How interesting that the brac player puts his chin on the side of the instrument instead of the top.

It's quite typical. A traditional way of holding the violin/brac by hun. folk musicians. The violinist holds his violin the same way in eg. Muzsikás LIVE 008. - Allegro Barbaro (that one is esp. interesting because you can hear the Bartók remake and the original folk song).
