Split stance is pure rookie unloaded bar stuff only. Anyway, her form is not bad here, not for teaching beginners. Her Dead Lift video is shit and should be shunned. So this is good advice to get a start. If you really want a good YT video on squatting I recommend the "so you think you can squat" videos. They're much better.
errrmmmmm.....full squat? Sorry, you don't fulfill that. She is 'sitting back in the chair' waaay too early. This girl doesn't know much about technique. I'll bet she would blow well though eh?
she is doing a weird powerlifting/oly squat hybrid. If she is going to focus on sitting back and barely going parallel she should have the bar lower on her upper back and probably feet a bit wider. It's also not a full squat her ROM is quite lacking.
Don't forget to keep you knees pushed out to the sides! If your knees bow inwards it puts a lot of shearing force on your knee joint and causes a lot of pain an injuries. It's the main reason people say squatting is bad for you.
I'm just beginning squats (I'm a girl) and when I squat I feel like I'm going to fall over backwards. Does anyone know if it's okay to have your feet slightly wider than your shoulders as I feel more stable that way?
Not a full squat, not even a parallel squat... And I wouldn't put too much credence in her "license"; with a few hundred bucks and a spare weekend, almost anyone can become a "certified" or "licensed" personal trainer... Bad training advice is bad training advice, irrespective of whether or not the person giving is "licensed" to give it....
@Az260790UK I think it's better to dump the weight off of your back instead of worrying about the bar staying on your back if you fall forward and pinning you down to the floor.
@Az260790UK I think it's better to dump the weight off of your back instead of worrying about the bar staying on your back if you fall forward and pinning you down to the floor.
personally i don't tell people to look up, I tell them to keep their head where they feel the most comfortable, because too many a times i find a lot of people hyper extend their backs in an effort to keep their chest high and head up, this back hyper extension in turns causes the abs to relax and placing the lumbar spine in a compromising position.
Also, I don't care if she has another video of "Deep Squats". This video should not be up, because this type of squat promotes injury, particularly to the knees. I have not seen the other video, but even if it is proper form, that doesn't excuse having this one with improper form, unless she was demonstrating what not to do. But to those who want to follow this advice, follow on, sheep.
Another thing that I find very sad and disturbing here. All the comments from people bashing the other posters that are merely pointing out the obvious flaws with this video. The main argument? She is certified! You can get certified online without ever touching a bar. Just because someone is professional doesn't mean you shouldn't question their word and do some research for yourself. Having a degree does not mean you are automatically smarter than someone who doesn't.
Horrrrrrrrible instruction. Those are half squats at best. This is a good way to cause knee damage. When people do half squats, their body tricks them into thinking they can handle more weight than they should. Plus when you stop half way through the squatting motion, all the load goes directly to the pivot point... Your knees! Go all the way down! That way the weight is smootly transferred from your quads to your hamstrings, glutes, and calves. Also you shouldn't look up, this causes unnecessa
@Howie262 It's sarcasm, bud. She may have a certificate on her wall saying she's a personal trainer, but she certainly isn't qualified to be teaching anyone how to do barbell exercises based on her series of videos.
@Howie262 There is plenty of videos in here that shows girls squatting an amount of weigth that you probably couldn't handle with a full range of motion.
@JLascek Somebody made the point that she's a "professional" (she may have made the point). It's comical. Especially with the line of logic that if she completes a weekend certification -- or holds any certification for that matter -- that she some how is a "professional" that should be respected because she's "certified".
She forgot to mention to keep your lumbar spine tight at all times aswell as the abs, also her hips are going too far back and I don't like the bar position, it should be across below the traps, elbows up behind your back high enough so your shoulders make a kind of shelf for the bar, and the chest should always be up, but you should concentrate on hip drive and not your chest pushing yourself back up, as she was doing because it causes the lumbar spine to become loose and puts pressure on back.
@def1l3r Some people can't go any lower due to improper flexibility in the hip, which in turn leads to rounding of the spine. There are a lot of people I see who go below parallel but don't have the proper mobility, stability, and flexibility to execute it properly, which does more damage than good.
average form. split stance unracking? lol try that with 500lbs on ur back
her arms are lose not even pulling the bar down into her traps. her actual squat movement is average too. a lot i could pick apart but it doesn't look horrible.
@soseg You got that right. When she talked about split stance un-racking my first thought was that she has never squatted heavy. A spilt stance approach for un-racking the bar in a squat is the absolute WORST way to un-rack a barbell. You will lose balance....but only one time, because when you fall you will likely die, or be so horrifically injured you will never squat again. You have to learn how to be able to step back with a bar loaded with some weight on it, and that needs to be taught.
She has nice form, but the title of the video is misinforming. A "full squat" to me is an olympic squat, and this isn't. But if you wanna go parallel this is the way to go. But you do think you'll see something different when you see the title
lets clear this up. there lowbar and highbar squats. she is doing highbar squats. both are perfectly fine, the lowbar is better for your back at higher weights. people who can PROPERLY squat higher weight dont watch these vids for info, so it really dosent matter.
second, she is reaching almost parallel, which is decent and nothing to complain about. breaking parallel is ideal, however her form is fine and will work.
garuntee 90% of the people criticizing cant squat properly.
They aren't deep squats. She isn't even breaching the parallel level. If you really want good videos on squat advice, search "Mark Rippetoe" or Squat Rx on youtube.
men are so stupid, any of you women out there know a man who "doesnt think he knows it all??? see her video for deep squats you dummies! LOL she is perfect in form, theres a reason she is an expert you morons..go back to wanking...LOL
This doesnt look deep enough. I did squats like this for months and made no progress. Started doing proper deep squats and have been getting some good results so far.
Not low enough. Most powerlifting competitions won't consider your squat successful unless your hamstrings touch your calves and you go below parallel. It's bad for your knees to do less than a full squat with heavy weight, but doing a full squat with heavy weight can actually improve your knees, and full range of motion will improve flexibility (I rarely stretch and I can kick over my head without leaning or bending, at 5'10, 260lbs, just from full ROM).
seriously sinfuldavy0 i agree with u man. Ahkbar can u do better? lets se a video of u doin it and no u dont go below parallel or else u are goin to put alot of stress on ur knees which isnt good at all. The way it is taught in the video is how u properly do it and thats how i was taught.
Stop with the stupid comments. She is demonstrating how to do squats and she is doing it well, in my opinion.. ugh.. People are stupid, they go to the gym a few times and all of a sudden think they are all fitness experts, she has a license for a reason. She earned it.
@rotas5s5 yea when your shoulders aren't that big it's hard to do some sort of squat without padding, cause it hurts your shoulders, I think she does it this way because maybe it doesn't hurt. I always put on a thick jacket for this, which sounds funny, but it gives me a bit of padding when having bar on shoulders.
@juniorme87 She probably took a weekend personal trainer course your chump. She didn't even do a full squat. Just like every other personal trainer IF YOUR KNEES GO OVER YOUR TOES, YOU WILL DIE!!!!
@juniorme87 while i agree with everything you say, i must say that a lot of people here do have good reason to be skeptical and too many times a times I have found incompetent personal "trainers" in a lot of big fancy gyms.
