KUDOS for the best piano artist I have EVER heard. This guy can make the piano SMOKE and play like NO OTHER! Chick Corea is and always will be my inspiration!
These guys know their Monk: never a dull moment. Chick may be the closest you can get to hearing the real Monk. 'Play' in optima forma. Miroslav is brilliant throughout, what a bassist! Roy played with Monk, and carries forward his spirit of play ... Watch this again & again, this is a true pearl!
@ crazy8drums: it just happens to be my opinion, dude. If you don't like it, either live with it or go get help. What a moronic assumption to say that "I'm speaking for others"...!
Roy is my favorite drummer of all time. he's like a gentle breeze that can blow over palm trees. So smooth and soft but projects more energy than a nuclear power plant.
this another level of musicianship. they all have that same crazy rhythm in their head, and not a one misses a beat. somehow it all blends perfectly. so envious of chick on the keys. i wish my brain could do that!!
I love this video and the music is the vibiest, most clairvoyant music Iv'e heard since Bob Marley, Aston "Family Man" and Carlton Barrett of the Wailers. Please do not diss me hard for mixing genres, or because I am the persuasion that music is music, and check it: This is one of the few youtube videos where 100 % of the comments are in complete accordance, musicianship at this level is rare, but think, this kinda thing is going on all the time musicians, conversations...such a natural mystic!
Now He Sings Now He Sobs from 1968 and Trio Music from 1981 are two MASTERPIECES...it's piano trio at its VERY BEST...these are two remarkable, extraordinary achievements. I love Bill Evans trio and I love Keith Jarrett...but these two albums have a level of energy and novelty that is quite rare in this medium.
Still today, both albums sound as fresh and exciting as it can get.
I agree with you about John P and Dave W!!! This is just a better all-around trio, but maybe we are being a little unfair in that criticism. Maybe a little...but i dont care...damn! lol
Roy Hanes had a killer drum solo between "Steps" and "What Was" on the "Now He Sings Now He Sobs" album. Roy's the man. Elvin did it and Philly joe did it but Roy Haynes just didit 'n didit 'n didit 'n didit 'n didit.
The video "keyboard workshop"? he says that he uses every finger of his hands as a drum... I would call it "2 hand technique". Its really easy to produce groups of something like 5 or six or even seven in 8note lines. pretty cool!
few can do it with the precision like he does -very true!
I've got an old VHS tape of a lesson given by Chick where he shows you how to play those runs. Basically groups of three notes played in each hand. Few can do it like he does, though...
When was this recorded? Off course, it's impressive to watch and listen to Corea and Vitous. But most impressive is Roy Haynes. He's been a professional musician since the 40's.
Magnifique !

This is playful and hard swinging. It sounds like they are having some high spirited fun with time, sound, silence and intervals.

i think it's so funny how when i was in jr. high 4 years ago i got the "now he sings now he sobs" album and thought it was terrible!
after sticking to jazz for a few years, i can't get enough of chick corea!
it's amazing how their level of musicianship is so much higher than what a normal ear can handle!

All 3 of them are fantastic, I agree, Miroslav is the greatest I've ever seen. The things he does with a bow are genius.

Awesome. And Mirosval has got to be the most underrated bassist in history, this guy (along with Corea) is a genius.
ewmeiss 4 years ago 10
@ewmeiss
He isn't underrated. He is right where he needs to be... with two other absolutely stunning examples of musical genius.
It might help others to understand you if don't try to speak for others. It will also help you to understand others.
Better yet...enjoy an incredible performance from not one, not two, but 3 of the most brilliant musicians ever!
