We complaing because they take are childhood and say well this is wrong I'm 18 been waiting for gijoe movie my whole life my dad is 41 and has been waiting since he picked up his first joe comic as a kid so yeah we're gonna be..
Rachel Nichols doesn't look that good as a brunette and heavy eye makeup. She looked absolutely gorgeous as a blonde in "P2." But even as a brunette, she looks better than 99% of women on this planet. Her mouth is SO pretty. My twinkie is so happy right now.
Horrible interview, great questions to start off with, LOL. the movie was terrible, just like allof the hollywood interpretations as of late with anime, cartoons and books.
Dragonball, Chun Li, GI joe, now the smurfs, what's next?
I liked this movie and I have read the comics and I kind of wanted Scarlet and Snake eyes to hook up lol. I'm glad that at least in the comics they did.
Well I'm not familiar with the comics. I never knew that Marvel made the comics so I can see where fans would have a problem with the changes. I used to watch the cartoon as a child. The cartoon had a simplified theme of good vs evil. From what I remember it wasn't exactly rich in story. Still, I enjoyed the movie for what it was with the exception of the actor who played Duke. I found his performance to be terribly weak at times.
The comics were much deeper. Snake Eyes didn't take a vow of silence, his face was scarred and his vocal chords were damaged saving Scarlett in a helicopter crash; Cobra Commander was responsible for the death of Snake's sister and parents in a car accident; both Firelfy and Zartan were hired by the Commander to kill Snake, but Zartan hit the Hard master by mistake; Baroness blamed Snake for her brother's death, and tried to have him and Scarlett killed during surgery to repair his face. Whew!
I'm sure you realized that they didn't dis-acknowledge their relationship completely as there were numerous references to it. To give a better example of a movie which drastically changed it's original story I ask you to take a look at Steven Spielberg's "Hook" which asks the question, "What if Peter Pan grew up?". Peter Pan is supposed to be the boy who never grows up yet Spielberg went the other way with it. Many do not like the movie but I care not. It is one of my favorite childhood movies.
Some may not like it but it really isn't necessary to focus on especially when reintroducing the characters again for their first live action movie. This means they are given room to experiment with the origin story before receiving the backlash from fans with which they may correct their mistakes in their follow up should they be granted one. It is absolutely possible to have the Snake Eyes & Scarlett romance and would certainly be interesting to watch develop.
That's actually what I meant to say but I lost the words so I just stuck with different perspective. As an example take a look at that Romeo & Juliet movie with Leonardo DiCaprio. It was an interesting spin on the story. Is that really so damaging? People interpret the same things differently. Anyway I completely agree with you but it just doesn't make sense to complain about something you have no control over. Just enjoy it. I sure did...not the romance, the movie.
The Dicaprio movie didn't put Juliet with someone else, and that's the point. If you don't get that, you shouldn't be trying to make an argument you can't support! They only put the story in the present day, but they didn't change the the way the story went, or who Juliet ended up with! Seriously, do you even think before you say these things?
alright dude I'm done with you. Get off your goddamn high horse. I was simply stating that setting the movie in present day was interesting. You seem to be determined to keep this debate going and in a hostile manner. Just like I said you are interpreting everything I say differently then I mean it. You are likely to respond to this message and I could care less. Don't expect another response.
Hey, I'm sorry for my last post. It was too harsh and I was in a bit of a rush, as I was on my way out the door. What I meant to say is that even though the DiCaprio film changed the setting, it didn't try to change the story. Most plays and novels are respected in their film adaptations, wheras comic books are usually torn to shreds whenever Hollywood types get their slimy hands on them, and most fans get very tired and fed up with that treatment. I apologize for being rude to you.
I thank you for and accept your apology. I'm sure you understand that setting the aforementioned DiCaprio movie in present day would drastically change the story of Romeo and Juliet yet it managed to keep the core story which is not unlike the recent G.I Joe movie. The G.I. Joe story's focus was not solely on Snake Eyes and Scarlett's relationship. The movie retained the core of the story even without this romance which is not the focus of the story.
To be fair to Baz Luhrmann, he may have changed the setting, but not the story. The events, characters, and dialogue were all intact, only the background was different. I wish I could agree with you on the GI JOE movie, however I've read the comics, and I can tell you that the core story was radically changed. Duke was never involved with the Baroness; the team was never a multi-national unit; Cobra Commander was originally a used-car salesman; Zartan killed the Hard Master, not Storm Shadow.
I for one hate the Resident Evil movie adaptations as they have almost absolutely no relation to the actual game. Does that make them bad movies? It's up to the opinion of it's audience. I still enjoyed them somewhat but I would have liked to see it stick to it's source material at least a little bit.
Jesus 44excalibur. Your all over the place. All I was saying is that movies based on franchises, whether or not how faithful they are to it's source material, are meant to show you a different perspective. You can't expect every story to be perfectly replicated onscreen. Changes are made and there's nothing you can do about it besides complain. Just enjoy it for what it is and stop being so critical about it. We could go on forever giving examples of good and bad movie adaptations.
No they are not meant to show a different perspective, they are meant to translate the author's vision to the screen, and if you really knew anything about movies, novels or the comics you would know that! Try making movies of Shakespeare and Jane Austen's works and start changing the stories around, then see how much sympathy you get when you try to tell them it's a "different perspective". They'll tell you exactly what you can do with your perspective!
Hey now.. its the right of the die-hard long time fanboys to be critical when some ignorant hollywood types come along and debase and degrade a part of mythical toy/comic/cartoon universe that many have held sacred for years. It's not wrong to enjoy a "new perspective" for what it is, but that doesnt mean that we as knowledgable fans have to accept it blindly without giving our feedback. Plus, WHERE THE HELL WAS THE LARRY HAMA CAMEO? why did it get cut out of the film?!?!?1
@neloangelo6661 U know i dont think she is sienna miller or (baroness) i like her beauty when she is in G. I. JOE has black hair and everything muaaah!!!
@neloangelo6661 change is good? blah blah blah, is hollywood so depleted of ideas of how to make themselves senseless piles of money they make movies of other peoples ideas..yes should they be allowed to butcher and debase something with a concrete and well established backstory/lore/plot line...no Just look at the nightmare of a movie they made of the Super Mario franchise and my point becomes perfectly clear
Ha! I knew there would be retaliation. Many people do not understand movies. Movies aren't meant to be the way you think it should be. Yes, even if it's based on an existing franchise. When the decision is made to turn a franchise into a movie it is meant only as another take on it's story. It matters not if they are faithful to the source material so much as it is showing you a new perspective. Didn't like the Scarlett Ripcord romance? Too bad go watch the original if it bothers you so much.
First of all, it wasn't much of a "romance" and I wouldn't be surprised if it gets dumped in the sequel in favor of her and Snake Eyes considering so many fans hated the Ripcord thing. Second, I don't know what movies you've been watching, but if a movie is based on a novel or a comic book, it is expected to be faithful to the source material. Ask the makers of the box office flop "Superman Returns" if it was smart having Lois Lane raising a child with another man. "New" does not mean "better".
Third, Snake Eyes and Scarlett's romance has lasted 25 years in the comics, but it has never been realized onscreen because the makers of the cartoon and the movie assume that it's "difficult" because Snake Eyes can't talk, and I believe that the fans are long overdue to see this epic romance finally realized onscreen instead of inferior and contrived substitutions. "New perspective" only works if it's an improvement on the original material, which this is not! If it ain't broke, don't fix it!
I do understand movies -- I've been a movie buff all my life -- and the best ones adapt the matierial faithfully: The Lord Of The Rings; Sin City; The Shawshank Redemption; L.A. Confidential; etc. You only make changes when necessary, not for a toy company's convenience! If you think that movies are always meant to be completely different form the source material, you're living in a dream world! Schumacher ruined Batman, but eventually we got Nolan who did it right! You always go back to basics!
If you like the Scarlett/Ripcord thing, enjoy it while it lasts because it will be discarded and forgotten; Snake Eyes and Scarlett will STILL be a couple in the comics 25 years from now, and one day their story WILL be realized onscreen by someone who realizes that a romace with a mute character is perfectly capable of being done.
wow. you people are complaining about a sensible decision. I understand your nostalgia but seriously things change, life changes. Learn to live with it because there's nothing you can do to stop it, unless of course you want to continue complaining.
Sensible decision? Are you serious? This has nothing to do with things changing or life changing, this has to do with corporate laziness! Stop with the sanctimonious garbage and don't talk about things you know nothing about. There are things that stand the test of time becasse they fit right: Superman/Lois Lane; Batman/Catwoman; and yes we can stop it if it threatens to hurt their box-office! If Snake Eyes could talk they would never try to put Scarlett with Ripcord, Duke or anyone else!
It's not a sensible decision, it's a stupid one! You don't all of a sudden decide that maybe Juliet should be with Paris instead of Romeo. The filmakers are using a lame, cop-out excuse that because Snake Eyes can't talk that his romance with Scarlett is "difficult", which is crap! Of course it can be done, they just don't want to do it because they're lazy, not sensible! Snake Eyes and Scarlett will always be perfect. It's not about nostalgia, it's about not trying to fix what isn't broken.
To all you losers giving me thumbs down, let me say this -- you stand by your 'ships, no matter what!
Snake eyes and Scarlett have always been the G.I. JOE romantic couple, and they always will be, even 100 years from now, no matter how much damage those Hasbro jerks try to inflict on them! Putting Scarlett with Duke or Ripcord will be tossed aside and forgotten as a bad idea, like Joel Schumacher putting nipples on the Batsuit!
@rallygsc That's true, but it all depends on who does the adapting. It took 10 years to go from the awful 'Batman & Robin,' to the awesome 'Batman Begins' and 'The Dark Knight.' If Hollywood choses the right people, comic books can be made into great movies. If not, well..........
@44excalibur hollywood should not be allowed to make such trash of so many good franchises like they do....but then again its all about the MONEY no matter what idiot will tell you on YouTube about necessary change and different perspectives.. if they want that then make that movie an then instead not give it title of a well established franchise
I hate the fact that the camera cant keep still on any person and i hate comic/game to movies with lameass cast and story that spoils the whole magic of the original product. I dont know why they made those new spiderman and fantastic four movies with trendy cast that spoiled the original characters
well wat do yall nerdy fans expect? they are doing something new. if they did exactly wat was in the comics than you would already kno the whole movie and u would see wat is coming. its the same with the batman movies. joker didnt get his mouth cut open in the comics, he fell in acid. but they obviously didnt put that in the movie now did they?
All we expect is that the Snake Eyes/Scarlett romance from the comics is respected, and for Hollywood to stop breaking them up and putting her with Duke in the cartoons, and now Ripcord in the movie just because Snake Eyes can't talk. You wouldn't break up Superman and Lois Lane would you?(Bryan Singer, this means YOU!) There's a reason why Snake Eyes and Scarlett are one of the most popular couples in comics, and the filmakers should remember that!
In a movie adaptation, its a historical fact that the fans are the ones that really know if a movie sucks, and this did. The movie pissed on decades of character history, too bad G.I. Joe's comeback was better in the comics, now its all shit.
I understand there was no Shipwreck and that the original plan was to get The Rock to play the roll? No disrespect to The Rock but Hey there ARE those of us who ARE real life Active Duty that CAN do the Job. I am U.S. Navy and Would be willing to play the part and hey Get Scarlett in the end! >:D I know I'm going on a thin limb here but hey! Gotta try!
the movie was average. way too much fake stuff. way too little military looking stuff. making cobra commander breathe like vader at the end was lame. costumes were not that good, not accurate.
Agreed that Sienna is hotter with black hair, but as for the movie, I thought it was good.
Per the Joe story line, it wasn't even close I've come to conclude, but for anyone looking for a non-realistic (it's GI Joe afterall) summer blockbuster it was great. I mean, was anything practical? No. But was it entertaining in that far fetched sort of way? Sure.
This comment has received too many negative votesshow
u know what was the most stupid thing. the rex dude (the baroness's brother) was the darth vader guy. also, the president was killed and the bad guy took his place. i mean wat was up with the ending. it turns out all that guy wanted to do was just become president. i mean how stupid is that.
To me what was weard, as I grew up to the cartoon, that baroness was dukes old lover?? That kinda did not make snece to me at all, it was not like that in the cartoon at all
I dont know, i wonder what they could possibly think off for them breaking up( scarlett adn ripcord ) cause in the 1st movie they were really tied to one another
How about the fact that they just don't fit together and that Snake Eyes/Scarlett are the canon couple of the comic book? Besides, people have told me that she was just as tied to Snake Eyes, and that her and Ripcord never went beyond flirting. Fans know that Snake Eyes/Scarlett pretty much define each other, and slitting them up diminishes both characters. I've heard that they're planning a cliched love triangle thing, and if they're smart, she'll end up with Snake Eyes like she's supposed to.
brunette * Variant(s): or bru·nette \brü-ˈnet\ * Function: noun * Date: circa 1539

There's a reason why Snake Eyes and Scarlett are one of the most popular couples in comics, and the filmakers should remember that!

Gotta try!

sienna looks better with black hair
the movie was average. way too much fake stuff. way too little military looking stuff. making cobra commander breathe like vader at the end was lame. costumes were not that good, not accurate.
nonetheless i had to see it anyways.

Sure.

This comment has received too many negative votes show
u know what was the most stupid thing. the rex dude (the baroness's brother) was the darth vader guy. also, the president was killed and the bad guy took his place. i mean wat was up with the ending. it turns out all that guy wanted to do was just become president. i mean how stupid is that.

good job. Some people might have not seen it yet and now you spoiled it, kind of.

Where did you pick up the idea that the Baroness was a brunette? she's ALWAYS had black hair, in the comics, toys, and cartoons.

To me what was weard, as I grew up to the cartoon, that baroness was dukes old lover?? That kinda did not make snece to me at all, it was not like that in the cartoon at all
pbrskater26 2 years ago
In the comics, Snake Eyes and Scarlett are supposed to be lovers. The movie messed that up too.
44excalibur 2 years ago
yeah, they directed the love to scarlett and ripcord
Etoinks 2 years ago
They can always make up for it in the sequel by putting her back with Snake Eyes, especially after the fans raise hell because of this movie. :)
44excalibur 2 years ago
I dont know, i wonder what they could possibly think off for them breaking up( scarlett adn ripcord ) cause in the 1st movie they were really tied to one another
Etoinks 2 years ago
How about the fact that they just don't fit together and that Snake Eyes/Scarlett are the canon couple of the comic book? Besides, people have told me that she was just as tied to Snake Eyes, and that her and Ripcord never went beyond flirting. Fans know that Snake Eyes/Scarlett pretty much define each other, and slitting them up diminishes both characters. I've heard that they're planning a cliched love triangle thing, and if they're smart, she'll end up with Snake Eyes like she's supposed to.
44excalibur 2 years ago
yeah lets hope(: And i hope snake eyes starts talking in the next movie, since he already avenged his master.

i cant belive they picked these two to play scarlett and the baroness,
they dont even stick to their haircolor from the movie, baroness is brunette not blonde, scarlett is redhead not brunette,
couldnt they find a true redhead and brunette, these cunts, suck, they are both not that great,
terrible actors, i hope they change they hire new girls to play scarlett and baroness in part 2
