Gaboon's are deffinatally my favorite venomous snake. They have such great patterns, they strike faster than hell and they're just realy interesting creatures :)
That was great idea to put the camera in the enclosure so that we get a "snake's eye view" of both the animal itself and an idea of what the animal sees.
Wow. The Gabon is so powerful and active it looks more like a crocodile/wolf attacking it's prey than a snake the way it lunges and thrashes it's head... more "lively" and "warm blooded"... if you get my drift...
Q's:
Are there any venomous snakes that could be considered more "mammal"/intelligent than others? Perhaps one that stands out?
Do you ever regulate their enviroment (temp) before handling them like they do with bees?
I meant weekly or bi-weekly, evidently I wasnt paying attention as I was typing. No need to spam my comment for an honest question and honest mis-types.
I really applaud you for that. Many of us like both rats and snakes, and why put a domestic rat through a painful death if a captive snake will take a f/t? I know it is safer for the snakes too. I have actually adopted a few snake food reject rescues and they turn out to be just as sweet little pets as any other rat. I understand that some snakes require live prey, but I am disappointed that so many snake owners only want to share video of their snake killing something.
I notice the same thing with my argentina boa. I'm assuming that by making the pupils very small it allows them to sleep better by allowing less light in since they have no eyelids. I havn't noticed the dilation of the eyelids when he's hungry though, i'm gonna have to look into that.
Beautiful snake by the way. I prefer my boa because i can actually take it out and tame it somewhat.
Wow...I finally get to see a vemonous snake feed. I'm used to seeing my babies (2 ball pythons, a rosey boa, and a hognose) eat, and I'm starting to draw some parrallels between their habbits! However, I've never noticed to dialated pupils. Do you think that's a universal trait among snakes? Oh, and how do you prekill your rodents? They look pretty fresh.

King Cobra's and Mamba's are exceptionally intellegent.
Sometimes I will chill somebody down if they are not so cooperative at warmer temps.

Why do you only feed her once a month instead of monthly or bi-monthly?
KatieJean1985 3 years ago
If I feed her once a month, is that not feeding her monthly?

I do notice the dilation of the pupils with most of my Viperids. Check out this video of the Gabby feeding http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=wsz0SWPnWe8
I have lots of videos just search on youtube for "Viperkeeper" I buy my rodents from " Rodent Pro" they use Co2 to kill them.
