  • @soundandthefury8- thank god u know the truth of this movie

  • SHUT UP AND ENJOY THE MOVIE

  • I can't believe Faulkner would have approved any such melodramatic Hollywood junk as this movie as representing one of his works.

  • this is so typical.. adapting such a complex novel into movie romance , but i like it haha

  • Quentin: Wot will u spend it on?

    Jason: On u...swoon

  • William Faulkner might have been very talented but the movie is much better, thank you for posting it, i just wish i could buy it.

  • I tried to read the book and I just couldn't follow the story line. I am hoping the movie is better.

  • Thank YOU soooooooo much for uploading this movie! I wanted to watch it so badly and then found you!! thanks again!!

  • Great movie! Thanks for sharing the upload. I have always been a fan of JoAnn Woodward and Yul Brynner. I really enjoyed viewing this old movie.

  • thank you so much for posting this. i really enjoyed it! Yul is brilliant, and so is Joanne. thanks!

  • there's probably a mall or a new freeway.....maybe condos where they're walking now... i love those kind of places where you can kinda meander around, places that have they're own character. yeah, i know... it's a movie set, but look at the general back drops back then, i remember.. oh yes i remember.

  • I liked this film, very much.

  • I'm surely glad that they don't make any more films with so much grandiose, clueless music in them.

  • good point hahaha

  • I believe Jason knows that Quenton has finally grown up & matured & she will nowvhelp restore the good name of the family and he can get on with his life. All his hard work has been successful.

I don't see romance, I see a new understanding between them but no romance.

I think Jason has seen Quenton as the last opportunity for the family to amount to something again. I LOVE THIS FILM! I believe it is much deeper than most see it.

Thanks so much, soundandfury8, for posting it!

  • The first time I have ever seen Yul Brynner with hair!

  • he was as sexy as ever !

  • So this whole movie is only the Jason section of the book? Quentin's suicide isn't in it?

  • Thanks a lot for providing that

  • 4:08 to 4:15...they never say "I love u" directly to each other but it indicates in their affectionate stare. See how sweetly Quentin smiles, and look at Jason's expression^^(Yul's got exquisitely beautiful eyes)...That's what romance in film art should be.

  • so what happens in the book? He is not really her blood related uncle, is that how it is in the book too? You rather get the idea that they are attracted to each other here.

  • In the book, Jason is indeed the blood relative (uncle) of Miss Quentin, brother of Quentin, Benjy, and Caddie. In the book, they do not kiss, and Miss Quentin is successful in running away with the carnival boy--Jason chases after them but does not ultimately find them. They are also successful with stealing Jason's (partly Miss Quentin's) money. That's the conclusion of the section from which the film is based. There are three other sections of the book, though.

  • i read the book a loooooong time ago so please tell me why jason hates her so much

  • It's pretty much that he just hates everyone. It's not really her in particular--he hates his mother, he hates Dilsey, he hates Benjy, he hates Caddy, etc.

Personally I think he's bitter because he feels that he sort of got the short end of the stick in his family--Quentin was the oldest and smartest and got to go to Harvard; Caddy was the only girl and got married young; Benjy is the youngest and is also retarded. Stick Jason in there as the second youngest and he sort of becomes a Jan Brady.

  • Sorry, but some of you haven't a clue. Jason in this movie is a hero. He is the one who holds the family together. He is intent on bringing them from off their knees and saving them. Especially young Quentin, whom he loves. But the movie bears little resemblance to the book. Like Hollywood always does, they don't care how much they mess up an author's work. I like the movie, though, because of Yul Brynner.

  • @pegcage i agree with you , but i dont see how everyone cant see hes inlove with her, i dont think he meant to fall inlove with her, he just wanted her to survive her family and scandelous birth, but like her, no one really loves him either, they just use him to take care of them.

  • @soundandfury8 Doesn't seem to the that Jason hates anyone. He is tough, serious, even appear to be mean but look at what he is tasked with? And he lives up to his responsibility. He cares about those people and they are a miserable, difficult bunch he has to to deal with.

  • @ccrich100 I agree I don't think he hates them if he did he would wash his hands of the whole bunch. I feel sorry for Quinten , and I feel sorry for Jason, but I feel the sorriest for the poor housekeeper!!! She has to deal with them all. If the watcher pays attention, Jason is not affectionate with Quinten , I do think he 's inlove with her but he just wanted her to be better then the rest of her family.

  • in the book he is her blood related uncle and he hates her in the novel

    Here he loves her

  • They're not blood-relatives in the film so it's not incest...^^wise adaptation

  • I have finally got to see this movie again after more than thirty years. I never knew why no one could ever find it or why it was never available. But I have been looking all this time and I enjoyed every minute of it. Thank you for posting this and I'm glad I took a chance that something might be on You Tube.

  • yul brynner is so gorgeous as Jason

  • thx very much, but do u have the kissing scene? part 11?

  • Yes, pt. 11 is working fine for me. For some reason YouTube won't let me post the link for it but it's up.

  • Thank You. I read the S&F many times - and I liked the movie too. Faulkner is master of writing art and in his honer I watched all 13 parts - Thanks again. (Incidentally I am an Iranian in love for anything by Faulkner).
