Isn't ironic that the forefathers stated that all men are created equal yet they had slaves and created laws that considered slaves as animals? Hmmm...life, liberty, and the pursuit of happiness...but for who?
Think about that for a minute...let it soak in the brain...
@rufdawg100 It is not something that they did not debate about or consider themselves, but they decided that the words they wrote were far more important than the hypocrisy some of then lived.
You cannot deny that if not for their sacrifices and thoughts that the world would not have been much better off.
Are you suggesting that the world would have been better off if these "racist" "sexist" men never sacrificed everything for all of humanity to have the right of life, liberty and the pursuit of happiness?
Where were the women of the time that purposed something similar?
Women weren't allowed to compete so with the exception of a few who never get any publicity like Mary Wollstonecraft who wrote "A Vindication of the Rights of Women" around the same time (18th cen.) proposing just such equality, No & if they did, they were ignored. If you want to fid such women you would have to ake a "woman's studies " course in college. Mary Wollstonecraft should not be confused with her daugher Mary Wollstonecraft Shelley who wrote "Frankenstein"..
@rufdawg100 I HAVE BEEN TOLD THAT BECAUSE THEY WERE CALLED "SLAVES" THEY WERE NOT CALLED "men" THUS THEY DID NOT EUQAL TO MEN BY TERM NOT IN STATURE/FLESH. That we are manipulated to believe what is good and bad. Beautyful - ugly. We are manipulated to see the world as we see it.
I am allready planing to free myself - I do not need a society to do that, I am simply going to move away from all humansociety - live alone and become one with the human nature.
@RestodruidNozon You say manipulated like it's intentional, It's not.... No need to remove yourself from society, just stick to your beliefs that you've developed
Manipulation is happening all the time.. you are just another blind soul.
My believes is that the humanrace should start taking some responsability for eachother, which they do not. Otherwise I prefer them dead than living...
Btw - it's okay to be blind... only people who has hate as motivator for living can see the true world - how society and so on is made... The way to become artist or genius or something else... a monster we might call them as well.
A wise person once said that , "it is easy to be a holy man on a mountain top". It is easy to be good & wise when you don't have to put up with the many children in adult bodies who are screwing everything up with the irrationality & worse. If you want to be free you have to be able to deal with all the stupidity other people can bring into your life. Or "When you learn to love hell, you will be in heaven". Forgot who said that. Oh well
nicely idealistic, unfortunately it presupposes communism. Without communism or some other means of eliminating the power of the capital, it will always enslave everyone. Capital has no foresight or morals, which means that we need to tame it if we are to create a society without enslavement
Liberty is the oposite of crony capitalism or the fascism we have now. Once again someone assumes that what we have now is capitalism, but it isn't. Our markets are more rigged by the elite than the communists chinese central planner's are. WHAT WE HAVE IN THE U.S. RIGHT NOW IS NOT CAPITALISM. We need liberty to fight it, not communism.
I am not an american, but it seems to me that you are right in your analysis. However, any anarchy (or libertarianism, or whatever) will fall into the same system extremely quickly, so it seems to me that the only way to prevent a weath-elite is to place all wealth in common hands and move the competition to a more level playing field than economics.
@MrVolvoxFan Anarchy and and libertarianism are not the same thing. One believes in a world of no laws, one believes in the Constitution. One will quickly be subverted by the strongest and most cunning anarchists, the other takes centuries to gut by those same men.
@TruthNeverTold Isn't the constitution one group of men's ideals being forced upon everyone else? I also don't believe that anarchists believe in no Law, they just believe in individual sovereignty. Wanting to be self governing does not automatically make one a thug who wishes to dominate others. It's about growing up and taking responsibility for ones own actions.
i'm not an anarchist. My training was as a historian. I know that human beings are not ready for "communism". The history shows that humans will not work very hard when they/their family does not benefit directly from that labor. In a world with many easy resources then people can be generous & when resources are hard to get/scarce they are not. They become tribal to whatever group they value. Real capitlism does not recognize most copyright law. It allows all competition.
You are correct in that people work most efficiently when they stand to gain something. However, that does not have to be wealth, wealth is simply the current currency fucking everything up. I argue for a total paradigm shift, where another metric of how succesful you are (for example, social recognition, to name something close) is important.
Also, itake exception to your claim that libertarians believe in the constitution. Being unamerican, i don't worship it
Being female, I don't worship such a white christian male centric document either. However, in the past 200 + years it has been exanded to include more people. Social recognition does nothing for me and I will not work for it. Niether will most people, if they would then communism would have been sucessful but it has failed. Perhaps if we end up in some star trek world with replicators where resources are freely availabe to all, but not in our finite resource world.
@dishesdealer417 You will not do it officially, however, i willl bet anything you strive to be a good person according to your values. Those values are highly influenced by your society, which basically means that you actually do work towards social recognition. That was not my main point, it was rather that i propose a huge change. You can probably list a lot better examples of societies changing values than i can
I would also argue that dictatorship, not communism, has failed.
Technically, communistm has never been tried because it requires the collapse under it's own weight of a capitalistic economy which again I posit will never happen in an overpopulated world with dwindling resources. But the chinese starting in 1949 did try it as thoroughly as possible without actually following the manifesto and they failed. Real capitalism has never really been tried either as until recently women, blacks etc have almost always been excluded from the markets

@newgtguy - so you are saying we have never been free??? We just had a better illusion of it than any other society in the history of the planet??? Well, that is a beginning and we can go from there. Its better than the alternative currently being put before us, don't you think? Or are you one of those that wishes to have a full and complete dictatorship with no "illusion" of rights like owning your own home or chosing your own occupation, or pursuing art, music, marrying, having children..
