  • Great footage mate.. Small wheels + bridge bolts = Old school.

  • i've been trying to find this song forever! i first heard it in the Tom Knox Speed Freaks part and I never knew what it was

  • Back when skaters were cool and chill. Now we got skaters that look like girls wearing tight ass jeans, lol.

  • @Einhander49 they wore tight jeans in the 80's too dude haha

  • i troll but i can t troll about any thing here

  • people still skate at poly today!1

  • You were better than most of the street skater kids nowdays. Nice style!!!

  • old school skateboarding is with a fish shaped santa cruz skateboard in 1980

  • kawa market R.I.P. haha. the city took that spot from them. also, the wood streets fuckin rule… "we couldn't afford a H so we bought a W" remember that

  • dope, man

  • You're awesome, man. And 2:12 ish is sick as hell. The whole thing is, but I had to double take on that one.

  • where is 1:45 at?

  • @THEDIEKU1

At a church in Riverside, CA. Exit the 91 freeway at Central ave. and go east about 3 miles and you'll see it on the north side of the street. It's on Central about 1 mile from Poly high school. There used to be two nice gaps there but they put a rail up, blocking the smaller one. I think the big one is still skateable.

  • wood streets?

  • @nick7allright

    Bandini!

  • @sinebass808 haha dude no way thats my street thats how i noticed that little gap. SO AWESOME!!!

  • @sinebass808 thats my street man haha this is awesome

  • @nick7allright

Between Brockton and Palm. My dad still lives there.

  • @sinebass808 yepp i live between palm and brockton thats pretty cool man haha

  • @sinebass808 ur on sponsor?

  • @nick7allright yep i live between brockton and palm haha. does your dad live in the two story?

  • @nick7allright

No. He lives on the north side of the street. There are two rather small houses right next to each other that are built exactly the same. Each of them have a little two-stair ledge on the side of the house where the driveway is. He lives in the one closest to Brockton. I was always getting in trouble for skating the ledge. :)

  • @sinebass808 i know exactly what your talking about man. i love the wood streets its gonna be hard on me if i move. did you remember the kawa market?

  • @nick7allright

Oh yeah, I remember Kawa Market. That place was disgusting yet awesome at the same time. BTW, If you ever happen to run into my dad, say hi to him... He'd be pretty stoked. He has seen my videos so he'll know what you're talking about.

  • @sinebass808 they tore it down which really sucks. but 7/11 is still right there so it doesnt matter. and yeah i will say hi to him when i see him. by the way i never gave you props on your skills really good man love the song too its always in my head ahaha

  • @nick7allright

Thanks Nick Next time I make a trip out, I'll PM you and we'll go skate. I'm always looking for people to skate with. You do skate; right?

  • @sinebass808 yep i need to get a new bored though. but yeah just let me know man.

  • this is so fucking sick i skate these spots every day

  • you were pretty good. do you still skate?

  • I still watch this video all the time. You're overdue for some new footy my man - get on it!:)

  • @High5Brah

I'd say yes, '91 was "old school" for at least 3 reasons.

    1. Board shapes were still in the experimental phase. The modern board shape wasn't standardized until '92.

    2. Switch stance wasn't fully introduced into skateboarding--this was still a novel idea at this time.

    3. This was prior to the "technical revolution" of skateboarding.

  • @sinebass808 I totally agree with your aforentioned. 1991 was the last of the old school era for sk8in as Vert and Freestyle were still around, but most importantly the last year for "FUN" sessions.

We lived and experienced the good old days :). We had fuck-all sk8 parks compared to kids now days who have it easy. I'm glad that kids are encompassing old school tricks again in their lines.

    Wicked Sk8in btw-enjoyed the footage!!

  • @theshotfam

    Thanks,

It's weird, I look back at those years ('89-91') and they seem rather bleak. I kid you not, I filmed this video with the only other skateboarder that attended my high school at he time. And this was in Southern California, where skating was born. Almost nobody skated back then. From my perspective, this was the least enjoyable time in skating. Honestly, I have more fun skating now. I love all these new skate parks. I just hate all the recent injuries I've incurred.

  • Great video work and amazing skateboarding. You ripped by any standard, you are fortunate to live with such great stoke!

  • 1991 was a good year for skating, I think I was riding a Lance Mountain with that Boneite junk they started putting in the Powell boards or it was a Tommy Guerro with the new pointed nose, both had really good tail's to get you a high ollie. also this is when punk music was used in skate video's, i know Firehose was a weird mix of jazz, funk, punk but they still fit in with the skate scene. seeing this video made me feel like a teenager again.

  • that was rad, H street days!!!

  • Nice dude, really good for that long ago.

  • if i had a time machine i would go back 20 years and give u new wheels...

  • Those were the days. Great choice in tunes too!

  • hahaha i wasnt even born yet

  • u should be pro man

  • dude that some sick skating, alslo good song choice

  • i just noticed the band name ,goes good with the sk8in

  • that was good stuff, what was that song?

  • Wow you were super good for 1991.

  • nice

  • dude u were freakin good! did u stop skating or wat? cause if u wouldve kept skating u would be pro by now

  • tup, what they said- for 1991, you shuda been on hstreet....i was havin bout then too, but you had mucha more vid n tricks....respeck!

  • Thank you for sharing. Dam you were good back in the day ... i mean real good.

  • Sick OG Riverside skateboarding! I recognize a few of those spots...

  • Cool, but it wasn't oldschool skateboarding

  • @bobiko12

I'll take that as a compliment. I think almost 20 years qualifies as "old school."

  • @sinebass808 30 years*

  • @ITheNaTtYI Wait, nvm -___-

  • @bobiko12 shut up kid

  • Based on the shape of the board and the size of the wheels I'd say 1993 :)

  • @baconair

This was 1991 for sure. In most of the shots I'm riding a Blind, Jason Lee "Burger King" deck. I even had rails and bridge bolts! My wheels were pretty small because they were old as funk!

  • Those kind of movies, from that time are 100 times better than today for me.

  • at 2 minutes is jefferson elementery school ..i think

  • dude ur wicked good!!!!!

  • god i wish i could go bak home to riverside

  • Let me know what your name is. I skated the same locations in the day. One Shot. L ledge all day on Market.

  • were good times, here in Canary Islands skate board was strong in that times between 1988 and 1994.

  • dude thats crazy i skate all those spots now infact the three stare u r skating in the beginning i ollied up it the other day

  • Who are you? Daewon Song?

  • haha cool my big bro went to poly high

    nice skating

  • Stylish 'Lance' slam at the end!!!

  • dude how didnt u go pro u were as good as the pros bak then........sik skating bro

  • man how didnt u go pro u were as good as pros were bak then...that was unreal

  • wow this good for back in 91 that leaves me to the question you ever become pro?

  • wow i dont see any skinny jeans

  • that was very good I like riverside bobby bonds park

  • i like how poly looks exactly the same after 20 years lol

  • love old school

  • lol damn. i remeber them tiny ass wheels.

  • Nice video, I was looking up fIREHOSE and saw this. I went to Poly high, class of 91.

  • Great video. And great song. fIREHOSE was such an awesome band.

Little trivia here: This song was also used in a relatively famous part back then. Name of the video and skater?

  • @sakurak1974

    Thanks sakurak!

The song was used in Ray Barbee's part in La Buena Vida. I wouldn't consider that video "relatively famous." more like: rare and obscure.

  • Frankly, I didn't remember that one -- too obscure. But you're right.

I was thinking about a different video (from 1989), a different skater...

  • @sakurak1974

so what was the video then?

  • Tom Knox's part in "Speed Freaks" (Santa Cruz).

It's available on Google videos. At around the 20:00-21:00 mark...

    Congrats again for your video.

  • @sakurak1974

Yeah, I'd seen that video back in the day but didn't really get into firehose til the Natas stuff. That's kind of ironic that it was in Tom's part because he moved to Riverside in like '93. There was maybe a handful of us still skating at that time and he'd roll up to our spots and skate for like a few mins and leave. We'd invite him to come to other spots w/ us but he'd act like he was to cool. You'd think he'd be stoked to have decent ppl to skate with but, nope.

  • awesome

  • dude you have the skills of some pros today

  • Speaking as someone who started skating in early '92 and knows what the skill level of most non pro skaters was like, you were really good. Smooth style and creative stuff. Man I loved skating back then. Great vid, cool to see young kids digging it too.

  • thats crazy watching this cause i skates those spots now a days thats insane!

  • film some stuff at my old spots and post it up. i would be super stoked to see that.

  • thats no oldscholl skateboarding!!

  • old school ......!

  • ha, old school jefferson ledges, i know where all of these places are, keep rippin'!

  • This reminds me of my glory days. My guess would be that you were influenced by Hensley and possibly Pat Duffy as well.

  • I definitely was influenced by Hensley. This was filmed before the Plan B video was out so I had no clue who Duffy was. This was around the time the Blind video came out so Guy, Rudy and J. Lee were my biggest influences at the time. However, Chris Hall (rode for New ) and Willy Santos were and still are my biggest influences. Search: "Chris Hall New Deal"

  • I used to watch the New Deal vids back in the day, mostly Useless Wooden Toys and 1281. I was most stoked on Armando, Templeton, and Ibaseta for the New Deal guys. Hall was smooth and did a lot of shifties and such on that hardwood floor.

I learned tre flips after looking at a sequential of Jason Lee back in the late 80's. To this day Lee still has one of my favorite mute grabs.

Guy is one of my all time favorite skaters, up there with the likes of Gonz, Hensley, Sheffey, etc.

  • Comment removed

  • those are some small ass wheels, what are they, 30mm lol

  • What kind of camera did you have?

  • it was one of those big-ass VHS camcorders from the 80's.

  • Nice, I still film with one of my two and a hi8. I want to buy a nice new one tho.

  • are you a skater from back in the day?

  • Nah, I was born in 1992 I just love old equipment It looks better in skate videos then these new small, shaky cameras.

But I skate freestyle and have this oldskool style I'm not to big on JUST street.

  • your a fucking beast

    haha thats tight

    im sure you would

  • I love that big size deck

  • ahh the good ol days.

  • Nice seen poly back then, i wasnt even born until a yr later. THts cool old footage

  • rad

  • ill

  • All of this was fucking dope:D

  • Barely any skateparks back then—you can tell this dude learned to skate street in the streets.

  • 91? how were you not sponsored? Some of this stuff is pretty tech even now.

  • How was your experience with that old Blind Jason Lee board?

  • The Blind video had just came out at that time, so everyone was pretty hyped on Blind-- including myself. The board was state of the art for back then, though I couldn't imagine riding it now. It was really wide and weighed a ton!

  • I also had a Gonz "Macaroni n' Cheese" and a World Industries Mike V "Animals" in some of the clips... If you're in to skateboard history.

  • Ah dude, I've skated just about every one of these spots from when i used to visit riverside. Memories. Really good skating too man. Good to see you picked it back up. I got a lot of respect for that man. Take it easy - Andy

  • that 3 set at poly is fun, still skate it till this day.

  • looks like the sickest skate spot aye ! wish there were more spots around like that here

  • this vid is soo cool i was born 1995 was security a bitch back then like it is today?

  • Skateboarding was pretty much dead at that time so we didn't get hassled too much. I imagine it has only gotten worse. Heck, skate-stoppers weren't even

    thought of back then!

Now-a-days, I pretty much only skate at the parks and never get bothered there so I really don't know.

  • i wasnt even planed then

  • wow man ur great hope u still have it in u

  • I still skate a lil bit. I have some recent videos on my channel.

  • were u sponsored back then?

  • i like.

that lipslide the like 3 set and lannd in a bank was really nice.

  • woah, that was 4 years before i was born! you were sick! 5*

  • Thats Way Sick For Back Then

  • I was in diapers at the time

  • I skate poly normaly with my friends i also attend it haha but best place to go to is UCR its gotten so much bigger and thats the only place u can skate without any1 caring plus UCR has everything no doubt

  • Your style is pretty clean, nice skating.

  • thanks. there were a few pay-to-skate parks that would pop up here and there--no public ones. skating was about dead at his time. i was 1 of maybe 10 skateboarders at my southern california high school at that time... if you can believe that!

  • wow thats nice man ! was there any skatepark back in 1991?

  • thanks! im 35. check out my channel, i have some recent videos.

  • nice dude how old are u now???

  • what was the width of the board you were riding, please reply

  • in most of the shots i was riding a jason lee "burger king" board by blind. you may be able to research that and find out for sure. i really have no idea. my best guess would be: wide as funk!

  • i think its funny when people ask me where these spots are in the video. this was almost 20 years ago. i dont know if these places are still skateable...??

anyway, that is jefferson elementary school in riverside.

let me know if its still skateable!

  • yea it still is and so is poly not really the colleges cuz they got a crap load of security guards now and theyll take ur board

  • take your board? only if you let them.

    think about it!

  • NICE! usually when people post vids of themselves they suck. This is GOOD, even by todays standards... 91 was around the time smoking weed became more important to me than skating....big mistake! And fIREHOSE was a fav band of mine!!! Well done sir! *clicks subscribe button*

  • me two im born and rase in reverside

  • Hell's yeah, nice shove's out, Im from the I.E. as well bro 29 and still love to skate.

  • hey sinebass at what point at this video does it show you skating at poly? is it Long beach Poly? because i go there.

  • about 50% of the video is at Riverside Poly High School. it's the spot with a bunch of stairs, rails and banks.

  • is it Long Beach Poly? or some other poly?

  • Comment removed

its just that three at polly you were shredding is all chipped up now

  • thanks.

believe it or not, my friend keith and i were the first ones to wax that 3 set up and skate it like a ledge. keith came up with the idea to wax i up and lipslde it. we were all about lipslides in those days, if you didn't notice.
