@JeepCherokeeKid You don't have to ask an engineer or a scientist about reliability (consumer reports) Just ask the consumer, and enough will be said about GM and Chrysler's poor reputation, for the past twenty years, all they have been building was cheap unreliable junk. Try a 1994 Toyota 4Runner 330k NOTHING DONE, without all those famous GM rattles and squeaks because of there send it to Mexico cheap quality issues.

@Zinizzle well lets see my 1994 s10 has 165000 no problems, my dads 1995 grand marquis has 250000 miles no problems. i love fords which tend to be more reliable but chevys are up there. it depends on what engine you have. a 4.0 will be a 2.7 for crysler. a 5.7 will beat a 2.2 for chevy. a 2.3 will do better than a 3.0 for ford. i rebuild engines and have seen plenty of hondas and toyotas especially with blown motors at low miles. to me it makes no diffrence where they are made they are engines

@JeepCherokeeKid Bull shit, and what do you consider "foreign" considering that Corolla is made more in the US than ANY of the big 3s compacts. As well as most of their line up. Toyota is supporting US jobs, more then what you can say for GM. And yes they still use some Japanese parts which they're made with (quality) and the content of it still being made in the US still outweighs all of the big 3s and their outsourcing.

@Zinizzle well nothing is really made here, the plants in america are only assebly plants my point was all the engines are the same. they all made from the same materials with the same basic blueprints. there are a few exceptions like the 2.7 chrysler which is horible but over all everythings made the same. all have the same clearences, similar lobe configuration and piston and rod design. and many other things.

@JeepCherokeeKid I will agree with that to an extent, "nothing is made here fully" but most Toyota's are made MORE in the US than ANY of the big 3, and that does mean a lot. Plus take Toyota's excellent reputation for quality and dependability. Plus I won't EVER buy anything again from Government Motors, or junk Chrysler. And all of the materials are not the same. Most of them are built cheaper than others. Or they find a way to cut costs and somethings going to be rattling and squeaking.

@Zinizzle they use cast iron, aluminum and somtimes forged materials, they are the same materials especially since cast iron is used less every year, they do the same job and are built the same way. im just glad i have brakes.

But the designs for the most part are pretty similar, but every manufacturer has it's technology and other mechanical innovations that go inside. And GM and Chyrlsers head gaskets are KNOWN to go. Plus GMs "dex cool" JUNK eats through all of your seals and gaskets. When it comes to the rest of the "power train" or even simple interior materials, Toyota and Honda has everyone beat. GM, Chrylslers trannys were always junk.

@JeepCherokeeKid Do you realize the major Japanese brands haven't started having some minor issues until they were made almost entirely in the US. None of the vehicles out of Japan really ever had a problem. They are trying to pay for US wages while still maintaining quality control, unlike GM or Chrysler, with some exception to Ford, because they're using Japanese parts from their subsidy Mazda.

@JeepCherokeeKid Dodge, Chrysler formerly DaimlerChrysler, and GM has had a history of excessive vehicle quality issues, safety defects and poor service. Do you remember all of the issues with there head gaskets? or failing transmissions? wheel bearing issues? ball joint defects? And all of the braking defects on the Jeeps and other Chryslers? It's only a cost to benefit ratio with Chrysler and GM and yet they still pay the execs and UAW outrageous wages instead of putting their product 1st
