A northern Irish catholic says, well done Catherine Tate! This is hilarious, all of the ulster mum stuff is great. Settle down folks below. Wind yer neck in big lad ;)
Heck, this is a RIOT!!! My family is Irish (but from southern Eire). It reminds me of my own family, right down to their delight about my cousin being gay!!!!
This sketch was brilliant and was just in fun. Her humor was always on the edge, that's what made it so funny. She was brilliant in Doctor Who as well, probably the best actress ever to play a companion.
I'm from Northern Ireland but I don't think it's offensive at all, I don't think it's awfully funny either. The apron was lazy. She should have used something like "I'm cooking for Bobby Sands" or something. And she could have picked on more stereotypes like having children drinking whisky or nothing but potatoes for Christmas dinner. Oh well. Not a fan of Tate, and she's rubbish in Doctor Who. Lighten up though, it's really not offensive.
"Have you ever seen Give My Head Peace? It makes fun of Northern Irish stereotypes, but no one slams it." Eh i slam it!!! its terrible. Its not so much that this is offensive its just not funny and hardly satirical anymore! Its pretty peaceful in northern ireland now so why make this sketch now. Lazy stereotypical humour!
I'm from Northern Ireland and I did not find this offensive. For God's sake it is only a joke, and most comedy is made from social or political or religious satire. It doesn't say that ALL Irish are like this. Have a sense of humour. Have you ever seen Give My Head Peace? It makes fun of Northern Irish stereotypes, but no one slams it. The reason is its done by Northern Irish people. The only reason Tate got slammed is because she's English. Now THAT'S racist.
i luv the irish accent!
