I was 8 years old when i first got my genesis with altered beast. And to be honest, the game's graphics were cool for about 15 minutes and it was amazing. Its a great demo game to show off what genesis was capable of at the time. But like i said, after the first day i played it i went back to playing super mario bros. 3 on my nes til i got something better to play on my genesis which was phantasy star 3 and sonic the hedgehog.

Ah yes, here it is, one of the shittiest games to ever be recognized as a great classic.

Best parts of the game are "WISE FWOM YO GWAVE" and "WELCOME TO YO DOOM". Once you've heard them both, just turn the game off. It's all downhill from there.

@jaymorpheus11 So what if it was 1989? That doesn't excuse the gameplay being repetitive and derivative, the music being bland and unmemorable, and the graphics being subpar even for their time. It was a bad game when it was new, and it's a bad game now. Nothing's changed. And the Arcade version isn't much better.

Strider, Ghouls 'N Ghosts, and Revenge of Shinobi all came out at about the same time as Altered Beast, but they all managed to be good games with original ideas and inspired design.

I had a sega genesis with this game, but the console got fryed somehow. I regret not beating this game along with some others like sonic the hedgehog 2, strider, etc. Good game though.

SEGA's System 16 arcade version of Altered Beast looked so much better than the watered down Genesis version. Yet everyone thought the Genesis version looked almost as good as the arcade. The difference is pretty damn clear.

Toshio Kai did not do the music in this game. A person at Sega by the name of Nav. composed the music as well as doing the sounds in this game. Nav. also did the music to the Genesis Ghostbusters game.

I think the Master System has much longer level..but there is no bear only 4 levels but much longer. werewolf,dragon,weretiger & the golden werewolf. Oh yes there is a 3D version of altered beast for the PS2 I think it was in Japanese, Its hard in 3rd person view the plot is different a genetic engineered stuff is involved. Have it love it too..

It is a snake's tail, like a rattle snake. A few moments later it is, what looks like, dragon headed snakes falling from the ceiling. On the ground if you kick the tail it falls off and the snake can not come up.

I remember beating this game once, but I think it was on the Genesis. When I play it on my SEGA Dreamcast SEGA Collections I get owned by the third level with the ants. If I recall correctly, the arcade version had a much better transformation sequence that did up close shots of the eyes and mouth etc. transforming instead of just a split second one on the Genesis. Regardless, just to let you know since you also showed the collection on the PS2... Ristar is one of the best games on there.

i admit, this game was the worst pack in ever. it came with my sega genesis and 30 minutes later i was playing mario. of course first minute i was drooling at the graphics (it was back in 89) and the next minute bored out of my mind with the clunky controls and straight forward gameplay... boo.
