans...lets see how many duck fans are in the crowd at JLA on sunday..i bet ill be able to count them on one hand HAHA
And to gallegs7 that's why the wings sell out every game? u dumbass.

as much as i like the ducks, i gotta say california is not very good of a hockey maeket. anaheim is mostly a place for tourism and nobody gives a shit to be sitting inside watching a hockey game when its nice weather year round. the ducks are a great team but theres really no loyal fanbase that you would have in canada or the northeastern united states.

AnaheimDucks39 2 years ago
We actually do sell out every game. Each ticket is sold. The ones you see empty are season ticket holders(mostly companys) who never go or dont give them away. When they try to sell them on stub hub, they ask for $250+ which is ridiculous. A Detroit radio station did a poll in Anaheim to see who knew who the Ducks were over the phone randomly. They got a total of 10 people out of 100 who knew who they were and still thought they were the mighty ducks. Shows how many people like hockey in cali.
2010chubbs 2 years ago 2
Finally... Someone who understands the real meaning of "sell out" in sports.
As for your second point where you mentioned that no one who knew the Ducks were... SoCal is all about baseball, football, and basketball... They don't give two shits about a predominantly Canadian, Mid-Western, or Northeastern sport. Look at a map: There are only six NHL franchises east of the Mississippi and south of the Canadian border (not counting the Blues and Wild, as they play right on the M.R.).
pacmanghostx 2 years ago
they sell out, just some people can't go or sell their tickets
by the way, who won the series?

they also call it a recession and guess who is feeling it the worst? Michigan. Do you have any idea how expensive Wings tickets are?
barakari 2 years ago 3
If you take this as sarcasm or offense, I apologize...
I agree... The small amount empty seats in the lower bowl at Game 1 tonight warranted a "WTF?" on my part.
pacmanghostx 2 years ago
Are you high?
Detroit has a season ticket base of over 16,000, allowing for only 4,000 Day of Game tickets. The empty seats you see are some of those season ticket holders (usually corporations) that blow off the game. "Sell Out" doesn't necessarily mean that every seat is filled.
Note: Detroit fans are so loyal that they continue to spend their hard earned money on tickets even during a recession.
pacmanghostx 2 years ago
Also Joe Louis Arena is one of, if not the largest arena in the NHL, it seats 21,000 is I'm not mistaken, whereas all other arenas seat between 18 and 19 thousand.
OzzmanFloyd120 2 years ago
20,066 at the Joe. i believe its only Belle Centre and United Center who seat more. every other arena you are correct seats fewer than 20,000.

imagine that detroit fans in anaheim. I wish the ducks the fans would beat the shit out all of them.

I have season Club seats for the Ducks-last 5 years. Wings fans are okay (Sharks fans suck) but the reason there are so many Detroit-tucky fans is that they all wanted to LEAVE Detroit. GO DUCKS!

I talked to a few fans who had no fucking idea what they were talking about.
Wings fans in California, sheesh.
born4thenhl 2 years ago
3. Series over, sorry buddy...
4. Go Wings!
tAlbert1212 2 years ago 2
by series over you mean kopecky's face getting severely smashed in,then ya, Beauchemin fucked him up
insomniac93 2 years ago
Notice how nobody on the Anaheim bench was standing up and banging their sticks on the board like they usually do after a fight? It was because Kopecky had balls to go after a real big tough guy(not being sacastic)Beauchemin(sp.?) and got the crap beat out of him. Most guys would shy away from him. Kopecky doesnt get in fights. Even Don Cherry, the biggest european hater, said he liked Kopecky's heart for growing a pair and fighting a much more skilled fighter.

I can't believe how many fair-weather fans this country has. Not just hockey either. Too many people jump on bandwagons in too many sports.
I'm not saying they have to go the soccer hooligan route, but damn.
There is no fecking reason why there should be over 5,000 Red Wings fans at Anaheim during a playoff.
Disgusting.
crazyk2345 2 years ago
It boils down to this:
If you have the money for admission, you have the right to root for any team you want in any stadium you want.
Note: This is coming from a New Jersey Devil who hopelessly watched our brand new arena be taken over by the trash called New York Ranger fans.

No one wants to be cliche.
antiflagsd 2 years ago
"Small, but loyal fanbase... Small market... No one wants to be a cliche."
Since I'm not a Detroit fan, I'm not going to thumbs you down or say it was a bad comment...
You basically just described the Devils fanbase in a nutshell... We may have a small fanbase, but we're just as loyal and passionate as Hab or Wing fans... Oh, and as for the "cliche" part... Our team plays right outside of NYC, and as the Rangers are a New York team, they are a cliche right off the bat. :)
pacmanghostx 2 years ago
@pacmanghostx Why is it though with the Devils people were able to go and buy great seats during the Stanley Cup Finals right up until the puck dropped? The Rangers are N.Y. no doubt about that. But the one thing also the Devils need worry about is when the Flyers and even when Islanders are winning.Their fans do show up and fill up a dumpy old building. Can you imagine what it would be like for them if they were winning all the time and played in a state of the art building?
WEINBAUER 11 months ago
@WEINBAUER I don't know what you're talking about. I mean, yeah I do know people who tried to get "great seats" right before the puck drop back in 2003, but they weren't from the box office - They were from scalpers. A friend of mine; His older brother spent around $350 to sit in the second to last row in the upper corner of the old CAA twenty minutes before the puck drop. Those seats were practically on Mars.
As for your Flyers and Islanders comment, check my response to your other post...
pacmanghostx 11 months ago
were there a lot of empty seats during the whole game?
illyrian4life 2 years ago
no, the ducks pulled their goalie really early, with 2 and a half minutes left and the wings scored right away. After that a ton of ducks fans headed for the exits
durbineil 2 years ago
thats cool. i started to think because of recession that people aren't buying tickets anymore.
illyrian4life 2 years ago
I could hear during the highlights how many Red Wings fans there were. I was like DAMN there must be tons of Wings fans their, they were almost as loud as the Anaheim fans. Fuck the Ducks, they don't deserve a team.
Desarollo 2 years ago
How does one deserve a team? Break this down for me please.
antiflagsd 2 years ago
it's pretty simple, if you have a team (let's just say in Anaheim) and you make the playoffs but you allow the other team's fans (let's say they are from Detroit) to dominate large sections of your home stadium because no one locally is buying out the place, then you do not deserve a team. The NHL is not about to expand and so the only way for a city to get a team is for one of the current ones to move. I live in Hartford, we lost our team because no one would go to games.
Desarollo 2 years ago 2
Anaheim actually sells out a lot of games, it is a combination of the bad economy (foreclosure rates in southern California are way higher than national average) and that Id venture to say that most of those fans wearing wings jerseys are So Cal natives who are just on the bandwagon.
antiflagsd 2 years ago
The playoff games are sold out, how can they control who buys the tickets? Idiot <3
guitarchild19 2 years ago
That's exactly how it is in Jersey when we play the Rangers...
But I oft wonder...
Do Ranger fans just snatch up the seats to make the home fans look bad? Considering that every time we don't play the Rangers, it's a packed house with everyone in red, I would think so...
(Apologies for the random tangent that only had a little bit to do with what you said. :P)
pacmanghostx 2 years ago
@pacmanghostx Is it bad when the Flyers and Islanders come to town?Especially when the Islanders are doing good?I remember that easter game that went to overtime that got the Islanders in the playoffs.I watched it on Centerice an you would have thought it was an Islanders home game.
WEINBAUER 11 months ago
@WEINBAUER Yes - And that was the last time the Islanders fans have ever shown up in New Jersey. Hell, you actually see a lot more Devils fans out on Long Island than you do Isles fans in New Jersey now. The last Devils - Isles game I attended was a sellout crowd in Newark, and out of an announced 17,625, I'd say there was 500 Isles fans there. And that's being generous.
And Flyers fans, they're just loud and obnoxious. They NEVER take over the Prudential Center while they claim to. Ever.
pacmanghostx 11 months ago
(Before I say this, I'm not a Duck nor am I a Wing fan.)
How can you say that...?
I bet you wouldn't be saying that back in 2003 or 2007 when watching the insanity and loyalty that was the Ducks fanbase...
However, I will agree that those Ducks fans I just described seem to only come out of the woodwork when their team makes the Finals.
pacmanghostx 2 years ago
yes some Ducks fans are like that, but also alot of them are not, and you get those kind of fans with ANY team

@venzetti8 I remember back in 2002 when they were in the finals and the tickets just for a bad seat at the Joe was outrageous from a ticket scalper.
