  • Barry Shitpeas' Chuckle Castle would be the greatest thing ever produced if it existed.

  • So, if this is how it works, how did Screeenwipe make it on the air relatively unscathed? Or does Brooker secretly think his show is crap and stick around for the paycheck?

  • never realized until he said it

Charlies does look like a white Laurence Fishburne

  • This doesn't happen with books... does it?

If it does... I worry for my manuscript... TT^TT

  • So incisive! Can't think of many people who blend great comedy with informative lectures so well.

Wish some more TV execs could actually listen to this guy and change their godawful policies

  • Mike Bradley (the idea) surely suffers alot filming Screenwipe.

  • So maybe Nathan Barley was actually funny when Charlie first thought it up!

  • @Misishaxi I'm not sure it was ever meant to be funny in hindsight. Brooker and Morris were deliberately shitting on some of their biggest fans with those characters.

  • Can you say "shit" and "fuck" on British TV? Just curious, that only happens on special prime time or premium cable movie channels in America (I think, I can't afford either -_- )

  • @bubbagump562001 The basic rule is: yes after 9pm. They are still meant to warn you before the program starts and sometimes they bleep it anyway, though.

  • @Octospherics I think that's how it works in America too. In Canada, you can say/show anything you want, short of pornography obviously, after 10 pm.

  • @bubbagump562001

Yeah you can, Brooker intentionally edits his swearing for effect

  • @bubbagump562001 You'll hear the F word on Screenwipe occasionally. Charlie just bleeps his own F-bombs because he thinks it makes them sound funnier.

  • @Misishaxi The bleeps are so short the words essentially sound like "fu-bleep-ck". Noone else on Screenwipe is bleeped, no matter how potty mouthed they get.

  • @Misishaxi Sometimes Charlie does go uncensored on the F-bombs, but that's only to emphasise a particularly serious point that any bleeping is likely to undermine. A particularly good example was during an understandably grim moment in his review of The Baby Mind Reader.

  • the end dance!!! THE HILARITY!!!!

  • @nofancypants

The dinky music only adds to the strange awesomeness.

  • You know, I work (sort of) with TV, and this is actually pretty close to reality... almost

  • Class.

  • Brooker is actually a genius this is so true its scary...

  • I wonder if Barry Shitpeas could be based on 1 person? If so who could it be? Vernon Kay?

  • Shitpeas is supposed to be a lazy, 'edgy' observational stand-up. Seems to be a combination of every comedian Brooker doesn't like. Which is a list most probably headed by Peter Kay, Paddy McGuinness, Michael McIntyre and Leigh Francis. Though I'm sure there's plenty other influences.

  • HAHHAHHAHAA ROFL. This is just Soo fucking funny !!!!!

  • shat???

    rofl way of saying shit

  • So painful, so true...

  • Must admit that is true, I've been through that with ideas in the past myself.

  • get that Shitpeas on the telly.

  • "And that exactly do TV works."

*Dee dee dee dee dee dee*

  • wow...awesome

  • Anyone get the feeling that he is basically telling the story of the production behind the Nathan Barley sitcom in this clip?

  • I think it's far more likely to be based on the ill-fated 2001 TV series version of TVGoHome.

  • I had no idea that TGH had ever transferred to the screen (I knew there was a book spin-off). To be honest, I was mostly just riffing on Charlton's acknowledgement of NB's lacklustre - at large - reception (comically exaggerated up to "loathed, shat on & despised").

Actually, I do get the impression he was fairly - if not entirely - pleased with NB. Personally, this is why I find he works best in print, and as himself (even though he does churn his 'articles' out at the very last minute).

  • @Octospherics yeah plus Nathan Barley was brilliant and it's clear Brooker and Morris had creative control

  • @Octospherics its more likely based on every production that has happened in the past half century or so.

  • And that kids is why we use the internet.

  • To watch clips of telly programs, it would seem. Let's face it, telly (or radio or cinema) are not perfect, but neither is the web. Plus, all four will eventually merge in time, anyway.

  • sounds abit like my industry interior design, you present your idea to the boss he likes it but wants to change bits, the client wants to change bit, till you have a bastardized version of your own idea, but not just nod and say thats great u want to put a statue nude figure riding a unicorn there instead thats lovely not at all 1980style tack,

  • Watched this several times, picked up little things like that additional "detail" to Barry's Nose. I though it was a nice touch.

  • Poor, poor little innocent idea. :(

  • This is why TV will NEVER get ahold of my ideas.

  • arent you a little presumptuous about what you make on youtube?

  • Laugh because it's funny and cry till you puke because it's true.

  • What song is used during this scene?

  • From scrounging around, I think it's Ted Atking & Alain Feanch's "Children's Carnival". Pretty much the best kind of song that they could've chosen...!

  • Thanks so much for this fabulous funny truthful bit about life in the independent world of producing TV...in fact going through just this right now... looks like this is a universal problem, I feel better I guess, and regardless of how it all turns out I certainly had a good laugh today.

  • I suppose it's not practical or possible for you to present your idea live or to the internet?

Frankly, that's the best bit of advice I picked up from this video clip.

  • FYI I work in tv and this is not a comedy piece

  • Interesting... exactly what is your... profession?

  • It dosent matter - anyone in any area of TV knows the dealio - 'i work in tv' aswell. Its hilariously true!

  • I see :)

  • Love the cheery little dance at the end

  • That was absolute gold!

  • Haha I saw This on TV and I loved it Brooker Is Great!!
