@djwelbaum thats what made me find this on youtube. This song randomly popped into my head and when i got to his part i was like 'ok i gotta find this on youtube' love that part lol
@lavvy2585 The woman you see is not the singer. It was dubbed. Michelle Weeks, who plays Ronnette (one of the three do wop girls) did the opening. She IS great.
The first time I heard this, it brought me to tears. It's become not only my favorite song from the musical/movie, but one of my favorite songs EVER. I sing it all the time, and listen to it in the car.
The man @ 2:00 is my FAVORITE. :P He has 3 words to sing, and he packs more emotion into those 3 words than some actors do in entire performances! XD
The guy at 2:00 is definatley fustrated his vocal talent only got him 3 words in the song, abd the boy who appears at 4:01 looks like he's possesed by the devil
This is probablye the best song from the musical, followed by the intro, dentist song and don't feed the plants.
After hearing this wonderful and tragic song, I don't know how you guys would prefer an ending where everyone dies (just to be darker and edgier?). I've actually only seen the musical (not the movie) and I didn't like the ending.
Well, the movie was edited a bit to make it lighter. The original version was a bit darker and the dark ending was hinted at.
I normally like darker endings, but sometimes they don't work. Rick Moranis is too likable in this to justify it. Another example of a dark ending that doesn't work is Clerks. It originally ended with the main character being murdered in a robbery. Which would have ruined the entire movie.
I can listen to Bertice Reading's, the old woman in the beginning, part over and over...her other recordings don't sound the same though...but I love this part she sings.
@misstique08 thank you for posting that!!!!! i've been searching for a while now for that woman(bertice readings)!!! her voice is amazing and i heard her other songs but they dont really catch my ear. do u know if she sings slower, more soulful, songs like this???? every song i saw was fast and upbeat =(
@sirfluffy91 She was born 1933...She died june 8, 1991. ...The other songs don't catch my ear either...only other one I can endure a little bit is called "lean on me"...she was younger when she sang part of this song "skid row"
Can't get this song out of my head! I start singing this song, then my friends hear me and feel compelled by some unseen force to seen with me. Then we're singing it all day, then all week, and all month...
Only problem with this recording is the fact that it isnt the one from the movie...and if it is you got a hold of a video with this song in a different key lol if you listen carefully the voices don't sound quite the same(at least I think so)...other than that the video is fine...there's a version that sounds right posted by LittleShop3824

In school we did a theatre workshop to perform this play and I (I´m playing seymour) stayed in a room with orin and the masochist and they stayed up half the night singing "OH! I started life as an orphan, child on the street, here on SKID ROAD!!! yes they turned skid row into skid road and although it drove the whole theatre group crazy that night at 4 in the morning the skid road became our insider joke within 1 day xDD
downtown theres no rules for us downtown cause its dangerous downtown where the rainbows just a no show when you live downtown where the sun dont shine downtown past the bottom line downtown go ask any wino he'll know downtown downtown downtown skid row!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
every time I see that actor all I can think of him as is a nerd, from Ghostbusters or honey I shrunk the kids. It's unusual that he doesn't play a brianeac. I love him, because I'm a nerd too, so I can totally relate to him. It's odd to see him in a diffrent role entirely.
When I was young I had the VHS and rewound this song soo much that I ruined the tape lol but I have to tell you all something about the Black dude with the soulful voice 2,00. its not actually his voice!!
