I went to go see Lady Antebellum on Saturday and he was one of the people who opened for them and he sang this song and he was great! I have lived all over this beautiful country. There is a certain genuine politeness that exists in the South that doesn't always exist elsewhere. I notice civility and polite behavior and miss it when its not there. Darius Rucker is a brilliant artist! I love this nation and I love the differences that make every region unique. Google the Corwin Amendment. Google memos that have been found, from Lincoln to various Southern governors...where Lincoln urged the governors to have their state legislatures vote on the Corwin Amendment.

Im not a fan of the flag but its not about racism it is about pride and a willingness to stand up for what you think is right. Sure slavery was wrong but after the war when all the ex-slaves went north they were put into factories getting paid less than they need to support their family oh and don't get me started on what the north did to the Irish.

Plenty more to be proud of when it comes to the South besides the confederacy, which "culture" or not, is as divisive and issue as there is down here.
I'm all for vigorous debate and dialogue, and I hope it is realized, when all is said and done, that Rucker would be disheartened by this video if he were to come across it. He has regularly expressed his discomfort with the Confederate flag being featured on the State Capitol in Charleston, and even wrote a song featured on Hootie & the Blowfish's historic debut, "Drowning", which is in part a commentary on how the flag is a divisive symbol in his view.

I have lived all over this beautiful country. There is a certain genuine politeness that exists in the South that doesn't always exist elsewhere. I notice civility and polite behavior and miss it when its not there. Darius Rucker is a brilliant artist! I love this nation and I love the differences that make every region unique. But, While personally opposed to slavery, Lincoln believed the Constitution supported it. His support of the Corwin amendment attempted to codify that belief, but the Civil War changed his opinion on presidential power. Lincoln issued the Emancipation Proclamation in 1862, and in 1865, vigorously worked to pass the actual thirteenth amendment, which declared slavery illegal.

Im not a fan of the flag but its not about racism it is about pride and a willingness to stand up for what you think is right. Yes we had more slaves than the north but that's like me killing more people than you your still a killer meaning your still "racist" . Sure slavery was wrong but after the war when all the ex-slaves went north they were put into factories getting paid less than they need to support their family oh and don't get me started on what the north did to the Irish.

I'm from Texas, love the South, and am black. Not going to get into the whole confederate flag debate, just wanted to point out that this was not the point of this song at all. Plenty more to be proud of when it comes to the South besides the confederacy, which "culture" or not, is as divisive and issue as there is down here.

I'm all for vigorous debate and dialogue, and I hope it is realized, when all is said and done, that Rucker would be disheartened by this video if he were to come across it. He has regularly expressed his discomfort with the Confederate flag being featured on the State Capitol in Charleston, and even wrote a song featured on Hootie & the Blowfish's historic debut, "Drowning", which is in part a commentary on how the flag is a divisive symbol in his view.
